Hi Experts! We are planning a migration from an existing AHV cluster (AOS 6.x) to a new AHV cluster running AOS 7.5.1, and we need to migrate our Active Directory Domain Controllers. We are aware that the official Move documentation states that DC migration is "not recommended but can be performed with some limitations", and that AOS 6.7+ supports VM Generation ID to reduce USN rollback risks. We have a few questions :Has anyone successfully migrated Domain Controllers using Nutanix Move in an AHV-to-AHV scenario on AOS 6.7 or higher ?Did you experience any USN rollback, replication issues, or post-migration AD inconsistencies ?Any specific pre/post-migration checks you would recommend for this use case ?Constraint: We need to keep the same IP addresses for our DCs after migrationThanks in advance
I have setup an instance of Move and am able to login with the default username of nutanix along with the password I created to log into the web portal of Move. However when trying the same credentials in the CLI under “move login” the creds return invalid. I have also tried the default “admin // nutanix/4u” to no avail.Am I missing something?
We are currently Migrating over our servers using move and now our patch management system is reporting issues with the current version of VirtIO I can see that move is still using 1.2.4.6 is there a way to update this.
I am trying to install ubuntu 24.04 and Almalinux 8.10 . in Both case console show “Press F2 to EFI Boot manager”. I tried to press F2 but not success. I am set UEFI boot. Help me Please.
Hello Nutanix community,I'm working on a cluster refresh project and need some confirmation on a compatibility issue related to API changes in AOS 7.3. The Details Source Cluster (Old): AOS 6.5.6.1 (PE-Only, older G6 hardware, EOL soon). Target Cluster (New): AOS 7.3.1 (New hardware, registered to Prism Central 7.3.1). Migration Method: Nutanix Move (recommended tool). Goal: Migrate all VMs from the old cluster to the new one and retire the old hardware. The Specific Concern: KB-19356 I found Nutanix KB-19356 which states that the V3 VMs PUT API is deprecated at the Prism Element (PE) level in AOS 7.3, which impacts Nutanix Move's ability to apply post-migration features like NGT, CPU Passthrough, etc., when PE is used as the target. My KB-19356 Summary:"The V3 VMs PUT API is deprecated on PE in AOS 7.3. This affects Move's ability to configure features like NGT/CPU Passthrough post-migration if PE is used as the target." My Proposed Strategy & Question Since my target clust
Hi all Nutanix experts, we're scheduled to migrate our infrastructure from VMware to Nutanix in two weeks. We're going to set up two Nutanix clusters (Production and DR) with full replication. We use a virtual Windows Server 2022 as our current domain controller. We also have a backup domain controller (virtual server). According to some of the Nutanix documentation, migrating the domain controller using Move could cause issues. Has any of you had a similar situation? If I don't want to set up a domain controller on a physical server, what's the solution for this issue?
Hi, I have tried API Automation for Move and here is something that I am stuck for Linux based VMs that use SSH Key(PEM) to authenticate to root user. For the POST API for Preparing the Environment /move/v2/plans/{id}/prepare, I use the payload: payload = { "APIVersion": "2.2.0", "Spec": { "CommonCredentials": { }, "GuestPrepMode": "auto", "RunInBackground": True, "VMs": [ { "PemFile": credentials["lpemfile"], "Password": "", "UserName": "root", "UUID": self.vm_details["uuid"], "VMId": self.vm_details["vm_id"] } ] }, "Type": "VM" }The value for lpemfile is "/home/user123/move/linuxauth.pem".The PEM file itself is val
Anyone is having older version of KB‑18539. The latest version is updated on 7th July 2025. But i need older version. I am using Move 5.1 i am getting error “Azure operation 'Authorization' failed. Hello,What is the best practice to migrate a VM with 60 TB using RDM from esxi to AHV? Is it possible to map the RDM to Nutanix Cluster or to convert the RDM?
I am using Nutanix Move version 5.5.3 to migrate a Rocky Linux 8.8 VM running on ESXi to AOS 7.0. Although I have entered the correct guest OS username and password, the migration fails at the "Prepare Source VM" step without showing any specific error code—just a message like:“Could not authenticate to guest. Error: ServerFaultCode: Failed to authenticate with the guest operating system using the supplied credentials..”To troubleshoot, I verified the credentials, ensured VMware Tools is installed and running, and also tried with a Rocky Linux 8.10 VM, but the exact same issue occurred.Could you please advise what else I should check or configure?
Hi,Is there an API or command line for both configuring the Move applaince (eg environments) and the migrations themselves?Doesn’t seem to be anything obvious other than the “move deployer” which is only the initial VM deployment. ThanksRay
I’m running Nutanix CE and need Move to migrate from ESXi—how can I download it without a serial?
Hello everyone,I am currently facing an issue and need assistance. I am unable to locate and download VDDK 6.0.3, which is required for Nutanix Move to Upload and migrate VMs from vSphere ESXi 5.1.I have already checked the VMware (Broadcom) website, but the minimum version available for download is VDDK 6.7.If anyone has the VDDK 6.0.3 file saved or knows an alternative source for obtaining it, I would greatly appreciate it if you could share it with me.
We are starting to migrate from ESXi to AHV, using the MOVE application. And as the title says, all the VMs are stuck on 1280x1024 resolution when they come up on AHV. I’ve tried the “Preferred Resolution” change mentioned hereDisplay resolution in Windows Server 2016 (AHV-VM) stuck to 1280x1024 | Nutanix CommunityI change the Preferred resolution from “<Unset>” to “1920x1080”, but as soon as I exit and boot into Windows, it goes back to 1280x1024 and won’t change. Some posts mention not having Guest Tools installed before the MOVE, but that made no difference for us. I’m stuck at the same resolution, regardless of whether Guest Tools was installed prior to MOVE or not. Nor does the method of access - launch console or RDP, the VM resolution is hard coded to this annoyingly small (by 21st century standards) resolution. And all my VMs are UEFI, which is pretty much the default. And obviously that can’t be changed, without deleting the whole VM.Is there any workaround or resolution
A client has requested to migrate a Windows Server VM (Domain Controller) installed in a VMWare ESXi cluster to the Nutanix cluster with AHV. I have only migrated Windows and Linux VMs with Nutanix Move, in this case I do not know if it is advisable to do the migration. I have not found any information on this matter. I would appreciate if you could tell me if it is possible to migrate the Domain Controller without any problems or if it is advisable to create a new VM configured as a Domain Controller in Nutanix. If it is possible to do the task with Nutanix Move, how should I do it? Thank you.
We have a customer with Windows VM and running Symantec Anti Virus in it, we are not able to migrate those VMs to AHV using Move tool as it gives an Access Denied Error. We are able to RDP into the Server with the CredentialsWe have disabled UACEnabled Local Admin credentialsInstalled VirtIO DriversAny suggestions or recommendations would be helpful
Trying to migrate a Server 2008 R2 server, and when I try to do a manual migration and run the script on the server, its saying its not running a supported OS. Support is trying to help, but we really aren’t getting anywhere, and I’m running up against a hard deadline to get this server migrated.
It likes it is not supported with the tool MOVE. Machine is migrated but never boot as hdd is never found. Anybody checked and got a solution as Nutanix Support can not? Thanks in advance!
Hi there, I am trying to create a Windows 10/11 VM in the CE and while I try to boot the VM it never goes ahead of the press F2 to boot into EFI boot manager, I would appreciate your support with my issue Thanks :)
