Hi, We have a cluster of Dell XC730xd-12 and would like to update them to ESXi U3a (to match the rest of our vSphere environment). I know Dell don't have a customised ESXi U3a iso yet, so is there any advice on how to do the upgrade such as any specific extra drivers required in the Update Manager baseline or will I be able to use the json and the vanilla VMware zip and use one-click cluster upgrade? Regards, Nick
Dears , I have aleady configured 3 nodes Nutanix block(NX-1000 series) more than year ago ,and now our customer requested anew node (NX-3000 serie) to be added into existing cluster.Could you please letme know the best way to add this node without impacting the running nodes? Regards,
Hi To All, I am new here and trying to know more about nutanix replication topologies how do i configure it? Is there a step by step guide to configure this? I want to use the two-way mirroring for HO to DR site? Your responce is higly appriciated. Nutanix’s native replication infrastructure and management supports a wide variety of enterprise topologies to meet real-world requirements, including: 1. Two-way mirroring 2. One-to-Many 3. Many-to-One 4. Many-to-Many
Just had the cluster installed. I'm going to patch my 5.5 installs, I put the first node into maintance mode and its just waiting for the CVM to power off or move. Should the CVM shutdown on its own or do I need to power it off before I patch and reboot? thanks,jb
Hi all, I read the acropolis administration guide and the Acropolis hypervisor Best Practices guide. thanks lot i would it and i have it. It's explain how to create bridge, bond, separe 10Gb interface and 1G interface. But nothing for create a network vlan (tagin or native) on the NEW bridge. If you try by the GUI like this The network will be created in the native Bridge (BR0) so if we are in this situtation : (best practice 4.1.2.1) the commands are : nutanix@CVM$ allssh "ssh root@192.168.5.1 "ovs-vsctl add-br br1" " nutanix@CVM$ allssh "manage_ovs --bridge_name br0 --bond_name bond0 --interfaces 10g update_uplinks" nutanix@CVM$ allssh "manage_ovs --bridge_name br1 --bond_name bond1 --interfaces 1g update_uplinks" and for create the Network : acli net.create VM_TEST vswitch_name=br1 vlan=99 Now you can put your VM on the bridge 1 and vlanTAG99.regards alap
Hi all, Does anyone tell me the number of hosts you can add to a cluster when you are using acropolis hypervisor. I understand that the number of hosts you can add to a cluster depends on the hypervisor you use. For example, if it were configured with ESXi 6.0, the number of hosts you can add would be 64 hosts. I appreciate if anyone tell me the limitations for acropolis hypervisor if there is any. Thank you
Hi there, I'm facing a problem with Prism that display some weird chart. As you can see above, the chart shows no value (blank) every 6mins. When I go to the analysis page, the blank is still present and there is some strange movement of the Memory line: Do you know where this could come from ?
Hi all, Can anyone tell me, if there exists any general Acceptance Test Checklist. I have to write such a test, but maybe there already is a good format. Thanks in advance. Regards, Bart
I need to import from KVM (CentOS 6.6) on Acropolis 4.5 a VM RedHat 4.4 with ide disks (RH 4.4 doesn't support Virtio). I have created a new VM from acli with IDE disk:acli vm.disk_create TEST_RH44create_size=80G container=cnt1 bus=ideacli vm.nic_create TEST_RH44 network=vlan.0. Now I have to import the source VM disk image (ASdisk01.img), How to import it as ide on the new VM on Nutanix?
Hello All, For one of the customers, I did a fresh install and on that one, when I check the data resiliency status, it shows me that for Extend Group, it is 0. The explanation is as follows: "Based on placement of extend group replicas the cluster can tolerate a maximum of 0 node failure." Do you know what this can be about? There is no error or warning on the cluster. Cheers..
Typically, I create two containers on my clusters. Why? Some background first. I assembled a mostly self service instance of VMware vCenter on top of Nutanix. Users can deploy OVAs and have access to VMs in their resource pools and folders. I group users by team and create resource pools and folders with specific access levels. We give access to AD users to either the folder or both the folder and resource pool depending on if they can create VMs (or deploy an OVA). Most users just get VM Console Access but some do get more of a power user privilege. Because users can't follow process or procedures, we often get thick provisioned VM. While thick provisioned VMs don't actually get created in their full size instead Nutanix reserved (Explicit Reserved) the space even though the vdisk is thin provisioned on storage. In the past, this was not obvious and was not well reflected in free logical space. So, I create two containers. Periodically, I use VMware storage vMotion to
This isn't really installation and configuration but it was related to my protection domain snapshot issue. So, when I ran low on free space, the metadata increased becasue there were still tons of blocks out there to keep track of. So, this combination of low space and threshold breaking metasada size exceeds the preconfigured (metadata) size limit before kicking off automation actions. I don't really understand these failsafe actions fully but both inline compression and deduplication fingerprinting (I use only performance tier dedup but my true love is compression) are disabled. I am not so sure about compression but I can see deduplication fingerprinting adding to metadata. The kicker, to me, is that space conservation via deduplication and compression is more important when I am low on space. The recovery from these automatic actions is to free space then call support to re-enable the disabled features. I am waiting for an answer why they do not automatically re-enable
One of the mistakes I made recently was not understanding my daily snapshots, retention and expiration well enough when I created protection domain to keep local snapshots. First, I took a shortcut to creating daily snapshots by selecting Repeat Weekly with every day selected. The docs are a bit light on details so I assumed this would be treated like a daily snapshot. This can casue a problem with many snapshots to keep. I selected 7 so I would have a running weeks worth. Actually, it keeps 7 weeks worth of weekly/daily snapshots. When my free space decrease to a warning state then critical state, I started looking at VM usage but found it increased only a couple TB which meant I was missing about 40TB! While it wasn't clear the snapshots were consuming massive storage, it was clear it was not what I planned. So, I deleted a bunch of snapshots after changing to daily snapshots and keeping the last 14. This helped free a lot of space but there was still some space miss
I'm putting together a design for a 3 node cluster with the 6000 series nodes. The first block is 6235-G4, the second block, I'm a bit confused. I could get another identicle block with 1 node ( 6135-G4), but there is also the option of getting a 6135C, which is single socket, less RAM, smaller SSD and crappier CPU. It's cheaper and will make the min 3 node cluster, but I'm wondering what kind of performance hit it will have for the overall solution. Am I better off getting a 6135-G4 and being done with it?
Hi guys, i'm a potential new Nutanix customer here in Italy ! Actually 43 VM's 6.5TB, 20% CPU average use (6X Xeon 5680 CPU) 400 write/iops average during 24hours and 3000 of peak. The goal is two sites in stretched cluster with sync writes, connected with 2x1Gbs fiber and upgradable to 10Gbs if it is necessary to this project. Actually we have 6 cpu vmware ent. license, 6 cpu Veeam ent.plus license and 6 CPU Microsoft OEM License that i need to rebuy with the new hardware. One key point is the Oracle VM, we've 6 cpu standard one license and Oracle want to license all Vsphere cluster, we discussed with Oracle Italy and with two legals...and that's it! Our partner send me two projects variant: 1) 6 nodes dual socket, 3 per site with 12 Haswell v3 cpu 72 cores in global. 2) 6 nodes single socket, 3 per site with 6 Ivy bridge v2 CPU 60 cores in global. With the number 1 i need to create and buy a dedicated vsphere cluster to run Oracle across 2 of 6 node, I can also use this second cl
Hi All, In Version 4.0, automatic download for NOS Upgrades does not work if HTTP Proxy is enabled. Can someone confirm that this is fixed in the latest releases? Thanks in advance. Wim
Hi, i'm quite new with nutanix and I currently doing a planning for a project for one of my client. the plan is to copy over VMs in their production site and then later to move the nutanix to their secondary site. The question is how do change the IP addresses for nutanix equipment when moved to the secondary site. What other option that i can consider? Hypervisor will be VMware 5.5 Update 2.
I am able to change the timezone but the time is not correct. I would like to know the command to change the cluster time setting. i run DATE and it show wrong time. How to change the time of a Nutanix cluster?
I would like to install Windows 2012R2 Datacenter GUI on all Nutanix 3460 all nodes instead of Windows core, can i do that? please suggest, I don't like working on powershell..
Anyone can assist on how to configure HA on Nutanix KVM host? whats tools needed? command ?
I have three protection domains, all containing VM's. All three have schedules set and I can see that local snapshots are being made. I have restored machines with no issues. All seems well, but I am getting "Backup Schedule" health warnings on all three PD's. Causes of failureNo backup schedule exists for protection domain protecting some entities. Backup schedule exists for protection domain not protecting any entity. Neither of the above suggestions is true. I can't seem to get this one to resolve. Is this a bug or is there something here I am missing?
Hello - Can someone reply with the complete power specifications for the Nutanix NX-6260 ( NX-6060 )? I know these have dual power supplies. Please provide the following at minimum: 1.) Voltage of each power supply - I think these are 208V Single Phase 2.) Amps per power supply 3.) Watts per powerr supply 4.) Power Cable Ends - Please confirm - I think these are C13/C14 for each power supply. We do not yet have the boxes so I need to prepare for the power requirements of these devices. I am looking at two of the Tripp-Lite PDU Basic 208V/240V 30A C13 10 Outlet L6-30P Horizontal 1U - MFG Part #: PDUH30HV Also wondering what others are using. Thank You. Sam
Sorry to have to post this, but can't find any documentation on how I actually enable EX-X? I am at 4.1.1.4 but upgrade if required. Just trying to figure out how to turn it on? Thanks, Erik
I login as root and password nutanix/4u. Once login : i am able to find the host ip which is on br0 network but i am unable to locate the cvm ip. Hypervisor : Acropolis Nutanix 6035C
