Solved

Hi!We have two Nutanix clusters running ESXi v6.7.0 with a Horizon 7 VDI environment on each.  We needed to be able to sync Horizon AppVolumes between the clusters via some common storage. The solution we were set up with was a FreeNAS VM on one cluster publishing an NFS share which was then attached to the hosts in both clusters.  We weren’t bothered about high availability as it’s not an issue if the replication of the appvolumes goes down sometimes as it’s only needed if appvolumes are being changed or their assignments to users is changing. After an NCC upgrade, Prism Element now flags up this external datastore as unsupported.  I’m struggling to find out from Support what the actual magnitude of risk is here to the stability of the clusters (especially when it comes to upgrading firmwares, AOS etc).Does anyone here have any thoughts on this situation please? Thanks for reading!

During VM creation  in nutanix ESXI, if we select the thin provisioning and submit the operation once , it shows thick provisioning if we see the disk settings. what will be the issue ?

Hi guys,I want to run some tests on a local system, so I created two VMs that are isolated from my production network. So, I created a network in the cluster just to be used by these two VMs. This network does not exist in production, only within the cluster.I added the NIC for this network on both VMs. But even so VMs do not communicate, I cannot ping or access via SSH from one VM to another. This type of configuration, just for testing, is not possible with AHV \ AOS?

We have a UTM with 6 interfaces that go to separate subnets. Each subnet has a ToR Switch. The UTM handles the routing. We are installing a new Nutanix 4 node Block and virtualization physical servers. Assuming that we have 6 physical servers and each server is on a separate subnet, what would our network diagram look like if we included the Nutanix Block? Would we need another switch that has the 6 subnets vlanned, ie: 1 connection from the block and then based on the traffic destination send the traffic out through the vlan port to the ToR switch in the destination subnet?

So i’ve been going through Google searches to find an answer whether Cascade Lake vs Ice Lake can coexist within the same cluster. Unfortunately no luck. So i hope this forum can help me answer this question. My concern is that i was made to understand that Cascade Lake and Ice Lake CPU architecture is different, thus that may pose a performance problems to VM even if the nodes can coexist within the cluster. So the question is, can NX-G7 and NX-G8, which will run on different CPU archtiecture coexist within the same cluster and will it cause any performance issues if this is possible? It would help if you can point me to a KB article or any article for that matter to explain this.Thank you in advance for the help……..

Greetings, I’m unable to schedule exam NCP-MCI 5.15 from the Nutanix university even the PSI, Could you please guide me on how can I take the exam online?

Hello Nutanix community!I have a question about the ability to access the AHV/CVM console from https://demo.nutanix.com/Is the experience limited to the Prism GUI or can we also access the cluster console? Thanks

We have Lenovo HX (3752) installed with 3 nodes pre-bundled with AHV and AOS. The onsite technician configured IPMI (XCC) and we are now able to login to the XCC and also able to access the console (AHV). I wanted to do the following,Change the AHV IP address from the console (commands)? Know the AHV version and its default IPs/current IPs from the console? Connect/ssh to CVM and change the CVM IPs? Create Cluster of 3 nodes

Hello and thank you for the advice, I administer 1 block, 3 node cluster on NX-1065-G4 hardware, power is 110v. Following is the software versions:Version 5.10.10.1 LTS - Pro LicenseNCC Version: 3.9.4.1LCM Version: 2.3.2.3.20029AHV Version: 20170830.396HA reservation is enabled Can you please describe, or link to a KB which will help me understand, how a node failure will cause VM fail-over to another node? For instance, if node 1 fails, how and when with the workload fail-over? What configuration settings do I need to consider to optimize the workflow?

HelloI would like to use REST API within Prism Central to assign a category to a VM.I dont know how to do thatDo I need to use this API - “Update an existing VM” (put /vms/{uuid})or this API- “Create or Update a category value” (put /categories/{name}/{value})And how can I use it to assign a new category and not remove previous category ?RegardsPascal

https://next.nutanix.com/calm-application-management-55/os-patching-automation-with-calm-39677With reference to my previous thread, I have below doubts pertaining to achieving automation of Windows hosts patching over Nutanix AHV infra.Process would be like - Take a snapshot of the server, deploy the updates, test the server services are functioning as expected, if not restore the snapshot. Can it be achieved without using Calm? I mean by only using Ansible/Chef along with WSUS? What will be overall workflow for this? Any other 3rd party tools I will need to use for the same?I am looking for open source and cost effective approach here.Any Help/Direction will be highly appreciated.

Nutanix collector fails to log into Prism central. This is the error I am getting. “Failed to login. Possible reasons could be having insufficient access permissions, missing binaries or failure to execute scripts” Has anyone seen this issue?

Is it possible to add more than one NIC as network client in a single deployment of Nutanix Files?I am performing tests in which Nutanix Files would serve 03 different networks and during Files' deployment it is only possible to add 01 network client. However, this test will serve 02 other networks besides the one already configured.

Hi,Is there any limitation on mixed hardware generation in one cluster Nutanix? Example old generation like G5 want to mixed with G8. Thanks

Dear communityI want to install three G5 nodes with the foundation vm 5.0.4 and it fails at the beginning with the error"Failed to connect to the following IPMIs:"Let me describe my setup and my troubleshootingNodes are  X10DRT-P-G5-NI22 Set IP for the IPMI on each node and also set the ntp servers on each node Trying to image the AHV Foundation vm is version 5.04 All nodes, DNS server and the Foundation VM are in the same subnet I can ping from the foundation to the IPMI I can also send IPMI cmd to the nodes and getting results=> so used username and passwd are correct and nothing is blocking the trafficThe Foundation fails with error "Failed to connect to the following IPMIs" Following error appears very often in the logfile2021-10-13 14:40:18,125Z Thread-236 detect_node_type.check_for_nutanix:236 DEBUG: Got a pexpect.TIMEOUT exception with process.before = SMC IPMI Tool V2.22.1(Build 190920) - Super Micro Computer, Inc.Press Ctrl+D or "exit" to exitPress "?" or "help" for helpPre

Hi, I just created a new account and wanted to activate the serial number for our NX-1065S-G5.I cannot activate because I’m not authorized for the account associated with the serial number. The mail-domain from our company changed and the old admins are not here any more. What to do?

We have a Nutanix lab with 3 HPE PROLIANT DX360 GEN10 hosts. After we have done our tests, now we want to destroy everything and re-install everything again. What is the best way to proceed?

Hello,I want to know how to proceed to pass the certifications on Nutanix.

Hi there. I believe it was 5.18+ that the reverse proxy (apache) is no longer being used for cluster communication but something else. I can’t quite recall what it was called and where the logs can be found. Prior, I could access the httpd logs in the typical location for any http errors/faults but am not sure where to locate these now.

I am new and watching all videos. I try to set up nutanix like proxmox CE with:3 x Dell R710 Hosts (nutanix installed on usb internal drive)1 x Dell R720 Freenas 20TB storage connected with direct Fiber With proxmox fiber channel setup was a nightmare, so can I use Fiber Channel here with Nutanix? My goal is if one of a host dies I have other VMs be ready | transferred into another host so like in VMWARE (pricy license). Let me know if I can achieve same with Nutanix and direct me towards hardware (Fiber Channel or 10GB ISCSI) whatever is easier and works well. There was a reply but I did not have a chance to reply. Can I use Nutanix for storage or I have to have 3rd party software like FreeNas?

I tried to launch my scheduled exam but exam launcher was stuck on remove team viewer from my laptop. This application was not installed on my laptop but still was getting same error. Due to that I was not able to attend my exam.

Hi, I know in last few days that by default, storage in AHV is thinly provisioned. So, im asking if there is a way to avoid disk over-provisioning ?

Is it possible to have a replication with 30 minutes RPO, as Near Sync supports 1 to 15 min RPO and Async support >= 60 min. Is there any option by which we can have 30 minutes RPO.

After replacing the motherboard and raid controller, cvm does not start. Error "Device 0000:59:0.0 not found..."

I’m trying to book for my NCA 5.15 exam but i’m getting a message that my account is incomplete and i sent an email to univirsity@nutanix.com but no response from them yet. The following message shows for me:Account Incomplete!Account creation can take up to 30 minutes. If you just created your account, please try again in 30 minutes. If you created your account more than 30 minutes ago, please contact university@nutanix.com for assistance.Return to Nutanix University. Thanks in advance.
