I completed an AOS upgrade from 5.5.2.2 to 5.10.8 on two different clusters.  On one cluster I have the health page showing a warning symbol (no data) and the message: “An error has occurred. Show me why” When I role over “Show me why” I see the message “java.lang.NullPointerException”.  I have a ticket open with Nutanix but haven’t received any solutions that have worked yet. Appreciate help if someone knows how to resolve.

Hi, We have a NX-3060-G4 with 3 VMware hosts on that is currently connected to our Cisco core switch cluster using 10GB twinax cables. A long story short, I need to remove these and connect the NTX to a single 1GB Cisco switch (WS-C3850-12S-S). My question is: can I connect a 1GB SFP link between the NTX and new core switch using the 10GB NTX ethernet port? If so, will the NTX detect that the cable connected can only run at 1GB?   Thanks in advance.

Hello, I'm trying to create a File Server. I did this in Prism Element cluster. I have a problem when I had to select the Client Network PortGroup All my dvportgroup are not visible. I can only see the dvportgroup attached to a dvswitch with uplinks assigned. In my vCenter we have a dvswitch with no uplinks assigned. This dvswitch is used by my network sdn solution which transport the client network. In scripts we use for some ESXi hypervisor configurations we utilize “allssh”.  The problem I’m running in to, though, is I must run each allssh command individually rather than using a script to run multiple allssh commands.  The first line will kick off and before it has a chance to complete the second will kick off.  For example, here’s where we configure DNS on the hypervisor through a CVM: allssh ssh root@192.168.5.1 esxcli network ip dns server add --server=10.1.1.1 allssh ssh root@192.168.5.1 esxcli network ip dns server remove --server=8.8.8.8 allssh ssh root@192.168.5.1 esxcli network ip dns server add --server=10.1.1.2 The first will kick off then the second goes prior to the first completing.  The script then gets confused and stops while still connected to one of the ESXi hosts.  Does anyone know of a way to initiate subsequent allssh commands only after the prior one running has completed?  Although not very clean, should I put a sleep command in between each?

We are on 5.10. I want to leverage the API(s) to remove disks from a VM, and then add new disks to a VM (using images as the sources). Which API should I use? v3 has "Update a existing VM" (sic) but I am unclear about how to (a) remove scsi:1 and scsi:2 and (b) add new disks (using images). The v2 API has "Detach disks" functionality. If I detach a disk does it get deleted? If not how do I delete it after detaching? "Attach disks" is also available in v2 but I don't see a way to use an image as the source (which I can do using ACLI). Thanks in advance for your responses.

Hey Community, can someone clarify the compression and de duplication features that come with the starter edition of AOS? I can see on the Nutanix website: https://www.nutanix.com/products/software-options that starter has a check box beside inline compression and inline de duplication, but not besides compression and de duplication,   Does this mean with a starter license environments can still take advantage of the storage efficiencies of de duplication and compression (on write)?   Is there any solution briefs that go into detail regarding the compression and de duplication features of the starter edition.   Best Regards,

We have multiple Clusters registered in our Prism Central, how can we fetch a report having clusters basic details through PC or command line?

I want to Migration VM. Nutanix(AHV) → Another Nutanix(AHV) So. We added a couple of storage nodes to a modest 3-node cluster that was running out of disk space. The alerts about running out of storage, and not having enough for redundancy, are gone. A few months in, and every time I look in Prism, under Hardware, I see that the storage nodes' "Total Disk Usage" has not gone up very much. The compute nodes' disk usage is about 5-6 times as much as the storage nodes (and the compute nodes actually have more storage onboard than the storage nodes). I understand that Nutanix tries to keep a VM's storage on the same host that provides its compute resources (and the copy is sharded and spread out among other nodes). Is that why I am seeing so little utilisation of the new storage nodes in Prism?

So I had to replace my prism central with a new one, unfortunately it had already taken ownership of the images. With my new prism central at I can not delete any of the old images and I get this error. Operation kImageDelete not allowed, catalog item is owned by cluster 4452164c-24b6-479d-b16b-a8635fbe2741, which I believe is my old prism central UUID. I can't delete them from from the clusters locally because they are hooked to prims central. This is pretty frustrating as I am trying to use PC as my main entry point for managing and deploying vm.

Hi, I have updated my Nutanix (AHV) license and checking license status, i see correct license expiry date applied to my clusters. I however still get alert from “Licese Standy Mode” details below Possible Cause The license file has not been applied after cluster summary file generation. Recommendation Apply a new license.   When  i try to reapply license by downloading csf file, uploading csf file i get error: You’ve uploaded an older/inactive cluster summary file(CSF). To continue, download the latest CSF from Prism Element or Prism Central   Help please

Hi all,   Local Replication is a process in which multiple copies of data are stored within a storage container. These copies exist for fault tolerance. Snapshots are placed locally on the same cluster as the source VM. Thus, If a physical disk fails, the cluster can recover data from another copy. The cluster manages the replicated data, and the copies are not visible to the user.   So, what is the difference the Replication Factor option? Because RF is used too for fault tolerance in case of a physical disk failure (or node, ...)   Thanks

Hi, We want to throttle replication bandwidth. In the Remote Site config in Data Protection, the option is to throttle B/W in MBps.  Is this Mbps (megabits per second) or MB/s (Megabytes per second)?  The unit implies megabytes per second (i.e. the "B" is capitalised), but that is normally a unit of throughput not bandwidth... Obviously there is an order of magnitude in difference so its important we interpret this correctly!

Hello, Lately I have been adding the Nutanix SCOM Management Pack version 2.4.0.0. From the start on it worked fine as I handed over the Cluster information via Nutanix Cluster Discovery. But now, a few weeks later, SCOM will not display any performance data of the clusters anymore. I am not able to find out where exactely caused this problem. I have different Clusters AHV and ESXI as well as multiple OSVersions running. Currently SCOM displays only one Cluster with it's information. From the other Clusters, there is no performance data shown. All other clusters were discovered correctely (and the same way) but won't show their data anymore. My situation looks like this - this dashboard is showing the clusters information. All other clusters (and their nodes) are not showing data - the dashboard stays empty. Hi   I have a concern with the data resilience in Nutanix Cluster about rebuild the data in 2 scenarios. When a node is broken or failure, then the data will be rebuilt at the first time, the node will be detached from the ring, and I can see some task about removing the node/disk from the cluster. The whole process will used about serveral minutes or half hour. It will last no long time to restore the data resilience of the cluster. When I want to remove a node from the cluster, the data will also be rebuilt to other nodes in the cluster. but the time will be last serveral hours or 1 day to restore the data resililence. Seems remove node will also rebuild some other data like curator,cassandra and so on. but Does it will last so long time, hom many data will be move additionaly ? and What the difference for the user data resilience for the cluster?

Hi all, I’m very new to Nutanix, and pretty new to Ansible. I’ve been tasked with updating / installing guest tools on any machines that need them, and they’d prefer to do it via Ansible. I’d like to be able to have Ansible use the uri module to grab the UUID of a given VM, or grab a list of UUID’s and the associated VM; however I’m having a lot of trouble parsing this information out in a way that Ansible can actually use it. Does anyone have experience with this? Or at least can tell me that there’s a better way to be doing this? Thanks!

Hey everyone, I am required to upgrade from ESX 6.7 U1 to U2 to resolve a bug that prevents me from going back more than 8-10mins to look at VM performance, however, Nutanix has only just now tested U3.  My question is: Has anyone migrated to U3 yet and if so how has it been so far? 

We are using a Prism Central Installation with several Clusters in different Sites. For the Administrators on Site, we want to configure a user on the site based prism elements instance, which is a viewing User, with the following additional permissions on the local cluster / Prism Elements: Viewing, Power on and off for all virtual Machines and also a one click shutdown of the whole cluster in case of power outages. We don't want to use the Prism Central User Configuration for following reasons: Prism Central is not accessible in case of line outages or power failures in our sites. And for security reasons and limited skills of the staff on site, I really appreciate not to give admin permission to the site staff. Any Idea, how to deal with this situation ? Thanks Oliver
