Hello everyone. We are deploying Nutanix for the first time using foundation v5.7 with 4node XC-660 servers and Dell S5224-ON top of rack switches.

Launching foundation, we are getting repeatable Failure:

"fatal: Running CVM Installer, Starting host installer"

Phoenix is installed on all servers but that is as far as the install gets. Any ideas?

We have a case open as well with Nutanix

Can the foundation vm talk to the BMC’s and to the IP’s you gave for AHV and CVM?

We are able to ping the CVM IPs but not the AHV IPs.

Im not sure where to look for the BMC communication or how we could verify that.

once the foundation is initiated, we find that Phoenix has been installed

So what foundation is doing. It will generate an ISO file for each node (in the iso the ip's for the nodes are added). It mounts the iso via bmc/impi/idrac/ilo/whatever and then start the node so it boots from that iso file. That is why foundation needs to have access to idrac (in you case). When the nodes boots the iso it will set the ip address you have given and contact the foundation machine via the ip you have given it (the cvm ip), to install ahv and aos (cvm). That is why the node ip's needs to be able to talk to the foundation vm as well.

Got the log file. I think the fix is pretty easy upgrade you foundation version to the latest version. In the logs you can see that foundation cant find a disk to place the CVM on. As the disks (in the node) aren’t on the HCL. The HCL being used is from okt 2024. So upgrade your foundation.
