Nutanix CE installation over KVM

Hello,I am attempting to deploy a Nutanix CE virtual machine on KVM; however, I am encountering the following error: Upon investigation, it appears that the installer is attempting to access certain system information from /sys/class/dmi/id within the VM, but this data is unavailable.I have made several attempts to pass this information using virt-install, but these efforts have not been successful. Support for IPV6 based VM deployment

Hi TeamDoes Nutanix support IPV6 based VM deployments. Currently I am using Prism Central V3 API for deploying VM https://www.nutanix.dev/api_reference/apis/prism_v3.html#tag/vms/paths/~1vms/postIn the payload section it is mentioned that IPV4 support is only available now. If we want to do IPV6 based deployment, is there a workaround for that? Please share the document reference if IPV6 based VM deployment is not possible. If a workaround is there, please let me know how to do this. ThanksAkash

cluster create fails

I have installed CE 2.0 on 3 Supermicro servers. AHV is up, and the CVM is running. The Genesis service is running on all 3 nodes. When I issue the command to create the cluster and use a comma separated list of IPs, I receive the following error (same error regardless of which CVM I run the command from):MainThread cluster:1001 Could not discover all nodes specified. Please make sure that the SVMs from which you wish to create the cluster are not already part of another cluster. Undiscovered ips : localhostThe localhost part is throwing me off. Any ideas? I can ping all the CVMs from all the other CVMs. I have restarted nodes, restarted genesis, and used the --skip_discovery with no luck. Any help would be appreciated.

Issues with new single node cluster

I’ve attempted to install a single node cluster (many times) and seem to have the same issues. Post install, the cluster is not created. Genesis appears to not be installed or running? I can ping and ssh between AHV and CVM. Some issues I see leveraging the ‘troubleshooting common nutanix issues’:

Cannot deploy a virtual AHV/CVM on VMware for ACI integration

I’ve tried installing AHV/CVM and have ran into a multitude of issues. However, I thought I finally got a successful CE up. I was able to SSH to CVM, verify Genesis was running. Yet I randomly get issues with this VM and the network and now, yet again, I can’t access the CVM or even the GW. I’m following this doc: :https://www.jeroentielen.nl/installing-nutanix-community-edition-ce-on-vmware-workstation/.I’m also doing some troubleshooting from: https://portal.nutanix.com/page/documents/kbs/details?targetId=kA00e000000LM8BCAW and not getting anywhere.Sometimes I can ping the GW, sometimes I can SSH to the CVM, sometimes I can’t.

Erasure Coding while RF2 enabled

Erasure coding is a data protection method that breaks data into pieces, adding redundancy for fault tolerance and data recovery. When we enabled RF2 on the cluster that copies data in two different nodes for fault tolerance, should I use erasure coding on the cluster? what is the benefit?

nCLI is throwing erro while connecting to Prism Central

Hi TeamI am trying to execute some NCLI command to interact with my Cluster. I have download the nCLI artifacts from my Prism Central web UI. Failed to register with Prism Central

Hi! I’m trying to complete my first Prism Central deployment on a test lab, however whenever I try to connect my cluster to the PC, I get the following error, any idea on where I may have went wrong? I can login to the PC just fine, and everything pings each other with no issue.

CVM Not Starting

Demoing CE edition for alternative to ESXI. Finished Install. CVM Won’t start. I check virsh list --all and nothing is in the list. Demoing on a i5, 32 Gb of Ram. I’ve been combing through the forms and looking for any insight on what the issue could be.

Failed to start CVM after CE 2.1 installation

Hi,I’ve been trying to install Nutanix CE 2.1 (from this post) on a bare metal server bought from OVH (RISE-1-11) with the following specifications:CPU: Intel Xeon-E 2136 - 6c/12t - 3.3 GHz/4.5 GHz RAM: 64 Go ECC 2666 MHz Disks: 2×512 Go SSD NVMe 2×4 To HDD SATA After multiple tries (OVH’s IPMI/KVM feature is pretty bad so I had a very hard time completing the installation process), I finally succeeded to install the ISO on this machine.However, once I boot in AHV, I try to ping the CVM but get a Destination Host Unreachable error. After checking with virsh list --all I found out that the CVM was in a shut off state. 3 drives needed for Nutanix installation?

Hi, I am considering Nutanix for our use-case. We have a HPe DL385 server with 2 L40S GPUs. I understand that Nutanix is supported by NVidia, which is an important plus. However, I am trying to install Nutanix on our server, and now see it requires 3 *physical* drives to operate. One for the Hypervisor, one for CVM and at least one for Data. As we only have 2 (RAID 1) NVME, and 1 Data drive, we cannot proceed installation. I am not looking forward to sacrifice an entire Data drive (3TB) to a CVM / Hypervisor of only 200 GB. However, the installation does not seem to understand partitions in a drive. Can you confirm that the Nutanix installation requires 2x *physical* drives to work? Or is there still a workaround to have it understand partitions?Thanks!

Nutanix CE Consistantly Fails to Install

Howdy all. I’m trying to install Nutanix CE on a blade server to evaluate it as an alternative to VMWare. While configuring LACP, rolling hypervisor reboot stuck at 90%

Good evening Nutanix’ers, After I configured an active-active bundle on my virtual switch in PE, and modifying my upstream switch with LACP, all seemed well. However, I noticed that the hypervisor rolling reboot never finished, and its been stuck at 90% for ~3 hours. When viewing incomplete tasks in ecli, I noticed that the virtual switch update and hypervisor rolling restore are both stuck at “kRunning.” Screenshot I am thinking about killing the rolling restart task, however doing so warns me that “Using this command can cause database corruption and complete system failure, if used improperly.” I admit that I may have not fully appreciated a step about maintenance mode when following this kb here for this specific configuration, so if I’m borked, then I’ll chalk it up to a learning experience. However, I’d like to see what my options are :). Despite all of this, I’ve confirmed LACP is negotiated, and the rest of the system seems normal despite the stuck task. What do you guys think?

Setup Prism Central and Witness for Nutanix clusters

I understand that the Witness service is now integrated with Prism Central in version 2024.1. Given this, if we still want to set up one Prism Central in Site A or Site B (within a Nutanix environment) while placing the Witness VM in a third site (Site C, which only has a VMware environment), is this setup possible?Thanks in advance!

Nutanix Native VLAN

Hi Nutanix Peeps, I am new in HCI technology and would like to seek your insights on how to configure native VLAN in the Nutanix Environment. The plan was to remove the default VLAN (Data Traffic) to all Cisco access switches therefore removing it will also require to configure new native VLAN in the trunk link between the switches and Nutanix Hosts. Hello,I am a newbie with Nutanix. Recently, at work, we acquired an NX-1065-G5 with 3 nodes.We currently have Nutanix Community Edition (CE) installed on an HP workstation with a 3-node cluster. We would like to migrate to the newly acquired NX-1065-G5. What would be the best way to approach this migration, and how does the Nutanix CE installation differ between the HP workstation and the NX-1065-G5?

Unable to SSH into CVM, Disk Detached

Hi experts,I'm currently facing an issue with one of the nodes in my cluster. Recently, I noticed that a node was marked as "detached from the metadata store" in Prism, and one of its disks is also listed as detached. Prism shows the disk as "Ready to be added," but I'm unsure if the disk is healthy or needs replacement.When attempting to SSH into the affected CVM to verify the disk's status, I found that I'm unable to access the CVM via SSH, although I can still ping it. The other CVMs in the cluster are responding normally. I tried SSHing into the problematic CVM from another CVM in the cluster, but I received a message saying it's unable to connect.The cluster is running on an ESXi hypervisor. I also attempted to open the CVM from the Vcenter console, but nothing is displayed, the CVM doesn’t respond.Has anyone experienced a similar issue or has any advice on troubleshooting this problem? Your guidance would be greatly appreciated.Thank you!

Centralized Log Locations for Cluster Processes

Is there a centralized document that discusses where logs should be for specific processes through the cluster or is it broken down into each applications documentation?i.e. - I’m installing Prism Central and I want to watch the logging progress for the process that is running.One way I learn is to watch logs and see what the system is doing to try and understand flows but I can’t seem to figure out where exactly to look.Thanks

Cannot Start Nutanix after Installation

Hello, we are currently evaluating Nutanix as an alternative to esxi. To get some hands on experience with the product we wanted to install it on one of our lab servers. However, I was not able to start Nutanix after the installation. For Installation, I followed the following Youtube tutrial as well as the installation procedure mentioned on the Nutanix documentation. I keep always stuck on the step where the cluster needs to be started. After installing and booting into AOS, I first run the command `cluster --cluster_function_list="one_node_cluster" --svm_ips= (CVM IP) create` in order to create a single node cluster as mentioned in the video. PC Upgrade Fails with Tar Extraction Error

I am trying to upgrade an old Nutanix cluster managed by Prism Central. We have done the LCM upgrade and NCC upgrade, however when moving to PC it is failing the Preupgrade checks with the error ‘failed to untar /home/nutanix/software_downloads/prism_central/pc.2022.6.0.10 with ret 2 out err tar:/home/nutanix/software_uncompressed/nos/pc2022.6.0.10: Cannot open:No such file or directory’I can see the files get extracted into the software_uncompressed/nos/2022.6.0.10 folder but they are then getting automatuically deleted which leads me to think something is failing a hash check somewhere. The same happens with 2022.6.0.11. Any ideas on how I can resolve this to enable me to upgrade PC?

Nutanix CE installation error message

Hi Trying to install the Nutanix CE on my Dell R620 , I have 3 Drives , 1 SSD and 2x HDD First issue i had as the Nutanix installtion was seeying y SSD as HDD I fixed that by running the below command :lsblk -d -o name,rotaif it is 1 then it is HDD lsblk to identify the SSD if it is sdasudo sh -c 'echo 0 > /sys/block/sda/queue/rotational' Then the system recognise the SSD.I select SSD as C, and the other two HDD as H and D.
