There was a thread back in 2016 regarding getting VM activity events logged in Prism (PE or PC).  Events such as powering on and off a VM should be displayed in PE or PC so we can try to track down when a reboot may have occurred easily.  This has been a core VMware vCenter function for ages, but is glaringly absent in Prism for AHV. My company is in the middle of the AHV conversion right now, and my teammates are asking me how to find out about these events.  I don’t really like the idea of giving untrained folks access to the “nutanix” account on the CVM to look at acropolis.log.   In the 2016 thread, someone said enhancements are coming to Prism.  Are they still coming?

i want to migrate my phyical linux server to Nutanix. is there any native nutanix tool to prform this activity?

I want to test Microsegmentation on prism central, but "AHV Free Memory Minimum 1GB for each Prism Central VM" showed up. And I can't enable Enable Microsegmentation check box. 20gb memory assigned to prism central. What was the problem ?    

I’m running PC Scaleout (5.16.1.2) on ESXi and need to migrate all 3 nodes to a new datacenter cluster and datastore (same vcenter). Is there a recommended process for this or can I simply power down one of the 3 nodes, migrate it, power it up and wait for all cluster services to start, and then move on to the next one? 

Is there a cli command that will tell me which VMs do NOT have NGT installed? Is there a command that will show me CD-ROM status for all VMs? (e.g. No drive available, or drive not empty) I know about ncc health_checks ngt_checks ngt_installer_version_check Thanks  

Hello guys, currently we have converged infrastructure with Cisco UCS, netapp storage and virtualization with VMware , now we want to make this our DR and want to build primary DC with Nutanix HCI, so my question is can Nutanix AHV can replicate to converged DR site? Thanks....

How To enable nested virtualization on AHV?

After upgrading to the latest Prism Central, AOS, and AHV versions, I wanted to check out the storage QoS options. But after looking all over, I could not find where to do this. I asked one of my fellow Nutanix adminstrators who has the same access as I do to the same resources and he showed me where the settings can be configured. However, I don’t have this option (and a few others) when logged in with my account. Not even with the Prism Admin account. I’ve tried different browsers, clearing browser cache, different computers. Nothing. Any ideas why I can’t see these options?

Anyone have any insights to share about using the filter option in the /alerts/list API method in Prism Central? Here is that method in the documentation: https://www.nutanix.dev/reference/prism_central/v3/api/alerts/postalertslist/ It looks like there isn’t much information available about the filter option. I have found a (very) little bit of information online about FIQL, but I have no idea what field names are available for alerts in Prism Central.

When creating a vm there is a scripting section that has the option to select a file from an ADSF Path.  How can I put files to an ADSF location?

I hope this is an easy question.  Am I allowed to increase the VCPU and memory resources on the Move VM/Docker without issues?  I know hot-plug is disabled, so it’s in the reboot-world.  I found that we are pegging the CPUs out when we are queueing migrations, so I want to try to get some more throughput on it to take advantage of our 25Gb infrastructure. My migration team is doing a good job trying to push as many VM’s through Move to stage reboots after-hours.  I’ve noticed that replication slows way down when we have about 15-20 VM’s waiting for cutover.  I have checked the load on the Move VM and increased the amount of CPUs.  Replication goes well (25Gbit network), but now we only have 2 seed streams going with 19 waiting to cutover.  I have 4 other VM’s that are in the “seeding data” phase, but haven’t started their copies.  Is this a bottleneck within the Move postgres database? Any ideas on how I can get more VM’s copying in parallel? Thanks,

Hi there, I have many PDs and inside these PDs I have many VMs. I want to be able to run NCLI (or the like) to unprotect VM’s using a wildcard if possible. Example: ncli pd unprotect name=ProtectionDomain vm_name=VM* Anyone have an idea on how to do this to unprotect machines by wildcard to remove a mass amount at once?

I am testing Postman for API calls and one of the errors I am getting is 502 - Oops Server Error, which is related to the Apache portion. Question is, which log contains this? I’ve checked all the logs in ~/data/logs/ and can’t find that response. 

Hello Team, How we will configure Storage only Block’s? Do we need to follow the same foundation procedure?  If that’s the case we will have two CVM’s ( CVM and FSVM). can someone please guide me how NX Storage block will configure?  

Hi, A customer moved his Nutanix Cluster (with Hyper-V) from a DC to another, after powering the Nodes up, the IPs of all Hyper-V host and CMs released, I logged it locally to Hyper-V hosts and configure the internal IP (192.168.5.1/28) and the external IP same like before shutting the cluster down. I repeated the previous step with CVMs, I went through cd/etc/sysconfigs/ and edit network-scripts file and added the the external IP in the eth0 and the internal one (192.168.5.2/28) in eth1. Now Hyper-V FC is working fine but cannot start VMs due to the Nutanix cluster issue, whenever I tried to start cluster from any CVM, I get this message “WARNING genesis_utils.py:1211 Failed to reach a node where Genesis is up. Retrying” Is there any way to fix this issue or to repair cluster configuration without disrupting existing data? Thanks in advance

We have several AHV clusters across the WANscape all managed from Prism Central. On one AHV cluster, I created a Windows Server 2016 and a Windows Server 2019 VM from CD ISOs, patched and tweaked and these are our “Golden Images”.  I clone those and run sysprep and those are what I make new VMs from. Now I have two problems: 1.) in each cluster we have an RF2 container and an RF3 container so these VMs are bound to one or the other, and 2.) how do I get these to other clusters? To address the differing containers, I end up using the image service (create image of the disks and create new VM from those disks).  But now I’m wasting storage because I’m keeping copies of the same VM on two different containers. To address the differing clusters, I was thinking about setting up Protection Domains and letting Nutanix replicate them to each cluster.  They would only get updated once or twice per month for Windows patches.  Doing it this way would allow me to control replication schedule a

Hi all, A newbie question. It seems I still have an old crash dump directory on one of my AHV hosts. A ls -lahtr /var/crash shows the single directory from back in April. At the time the issue was resolved, and the faulty DIMM that was causing the issue was replaced. That said, clearly the dump file was not removed. In terms of cleaning this up, is it OK to delete the dump directory within the /var/crash directory and then rerun the ncc health check. Or is there a better method for clearing crash dumps from Nutanix clusters. Many thanks, Rob

Please answer the below questions : When one cvm goes down(in a 10 node cluster with RF3) for 20 mints, then Guest VM’s new write and read IO would be served by anther's CVM and all these will be traveling across 10 g network. A : Will those new IOs served from local copy via another CVM or IOs will be served from the replica copy B: Will cluster starts to build a new replica to accommodate the missing copy or RF3   Ques 2 - When new Write IO request comes, first it will write the data on Oplog then synchronously send to other CVM’s Oplog. All host in clusters having 2 SSD and 6 HDDs. Will Write IO process by both SSD in every host or only one SSD is hsving Oplog partition active at the same time ?  I think there is only one oplog per CVM/host whether the host is aving all flash drive or 2 SSD and remaining HDD. But I am not sure about this statement, Please clarify..

Is it possible to recover data from an overwritten entity - does the overwritten VM or its storage still exist anywhere? I'm asking as I recovered a VM from a backup but realised in hindsight that the logs from the VM in its failed state would be useful for diagnosing the issue. Thanks in advance.

How can i do this with API V3? I can add user to a Project, but i can’t set the Role.. When i check trought the Web Interface, i see the user without role. Thanks!

Hi, everyone I’m trying to use LCM to update firmware of host machines on my cluster. It all went well until the post action phase. Error message said: ‘Operation failed. Reason: LCM failed performing action reboot_from_phoenix in phase PostActions on ip address xx’. I searched the KB and found KB9177，but it’s about ‘Mixed Hypervisor cluster‘, my cluster uses solely AHV so it doesn’t applied. Anyway I still tried to follow the KB9177’s suggestion and upgraded my cluster’s foundation to 4.5.3 and retried the LCM firmware update process on another host but still got the same ‘ LCM failed performing action reboot_from_phoenix’ error. I used the workaround provided in that KB to make the affected two hosts’ CVM out of maintenance mode. It works and the cluster is back to normal. Then I logged on to the affected hosts’ IMM and found out that actually the primary IMM2 firmware has already been updated by the LCM( the backup IMM2 firmware is not upgraded), and when I go to the LCM section

Hello. I faced with limitation of number VMs in API reply. There is option “length” which can be added to request, but max value is 500 (I got it into experiments). We have around 1000 VMs in our environment. Is there solution?
