Hi all,I am trying to install Nutanix on a former Dell VxRail node. The server is a Dell PowerEdge R640, and it has been re-branded back to a standard Dell R640 in iDRAC - the installation is only for Lab/testing, not for production.I have tried several installation combinations:Latest available AOS/AHV versions — although I understand these may not be supported on this older hardware Latest supported combination I could find for this platform: AOS 6.5.1.8 AHV 20220304.336 In all attempts, Foundation fails during the installation with the following error:CRITICAL svm_rescue: No suitable SVM boot disk foundAOS installation failed. Reason: NoneThe node boots successfully into Phoenix, downloads the AOS package, AHV ISO, Anaconda bits and driver package, but fails when the CVM/SVM installation begins.Model: Dell PowerEdge R640 / R640-10Boot mode: Legacy BIOSSecure Boot: DisablediDRAC: iDRAC9Storage controller: HBA330Boot device: Dell BOSS-S1 RAID1BOSS virtual disk size: approx. 240 GBDat
Hello everyone. We are deploying Nutanix for the first time using foundation v5.7 with 4node XC-660 servers and Dell S5224-ON top of rack switches. Launching foundation, we are getting repeatable Failure:"fatal: Running CVM Installer, Starting host installer"Phoenix is installed on all servers but that is as far as the install gets. Any ideas? We have a case open as well with Nutanix
Dear experts,I have successfully installed Nutanix Community Edition (CE) 2.1 on VMware Workstation, but I'm facing a networking issue.Environment Platform: VMware Workstation Nutanix Version: Community Edition 2.1 Allocated Resources: 65 GB RAM 8 vCPUs Installation completed successfully, and I can log in to Prism without any issues.ProblemAfter logging into Prism, I checked the Network Configuration, but the Virtual Switch list is empty. Because no virtual switch is available, I'm unable to create a VM since there is no network to attach. What I've CheckedInstallation completed without any reported errors. Prism is accessible through the management IP. The virtual switch is not created or displayed under the networking section.Has anyone experienced this issue with CE 2.1 running on VMware Workstation? Is there any additional configuration required after installation, or could this be related to the VMware virtual network adapter configuration?Any guidance or troubleshooting steps w
Hi all,As part of the planned replacement of our current Nutanix cluster later this year, we are reviewing the network infrastructure requirements for the new deployment.Since a large portion of our network is already built on Ubiquiti switching, I would like to evaluate whether the Ubiquiti Enterprise Campus Aggregation Switches would be a suitable platform for the new cluster.Based on the published specifications, these switches appear to meet the required connectivity and performance criteria. Before proceeding further, I would appreciate any feedback regarding their suitability for a Nutanix environment, particularly with respect to redundancy, high availability, east-west traffic handling.Has anyone deployed or validated these switches in a similar virtualization or hyperconverged infrastructure environment? Thanks in advance for your insights.Kind regards,Erik
I am getting ready to deploy a new Nutanix cluster next week and am preparing my Foundation VM. I have imported the 7.5.1.6 AOS package which then states that the minimum AHV version is 11.0.1.2-33. I’ve then downloaded this ISO from the link direct within Foundation and imported but I then get the message that this in an unsupported Hypervisor. I’ve updated the whitelist but the hypervisor is still showing as not in the whitelist. Am I ok to just install or do I need to check something else?
i have a nutanix cluster of node with (25gb ) uplink and LACP is configured on it . i need to to expand cluster with nodes with ( 100GB ) uplink .i prepared the new node with below configuration:1- re-imaged the new node with same version of AOS and AHV as the existing cluster 2- configured the the new node with LACP my questions:1- is there any impact to cluster that we mix speed of network as some node work with 25g and other with 100g ?2- in expand cluster steps the is tab of network configuration is mandatory to set its configuratiion or can skip this configuration as i configured on new node , what will happen if i skip network configuration during expand 3- how long the expand will take to expand 4 node ?
Hi Team,Could you please help by sharing the documents/procedure for the below activities?Changing the Prism Central VM hostname. Migrating Prism Central VM disks from one container to another.Appreciate your support. Thanks.Shanmugavadivel Mahali
We are trying to configure the CVM hardening recommendation to enable SNMPv3 only. The Nutanix Bible lists the command as:ncli cluster edit-cvm-security-params enable-snmpv3-only=[true|false] #Default:falseHowever, the AOS 7.5 version of the Security hardening guide doesn’t list the command and execution fails with an invalid command. How can we enable SNMPv3 only or verify that SNMPv2c is disabled?
Hi Team, We have Nutanix Prism central deployed with scale out option by having 3 PC instances in it. We would like to make it one instance instead of 3. Could you help with Nutanix articles that gives the steps to do do.
Question is there a guide to implement firmware for DX servers Via the LCM
I have a ticket open but there are long delays between responses and I’m wondering if anyone in the community has run into this issue.Trying to move a 2012R2 File Server and when running the manual preparation script, I get this failure on Installing VirtIO drivers.Failed to install VirtIO drivers. This would impact migrated VM's network connectivity in AHV cluster. Now, I have since just manually installed the VirtIO drivers and they install without issue. However, I’d like to see the full preparation script finish successfully before I try a move. I’m not sure why it’s even trying to install the drivers when they are already there, I would think they would just see them and move on.Has anyone one seen this one and gotten past it?
Last week I have completed a foundation of 6 HPE Proliant DL360 GEN12 server. This was not functioning like any other foundation in the past.I have encounterd 2 type of issues:ILO7 required HTTPS for the mount of the reuired ISO's ILO7 firmware was to low and therefor got some RESTAPI errors and the foundation failed.i have created a step by step bleg on how to fix those 2 steps (I think the first step already has been talked about here)details about these steps can be found here: https://thevirtualblueprint.com/nutanix-foundation-imaging-errors-on-hpe-proliant-gen12/ good luck
Hi Colleagues,Recently, I’ve don AOS & AHV version upgrade for PE cluster (8 CVMs) which is hosted PC cluster with 3 PCVMs from AOS 6.10.1.7 to 7.3.1.2. PC version is 7.3.1.1.After upgrade, there is an issue of HTTP 420 code is happening and cannot proceed with VM migration cross clusters.Does anyone have the idea or experiences with this? Thanks.
Can default vswitch vs0 be renamed on a new AHV 7.5 cluster? The only VMs on the cluster are the controller VMs.
I am deploying a new AHV environment with 10 clusters. Each cluster will have the same subets/vlans. If I create these from Prism Central can I check the box next each cluster in the subnet creation screen so that each cluster gets the subnet?
We have a cluster that is not being used currently, and would like to run VMware/VSAN on it for testing some things. Is this doable? I am not worried it not supported as it is very temporary and Nutanix will be put back on it. I know ESXi is supported but you have to use CVM still to present the disk I think. So has anyone tried using Nutanix hardware (NX-1175S-G9) to run ESXi and more importantly VSAN natively? I know there are lots of variables here, especially disks being recognized, etc.
Evening,I’ve created a cluster with four nodes using the Nutanix Community Edition. Does anyone have a quick cheat sheet on updating everything. This is my second go around, and the last time, everything updated, but Prism stopped responding even after I updated. Do I need to upgrade Prism First? what’s the difference between Prism that comes after the install and Prism Central?Any suggestions on steps to updating everything before I start creating Virtual Machines would be helpful. Thanks, James
Hi Folks,I have NX-8170-G10 configured with 1x 2port 10G copper, 2x 2port 25G Fibre NICs. I need to make the following configurations.1x 2 port Copper : Active-Backup e.g. br0-up1x 2 port Fibre : Active-Active (balanced-tcp) in LACP 1 e.g. br0-up11x 2 port Fibre : Active-Active (balanced-tcp) in LACP 2 e.g. br0-up2I have the followig questions.Do I need seperate Bridge for each uplink I used the following commands on AHV for creating the uplink, but I am getting warnings on Prism Element ovs-vsctl add-bond br0 br0-up2 eth4 eth5 ovs-vsctl set port br0-up2 other_config:lacp-fallback-ab=true ovs-vsctl set port br0-up2 other_config:lacp-time=fast ovs-vsctl set port br0-up2 bond_mode=balance-tcp ovs-vsctl set port br0-up2 lacp=active and the same commands for br0-up1
Hi everyone!Recently, a client challenged me to integrate their Nutanix clusters into their existing Prometheus and Grafana stack. While I’ve found solid integrations for Nutanix Objects and Kubernetes environments, the path to extracting granular metrics from Prism Element (PE) and Prism Central (PC) seems less straightforward for standard infrastructure.I’ve been reviewing the classic community post “MONITORING Part 3/4 Metrics and Prometheus and Grafana”, but since it’s now 5 years old, I suspect APIs and available exporters have evolved significantly.I’d love to hear from the community: Is anyone currently running this setup in modern production environments? Are you relying on third-party exporters (like Cloudflare’s) or leveraging API v3/v4 directly? In your opinion, have the latest Prism Central native APIs made Prometheus redundant for infrastructure-level monitoring? Any insights, updated documentation, or "lessons learned" you could share would be invaluable in helping me
I am installing the latest Nutanix CE from USB onto an HP DL380 G9 with 160GB Ram & 3 new 1TB SATA drives.CE Loads and runs incompletely. instsvcdrv.service: Control Process exited, status=155. Please point me to what the actual issue is. TIA.
Hi everyone,Has anyone here worked with Nutanix in a PCI DSS environment? I have a few questions and would love to hear from people who have been through it.- How did you separate PCI workloads from other workloads in your Nutanix cluster?- Did you use Nutanix Flow for network segmentation? Did it work well for PCI?- How did you handle logging to meet PCI DSS requirements?- Any issues with patching AOS / AHV while staying compliant?- Did your auditor (QSA) already know Nutanix, or did you have to explain the platform to them?Any tips or lessons learned are welcome. Thank you!
Curious if anyone else is seeing the eventlog getting spammed constantly with Event ID 1035 after NGTools is installed on Guest VM machines.Event Viewer > Windows Logs > Application
Is there any docker image for Nutanix Enterprice AI? so that I can run on my linux machine? Tutorials show that there some iso file that i need to install on bare metal. But is there any container sort of thing that I can run on top linux machine? instead of installing nutanix Os itself
New Nutanix cluster AOS 7.5, AHV 11.00 & Prism Central 7.5.0.5when deploying it get to Post deployment steps and failsi can ping the Prism Central vmit gives the error Encountered Exception in Post Deployment step timed out waiting for Prism gateway and aplos to come up
I have changed the ip addresses of AVH machine now I want to change the CVM ips as well (in the same ip range of the AVH) but I am not able to do so. Not able to access the CVM Can anyone guide ?
