Hello everyone, I have a question concerning the analysis tab on the Prism Element UI. To get started i will shortly explain what our current situation is: Last year we sold some Nutanix boxes to a customer. In this contract we also included monitor/management services. As an agreement, every month we schedule a meeting with our customer where we evaluate performance of the nutanix clusters. There are 3 main fields we focus on during the meeting; Cluster host usage, storage performance and storage usage. Hi, I would like to ask if Nutanix support replace SSD/HDD with different capacity. The reason I ask is that I want to keep the certain Hot Data ratio when data growth but without a growth on compute capacity. My concern is that if I just add the NX-6035C could allow me to growth my data, but the SSD may not enough for maintain the ratio of required Hot Data. Thanks.

Hi, I have a standalone ESX 5.1 server with a VM with multiple 2TB (screenshot from WinScp attached below) vmdk volumes. VM is Windows 2008 R2. My Nutanix cluster is running 5.01, NCC 3.0.0.2, AHV 20160925.30 - Starter Edition I am planning to use a Windows 2012 R2 server with WinSCP to get the vmdk files onto the Nutanix cluster container (I have multiple containers) and then use the Image service (via Chrome browser) to upload/convert via UNC to the container. Here are my questions: [list=1] [*]I'm wondering if there are any limitations on the Image Server when using the Chrome Browser [*]Any potential issues with these vmdk sizes? [*]What is the syntax for the URL to access the Storage Container so I can upload the vmdk without using the UNC? -Figure this one out. I'm wondering if anyone can explain why in a block that contains 12HDDs and 6SSDs (3-node block), only shows disk statistics for the SSDs and no values for the HDDs in the list (all metrics are 0). I can't figure out how to remove the Self-service Administrator rights from a user. In the self-service portal configuration, the account is under Users. I assume it needs to be removed from here, but I don't see any options to delete the user. Anyone have any suggestions?

Hi team, I have created a Protection Domain with one VM. I have setup a daily schedule with a retention policy of 5. When I look at the local snapshots, I shows me the last 5 snapshots that are available. This is the same when I tick the box "Include Expired". When I add up the reclaimable space for these 5 snapshots, the total comes to 143.72 MiB. When I look at the value of "Snapshot Exclusive Usage" for the PD, it tells me 492.48 MiB. Why the difference? On a related question: what is the impact on performance when deleting snapshots? I understand it is a background process, but is there any impact on the protected VM(s) when this is initiated or while it runs? The environment is running AOS 5.0.1. Thank you. Marc.

Our CVMs are configured with 32GB of dynamic memory. Start, minimum and max are all set to 32GB. I'm curious to know why Dynamic Memory is enabled on these VMs? Since the CVM's OS isn't fully Hyper-V integrated, we don't see memory demand from the hypervisor (this is the only benefit I see from leaving dynamic memory enabled on a VM with all values set the same). As an explicit downside, since we're using Dynamic Memory on these VMs, we lose the vNUMA featureset (not that a 32GB VM is [b][i]likely[/i] [/b]to benefit from it). Thanks!

Hey I'm a little confused by the Roles in self service portal. It looks like you can have only one role per Project. Is this true? If so, how would i go about giving only certain users ability to create VMs in a Project while having others being able to login and see the VMs in the same Project. Also, it looks like if one user creates a VM in a project then other users don't have the ability to see those VMs. The only way i've found to see all the VMs in one Project is if you happen to be a Cluster admin. Am I just missing something? Thanks!

Is there any chance of being able to use built in backup to work with Backblaze B2? Is there any feature request to have this done? It is much cheaper than Amazon or Azure.

Hi, Running 3 node Lenovo HX1310 with AHV 5.01. I will be opening a ticket with Nutanix support. This more of an FYI.... First saw this issue with and SBS 2011 Standard (aka Windows 2008 R2 x64). After migrating from Hyper-V 2012 R2. I was/am having issues where the system would freeze. I first thought it was ShadowProtect backups causing, but then it started happening late at night. I think its the WBengine Service (aka Block Level Backup). I setup a fresh test Windows 2008 R2 with 2 volumes, C: and E:. When I ran chkdsk on the c: drive it gets to the end, stage 3 of 3, and then the VM powers off. I have to start it manually. So I tried it on the E: that has no data is freshly formatted. I run chkdsk, and the VM powers off. Update:Just tried the same chkdsk /f on a Windows 2012R2 server and the same symptoms appear. Thanks in Advance, G

Is there a way to rename the CVM Container without rebuilding the container? The vendor who recently re-installed the Nutanix Block didn't follow the directions and named the container incorrectly. The container has 4 Virtual Servers running on them and I would like to preserve these systems without the need of rebuilding them. Could I place each VM in the Local NTNX-local-ds (SSD) datestore since the 50GB available is larger than each VM? Then Destroy the Container and Recreate it? Thanks,David

Hello, I am receiving the following alert: "Old generation AWS instance is configured for remote site AWS. Follow KB 3861 to change the instance type to m3.2xlarge and cloud CVM configuration for better RPO/RTO." The remote site was configured only about a week ago and it spun up an instance size of m2.2xlarge. I cannot find any reference to the KB article 3861, or anything about changing the instance size. I'm looking into backing up our Nutanix Acropolis cluster to either Azure or AWS. What I'm curious about are the actual costs once you factor in not just their basic storage rate, but Puts and data writes and everything that happens during a backup and restore (rare as those would be). We have around 5 TB total with all our VMs, with the daily snapshots averaging around 40GB in changed data. We would want to retain maybe a month's worth of backups with dailies and weeklies. Is this enough data to do a decent estimate, or is it one of those 'Try and see' scenarios? I'd be interested in anybody else that's utilizaing it as a remote backup site and what kinds of costs they're seeing. Thanks! Clint

If I add one additional node with 512 GB ram to my existing cluster which consisit of 3 nodes of 256 GB each, how N+1 will be calculated?

As a pre-step to a planned failover, I want to take a snapshot of each of my Metro PD's (4 total). Together, they are over 5 TB in used storage. Since they're all in the same Storage Pool I plan on doing one at a time so as to not compound the i/o load - does this make sense? Also, can anyone provide a *rough* estimate of how long a PD snapshot should take to complete? Thanks!

As far as I know, the only certified backup software is commvault... but I was wondering if AHV/prism can do vm-level backup and which are the features (guest/application consistency, possibility to file level restore ecc....) and differences compared to Commvault. Is it ok to install Nutanix Guest Tools in a guest vm template before the template is Sysprepped? I need to deploy a bunch of Server 2008 r2 VMs that will need NGT. I'm aware that it's easy to automate NGT install AFTER vm deployment and I do that for most cases; however on Server 2008 r2 builds there's a techinical limitation that prevents this from working. So I'm wondering if there is anything in NGT that will break if the vm is Sysprepped afterward.
