Hi Team,I am trying to set up a small Nutanix lab environment on VMware ESXi for learning and testing Prism Central integration. However, I do not have access to the Nutanix Support Portal, so I am unable to download the Prism Central OVA file.I checked multiple links but they all redirect to the support portal login page.Is there any:Community / trial download for Prism Central OVA (ESXi format), or Alternative way to obtain a POC/evaluation copy for lab use?I am not using this for production, only for learning and testing.Any guidance would be appreciated.Thank you.
We recently enabled Intelligent Operations. We now have a critical alert saying that “Small Prism Central does not support currently enabled services. Please scale up PC to Large variant.” Before I pull the trigger and scale up to ‘Large’, I need to know if that has any effect on our licensing costs. We are a new Nutanix user (April). Our current licensing is good until Aug 2030.
Hello everyone,I currently have an AOS Pro license and am planning to convert it to NCI Pro. In my environment, I am already using Prism Central, and I understand that Prism Central is required as part of the conversion process. However, I would like to clarify the potential impact if I do not convert the license to NCI Pro before the current AOS Pro license expires.Specifically:Will there be any service disruption or limitation on cluster operations? What features will be affected or disabled after the license expires? Will Prism Central functionality be impacted in any way? Is there any grace period or compliance warning before enforcement?I would appreciate any insights or official references regarding this scenario.
Greetings. We recently inherited a site that has an active subscription of EUC Ultimate licenses. However, after deploying Prism Central and applying the license, Intelligent Ops was disabled and it’s saying it’s not included in EUC Ultimate license. We’re confused as we were under the impression that EUC Ultimate included NCM Starter, which should have Intelligent Ops functionality. Are we misunderstanding that or simply incorrectly applying the EUC Ultimate license to Prism Central? Thanks,
Dear Nutanix Community,We would like to inquire about a general licensing scenario regarding temporary license usage.Currently, we have purchased a new license NCI Starter with a total of 60 cores. Before applying it to the target production cluster, we are considering applying this license temporarily to a separate cluster for initial setup or validation purposes. The scenario we would like to confirm is as follows:1. Apply the new license to a temporary cluster with approximately 60 cores.2. After validation, remove the license from the temporary cluster.3. Re-apply the same license to the intended production cluster. We would like to understand:* Whether this scenario is supported.* If there are any risks or limitations associated with this process.* Any recommended best practices for handling such a temporary license application. This inquiry is intended as a general question regarding licensing flexibility and does not involve specific device details.Thank you for your assistance.
Currently attempting to apply dark site cluster based license on PCVM of Prism Central with versions: 2024.3.1.10 with NCC 5.1.2 and LCM 3.1.1 with the command “~/ncc/bin/license_key_util apply key=license_key cluster=cluster_uuid”Prism Element Clusters are on AOS 7.0.1.5, NCC 5.2.0.1 and LCM 3.2.1However when I run the command I receive a “Segmentation fault (core dumped)” error message. Is there a reason why this would be occurring? I checked and verified that all versions are above the minimum supported version.
Hello Nutanix Community, I have customer who is planning to upgrade AOS 6.5 to AOS 7.3 with PC 2022.9 running on Hyper-V 2022 from our Nutanix Cluster. They cannot upgrade to PC 2024.2 or higher (PC 7.3) due to Hyper-V 2022 is not supported on this latest PC versions. Customer is asking if they can upgrade AOS 7.3 only? And still manage the cluster via PC 2022.9?May I know If there is any performance, support, licensing, and operational impact If customer continues on AOS 7.3 w/ PC2022.9? I understand that PC2022.9 is already EOSL and our SRE may not able to assist if running on EOSL version.I did check AOS 7.3 to PC version compatibility unfortunately it doesn’t show PC2022.9. Note that customer is not ready to move yet to AHV due to internal application dependencies and business directions. They are also not using the Prism Central except for managing the NCI Pro license. Looking forward for your helpful response. Thanks and regards,OJ
Dear community, This is my 1st post/question here.We are storing raw data on one of our Nutanix Files. For the moment, 100 TiB are licensed on for it but these data are increasing quickly. These are mainly raw data that we need to store for at least 5 years. We also need to be able to access these files without any delay if needed in production. Therefore, we are looking for a way to free up space on Nutanix Files using tiering to be able to store these “cold” data in an S3 bucket with a tiering policy (after 1 year without access/modification, the data will be tiered on S3). This S3 bucket is for example 300Tib big.My question here is: we licenced 100Tib of this Nutanix Files with a NUS Pro licence. Do we also need to licence the 300Tib of storage used as a tiering location? Thanks for your helpLionel
If you're applying licenses from our Portfolio 2.0—including NCI, NCM, and NUS—you'll need to do so directly from Prism Central (PC). PC is now the central hub for managing your licenses.Explore all the products that are part of our Portfolio 2.0 in this page: Nutanix Cloud Platform Software OptionsIn the past, our legacy portfolio allowed licensing through Prism Element (PE). However, we now recommend using Prism Central for your licenses. If you’ve already deployed Prism Central and registered your PE to it, the licensing should be done from Prism CentralIf you're a Nutanix customer, you can access detailed documents with step-by-step instructions to license your environment through Prism Central by:Using seamless licensing: Licensing ANY - Seamless Licensing Manual Application and management of licenses: Licensing ANY - Manually License a Cluster and Add-On (Legacy)
Hello,We have licenses for our on-prem servers that are expiring in a couple of weeks and we don’t have approval to spend the money to renew them just yet. I can do monthly billing with no-commitment though. I’m wondering if we can switch the licenses to use PAYG licenses through the Azure marketplace, AWS marketplace or similar. Is it possible to pay for licenses on a monthly term and use them for our on-prem systems? Here’s what we have for licensing. 1 X Nutanix AOS Ultimate - subscription license renewal + Production Support -Mfg. Dear Nutanix Support Team,I recently purchased a used Nutanix server, and I am currently facing an issue accessing the Support Portal. Upon attempting to log in, I was prompted to enter a serial number, service tag, or software registration ID. Unfortunately, as this is a second-hand purchase, I do not have the original order fulfillment email or access to the necessary information.I kindly request your assistance with the following: Activating my access to the Support Portal for this Nutanix server. Initiating the process for transferring ownership and support entitlements to my account. I am happy to provide any necessary details, including the serial number, proof of purchase, and company information, to verify my ownership and facilitate this request. Please let me know the steps I should follow or any additional information you require to resolve this matter.Thank you for your time and support.
Hey all you fantastic Nutanix enthusiasts out there!! 🤓Wanted to bring up a dynamic we are seeing recently with the G6 hardware family going away soon, getting decommissioned and replaced in the field. In the case where your applied G6 licenses have expired, your cluster will of course get some notifications but also the “Expand Cluster” button will be greyed out. 🤔This would obviously be an issue for someone working on adding their new G9 nodes to the cluster to then proceed with any data migrations or configurations needed to decommission the G6s. The best practice here is to fully remove all licenses from the cluster in question and then complete any and all node changes, upgrades and updates. Any restrictions imposed by the expired licenses will have ceased so this should proceed as expected. 😊 Once the cluster is in it’s final state, this is a perfect time to run through the licensing workflow and apply the appropriate licensing again. Even if all you are doing is shut
After deploying 6 Lenovo ThinkAgile HX650 V3 CE nodes in a single cluster, Nutanix Prism Element shows that it has no active licenses. In the Nutanix portal website with the end user credentials, it can be seen that it has the starter and pro licenses. When uploading the cluster summary file generated by Nutanix Prism Element, it shows the error "No compatible products found for the uploaded cluster summary file". The cluster does not have access to DNS or an NTP server. I have also tried entering the cluster information as Dark Site but it continues to show the same error. I would appreciate it if you could tell me how I can overcome the error and upload the license. Thank you.
1. What happens if a dark site can't import CSF files and therefore can't convert licenses?2. If I don't currently have PCs installed in my cluster or have a low AOS version that prevents me from applying a new license, is converting my license for now the right way to go?3. I have a cluster configured with NX-3060-G6 NBL licenses. In this case, for the G6 equipment, the EOSL is known to be until January 31, 2020. Are these licenses not extendable or renewable?4. Conversely, if the CBL expires by January 31, will it be possible to renew or convert to 2.0 without any restrictions? There's a lot I don't know about converting licenses.
We are sizing Nutanix HCI with 10 nodes, First cluster with compute having 4 nodes and Second cluster with 6 nodes for Object Storage. We need license suggestions here, and clarity on if we use some of the storage space from second cluster for the VMs do we still need the NUS license, or on first cluster if we use the 194TB for VMs do we need to purchase NUS? Need suggestion if sizing can be optimized. There is GPU as well for 4 compute nodes, which is separately license by Nvidia.
Currently, I have a Nutanix Acropolis PRO (P1.0) license where the ‘Multiple Site DR’ feature is limited. By upgrading the license to P2.0, if I understand correctly, this feature should be unlocked, enabling the possibility of having Multiple Site DR as many-to-many. Is this correct?”Is there anything else you need help with regarding this upgrade?Thank you for your help
Hello, I must upgrade a cluster from AOS 5.15.5 to AOS 6.10.The cluster owns legacy license that are already under maintenance. Do I need to convert them to the new Portfolio ?I prefer to keep the legacy license because the cluster is highlty use and I am not want to a one or three PC VM.I think the conversion is not mandatory but I can’t find the official documentation. Thanks for any answer.Julien
There are occasions in which you try to apply licenses and come across the following message:"License class and license mode cannot be appliance and NX-LOD for NCI Ultimate."The reason for this message could be related to the Block/Node configuration or possible LOD to CBL conversion that still has pending actions. Please follow the article we have created to resolve this issue. A full description and further details are covered in the link below.https://portal.nutanix.com/page/documents/kbs/details?targetId=kA0VO0000005BxJ0AU
If you’ve come across an "Unnamed” Cluster in your list of licensed clusters, here’s what it means:It’s simply referring to a Prism Central cluster. If the administrator didn’t assign a specific name during the Prism Central setup, it may appear as "Unnamed” by default. Here’s an example of how it might look:The image displays a table with a "Cluster Name" column, highlighting the entry labeled "Unnamed."This isn’t an error, just the default label that appears when no name is provided during configuration. If you’d like to change the name of your Prism Central, refer to this article: Manually Changing Prism Central Cluster Name using nCLI (nutanix.com) or open a technical support case. Here’s a link explaining how to do so: Portal ANY - Creating a Case (nutanix.com)
You may notice that when converting Mine V2 licenses to NUS Starter licenses in portfolio 2.0, the conversion rate appears to be 50% of the original amount of Mine V2 licenses. Example:50 TiBs of Mine V2 licenses convert to 25 TiBs of NUS licenses. This difference is due to the way Mine V2 licenses and NUS licenses are calculated:Mine V2: Represent raw TiBs of capacity. NUS licenses: Represent usable TiBs of capacity. When converting from Mine V2 licenses to NUS licenses, the conversion rate is 2:1 because NUS account for usable storage capacity, which is about half of the raw storage. This means that for every 2 TiBs of Mine V2 (raw capacity), you will get 1 TiB of NUS (usable capacity). To learn more about Nutanix’s new portfolio, click here: Nutanix Cloud Platform Software Options
As part of the cluster destroy or decommissioning process, we are supposed to unlicense the cluster first to release the licenses back to the Account Inventory. If you forgot to do it, now there is a guardrail which will not let you to destroy the cluster. You will get an error like below:ERROR cluster:1360 We have detected that you are destroying a cluster that is in a licensed state. Please refer to https://portal.nutanix.com/kb/3716 to reclaim the licenses from this cluster before proceeding with 'cluster destroy'.Sometime the cluster can be in a unstable or undefined state where the customer will not be able to access the Prism Gui to reclaim the licenses. In that case the solution provided by KB 3716 may not work. The workaround for that can be:SSH into the cluster Start the cluster Once the cluster comes back up, run the "ncli license reset-license" command It will show whether the license was reset successfully After that, stop the cluster again and try the "cluster destroy" comm

Got RBAC? This is for single account and multi account Role Based Access Control in the support portal. When this feature is enabled it puts the power back into your hands, the customer. Please talk to your Account Team to discuss the benefits of RBAC, if you have multiple accounts to link asset and license inventory availability. It allows you to designate Customer Admin(s) who can then perform a number of actions. This includes User Management, which consists of:Adding and removing users and Admins Locking and unlocking users Updating account access, and Assigning roles in regards to licensing plus tagging. If this sounds like something you might be interested in, here is a document that explains this in greater detail:https://portal.nutanix.com/page/documents/details?targetId=Portal-Help:sup-rbac-sp-c.html
