Hi All ,
I would like to know the way how can I move vm's from 1 nutanix block into other Nutanix block using vmotion .
- Each Nutanix block configured as a stand alone Nutanix Cluster
-2 Nutanix Block under same vmware DC and Cluster and managed by 1 vcenter.
but when I run vmtion for one virtual machine from vsphere client I could not choose the target nutanix storage.

Thanks

If you are trying to change hosts and storage at the same time (vMotion + Storage vMotion) the VM will need to be powered off to do so. Have you tried that yet?

Hi ,
unfortunitly vmotion through web vsphere didnt work as well !!!!
they send alink to follow for configureing whitelisting

https://portal.nutanix.com/#/page/kbs/details?targetId=kA0600000008SdpCAE

I followed this steps but I stucked with credential issue (didnt accepted the VMC credentials)

What didn't work well about the web client vMotion?

It's called "shared nothing vMotion" or xvMotion, and I've used it dozens and dozens of times with full success.

Did you get any sort of error?

What version of vSphere are you running?

Also, can you provide your ticket number, happy to take a look at that.

yea, you can do this all with the web client in vSphere 5.1 and 5.5, no need to power the VM off.

Hi Jon ,
the issue is not related to vmware features like "shared nothing vMotion" or xvMotion" normally can be done in normal vmware deployment ,but this because of Nutanix features that prevent expose the nutanix to external non Nutanix servers.
To comlete this task the provided link for whitlisting is the only way to move the VM's from one standalone Nutanix Cluster into other Nutanix Cluster (They could not see each other to move Vm's between)

If you are running vSphere 5.1, 5.5, or 6.0, you will always be able to do xvMotion / Shared Nothing in the following situations

1 - Nutanix to Nutanix (Two separate clusters)
2 - Non-Nutanix to Nutanix

As long as those environments meet the requirements for xvMotion / Shared Nothing (just in general, at an ESX level, vMotion enabled, networks are reachable, etc), then it works just fine. Nothing special about Nutanix there, and we don't prevent you from doing that at all.

To be clear, you should NEVER have to use whitelisting, if you are running ESX 5.1 or higher.

With ESX 5.0, obviously it doesn't have xvMotion, so whitelisting is the only way (or cold offline move).

Hi
I frequenty migrate VMs between VMware and Nutanix clusters though I use the thick client and not the VMWare web client. I even do this across datacenters across the world.

I have VMware 5.5
In Vcenter, I have 3 Datacenters. Each with multiple clusters that contain individual Nutanix clusters.

I only have Nutanix inthis specific vCenter instance. I am able to migrate from any datacenter to any host in my vCenter.
