While learning AHV I’m a bit confused on a few things as it relates to vStores and Remote Sites. What is the purpose of a vStore and how do they differ from Containers? What are the implications of mapping a Site-A’s vStore (Container-A) to Site-B’s vStore (Container-B) that has running VMs in it? What are the implications of not including all VMs from within Site-A’s Container-A in a Protection Domain and failing-over said PD to Site-B?      - Will the unprotected VMs from Container-A continue to run in Site-A?      - What happens when I fail-back the PD to Site-A? Let’s say I’ve mapped Container-A (Site-A) to Container-B (Site-B). If I create a Protection Domain that contains VMs from Container-A2 (Site-A), how does this factor into my vStore mappings between sites? Thanks for the assist!

Hello all,I’ve just finished the basic installation of a new 3 nodes Nutanix Cluster (NX-1065-G7 node). When i try to enter the IPMI password nothing happens. It seems the password is wrong. I have tried the default ADMIN/ADMIN password but it doesn’t worked (also admin/admin).Did the default password change with the release 5.15.x of AOS ?For information, the cluster has been created with the following parameters : AOS 5.15.2 Foundation VM 4.5.4.1 ESXi 6.7U3The “ipmitool user list” show me an “ADMIN” user with ID 2, so i think the account is correctly created. I ve tried on each of the 3 nodes and it’s still the same. So if the password set is ADMIN by default and is not working, can i safely change it with the ipmitool command ? Thx for your answers :)

Hi all We recently converted one of our environments to AHV/Acropolis from ESX/VCenter. All is well and runs just fine. One of the caveats is, we have a tertiary machine we use in “disaster” type scenarios and with this machine we would use our backup solution to “backup” a VM to and run with VMWare Workstation. As I understand it, Nutanix does not offer a “Workstation” type solution, so I am reaching out to hopefully receive some feedback on what a “new” solution would entail. Could I build a small PC and run Community edition on it? Can communtiy edition run on say an i9/32gb RAM/1TB ssd or does it need N+1 to function? This way I could point my backup solution to the new cluster or have my cluster be aware of a NAS solution and ingest the AHV VM as needed in these type scenarios. Any feedback will help me in the endeavor!

Does anyone have issues when trying to install NGT on a system that previously had it installed? I have tried to uninstall and reinstall to no avail. And trying to install/Upgrade via prism fails.

Getting this error when I try to use putty/plink for any ACLI-related command:bash: ACLI: command not foundDoesn't seem to matter what acli “command” i run, even just running “acli” by its self gives the same error. I am able to run commands like “hostname” etc using plink/putty on the CVM. Feel like im missing something very simple here.Example command:putty $cvmIP -l $username -pw $password “acli vm.disk_get $vmname disk_addr=scsi.0”

We are transferring vdisks from one Nutanix environment to another.  We are going from Euphrates 5.5.8 to Euphrates  5.9. The copy seems to work but then after a while (maybe 15 minutes) the files in the new environment disappear. We’ve tried this several times with the same results. One vDisk is around 26 GB and the other is 2 TB. Has anyone seen this and what is the problem and the solution?

I have a lot of virtual machines running with latest Debian 10 distribution (version 10.2 and next 10.5).When will be available Nutanix Guest Tools for this distribution? It’s a mess to receive warnings everyday with the message of NGT not installed in these machines.

We have to do a deployment of 5 HPE DX nodes with AHV as hypervisor. Is it mandatory to have the iLO ip address in the same subnet as CVM & Host ? If not then do we have to give 2 IP addresses to foundation VM ? Let me know if anything else is needed.

I'm looking for some advice.My company recently purchased a used 3460-G4. We're a professional services firm and we want to have it for our lab so we can stand up stuff like ERA, CALM, etc. and bang around on it. You know, lab stuff!We have been trying to Foundation (4.5.4.1 & 4.5.3.1) the block but I am running into a problem with Foundation failing when trying to mount the Phoenix image on the nodes. This is the scenario I have:We have a four node cluster running Hyper-V. We want to migrate/reload/replace with AHV. There is nothing on this cluster that needs to be preserved.I tried the Foundation Portable application, but it does not seem to discover the nodes. I suspect that is because they are neither bare-metal nor factory imaged at this point. (based on this article - https://portal.nutanix.com/page/documents/details?targetId=Field-Installation-Guide-v4_5:Field-Installation-Guide-v4_5)This is a “retail” cluster, so I do have support. I just don’t know if it’s appropriate to tie up a support engineer for the time it would take to reload a cluster. So I was hoping to at least get started on my own. I did some googling and searching here and the KB. But I suspect my search terms are either too broad or maybe even far too specific. All I get back is how to setup a brand new cluster. 

Hello! I’m pretty new to this Nutanix world. Have been dealing with standard server+storage for more than a decade. We have 2 clusters here, with 3 nodes in each site with metro availability. There are 3 protection domains active in each site (active) that are replicated to the other site (passive) and vice-versa.    Site1: Node1 - Node3 - Node5 PDs site1 (active): PROD_001, DEV_001, INFRA_001 PDs site1 (passive): PROD_002, DEV_002, INFRA_002   Site2: Node2 - Node4 - Node6 PDs site2 (active): PROD_002, DEV_002, INFRA_002 PDs site2 (passive): PROD_001, DEV_001, INFRA_001   In vCenter cluster configuration we obviously have affinity rules for VMs/Hosts in site1 and VMs/Hosts in site2, preventing the VMs running in “odd” nodes from being stored in “even” nodes. Sometimes we have to migrate VMs from one site to another. So we do a complete vmotion (compute and storage). After the migration, we start to constantly receive alerts with this message: Snapshot status for vstore INFRA_001: Faile

Recently, we upgraded AOS and AHV in a 6-NX-1065-G5 nodes cluster. Those nodes have only 1 Gbps interfaces and the upgrade process got stuck many times while actively moving guest VMS to other nodes when setting each node to maintenance mode. Tech support told us this happened because new AOS and AHV versions were designed to work at 10 Gbps, which we know is a best practice, but a hardware upgrade would be needed in our scenario then.Question: I´m guessing configuring the four uplink interfaces as Balance-SLB bond may help, having a total bandwidth of 4 Gbps in optimal conditions, Has anybody gone through this problem and applied this cure? Was it useful or… Not enough? Thanks in advance
