i  have a nutanix cluster  of node with (25gb ) uplink  and LACP is configured on it . i need to to expand cluster with nodes with ( 100GB ) uplink .

i prepared the new node with below configuration:

1-  re-imaged the new node with same version of AOS and AHV  as the existing cluster

2-  configured the  the new node with LACP

my questions:

1- is there any impact  to cluster that we mix speed of network as some node work with 25g and other with 100g ?

2-  in expand cluster steps the is tab of network configuration is mandatory to set its configuratiion or can skip this configuration as i configured on new node , what will happen if i skip network configuration during expand

3- how long the expand will take to expand 4 node ?

This is the information related to what you can and can’t mix with nodes mixing: https://portal.nutanix.com/page/documents/details?targetId=Hardware-Admin-Guide:har-node-mixing-r.html

You mention one node to four node, is this a robo setup or a full cluster with 3 nodes or more already present in the cluster?

Hi,
for using different NIC speed (in case your switch does support 100 G) then I dont think that is a good idea.but as far as I know for any purchase it will be confirmed with Nutanix sales team as well so I am sure they have thought of this point as well.

when you are doing the expansion, I suggest you do not skip the network validation as it will confirm the network and does a certain test as well just to ensure there is no duplication of IP , MAC address and etc.so my suggestion is do not skip it and it will add the new node to switch (again it is been a long time since I did my last foundation, but I think it will add it automatically).

hi @jamali.ahmad

in host networks setting  it required to assign the uplinks to br0 i already configured new node with LACP can it automatically assign uplinks of LACP or i must assign it  manually  and is it impact on the Lacp configuration of new node of cluster ?

Cluster expansion will add the new nodes to the existing virtual switch of the cluster. This means it will get the lacp config of the switch. Just add them and it will work.
