A dumb Question.. STS vs LTS | Nutanix Community
Skip to main content
Besides the fact that LTS is Long Term Release and STS is Short Term Release, Is there any reason that STS shouldn't be used for production purposes over LTS ?I want to switch to 5.9 for the ESXi 6.7 compatibility.
This is personal/enterprise preference. For sts you will be required to update for support more often than on an LTS obviously. In the past we have seen more bugs in STS than LTS since new features are normally rolled into STS first.

Depending on the need, running sts in production may be required for a new feature you need or even a bug fix for production.

100% a comfort question for the administors to answer.
Hi @jbroadusii

Please let me know your nodes model and current AOS version, because there are a lot of LTS (5.5.x and 5.10.x) releases compatible with ESXi 6.7 (even the 6.7 U1). So, maybe you don't need to go to STS 5.9.

You can check the compatibility matrix here: https://portal.nutanix.com/#/page/compatibilitymatrix
You should keep in mind that 3rd party software like backup solutions may not be ready for the latest STS releases that you are bound to upgrade to.
Thanks all I ended up going with 5.10 LTS

Hi @jbroadusii

Here is a good post from @Alona  that also explains it - Long Term vs Short Term Support Releases, LTS vs STS - Hope you can use this for future reference along with others. Thanks
