Nutanix Disaster Recovery

Looking to protect VMs running in production on Nutanix AHV to a DR site running Non-Nutanix VMware ESXi hardware. Currently VEEAM seems to only support “Instant Recovery” to vmware. Which seems to mean the VM is running from the backup file. I suppose at this point you could vmotion to permanent storage. Unfortunately there’s no way to know how slow this will be even if the backup repository was on the same san. Curious if there is any other backup software that makes this process a little more direct, or if anyone had expereince with this type of recovery. Thanks in advance.Currently looking at: CommVault; HYCU, scripting exporting and importing disk files, praying nothing ever breaks, crying.  

Our 5-node Nutanix Mine with Veeam is using the default 75% as the watchdog capacity.The Nutanix Mine administration guide mentions paramters associated with this:restart_jobs_threshold_percentcancel_jobs_threshold_percentstop_issuing_jobs_threshold_percentand advises customers should contact support if they wish to tweak these.My question is this: Which organisation’s support covers this? Veeam or Nutanix?

Using Nutanix API, I detached a disk from a VM by just specifying device_bus and device_index.  The disk was attached from a passthru external repository.  After detaching the disk, I tries to delete the external repository, I got the following response message from delete external repository API:"The external repository hsing-ahv-test-repo hosts some virtual disks that are still in use"I could not delete the external repository.  So, I deleted the VM, but still I could not delete the external repository. Any way to remove the virtual disk and delete the external repository?Thanks

Hello All,I have a concern about Failover test while using Async replication with On-premise Leap.For test purposes, Nutanix recommend to use a Test virtual Network that must be isolated from the Production Network. Is it a good option to create a virtual Network without any NIC bound for the test network ? Thanks.

I am aware that in snapshot entity details there is a column that tells you if the recovery status is “Recoverable”, but is this enough to be sure it will work if we use it? Also, what exactly happens if App Consistency is set as False?About recovery time, is it the same for every VM no matter the size of it? Or does it actually depend of how big/small the VM is? If the latter, is it possible to have an estimate recovery time?

Hi, We are looking for a solution to restore the VMs running on Nutanix AHV to a vSphere (SAN based) environment. I've heard that HYCU can do backups on ESXi non-nutanix, however is not clear if I can restore VMs running on AHV to ESXi non-Nutanix and vice-versa. If HYCU is not the answer, is there any other vendor that can achieve this goal? Nutanix AHV backup/DR to ESXi non-Nutanix. We need to run the VMs on ESXi non-Nutanix in case of Nutanix/Primary DC failure.

I need someone to light my bulb regarding data protection scenario I have in my mind. Currently we're migrating from NetApp/UCS ESX to Nutanix ESX and we uses Commvault as data protection. In addition to Commvault, we uses volume snapshot in NetApp for DR and fast recovery. This does not replicate to remote site however. In Nutanix, I have configured container for Prod and Dev/QA datastores. Prod datastore protected by Commvault intellisnap and keep two day worth of snapshots. DEV/QA datastore does not protected by Commvault due to licensing issue, we would like to use Nutanix data protection to have similar data protection like Prod datastore (2 day snapshots) . My question is, writing script to adding VMs automatically to data protection domain is the only way to go? Or any other suggestion?

Is it possible to have a replication with 30 minutes RPO, as Near Sync supports 1 to 15 min RPO and Async support >= 60 min. Is there any option by which we can have 30 minutes RPO.

I have a problem about Recover VM in Rubric. I have made several attempts to recover the vm.As additional info:1. How do I copy a snapshot configuration to a CD disk or laptop HD? Worse case scenario I lose the NTNX configuration so, I’ll need to reimage my NTNX from last good configuration. Please help...

We are running our data center on AHV and would like to store backups in the cloud. (preferably archive tier). What options do we have?  From my understanding, we can leverage the use of VTL’s in the form of AWS storage gateway or Starwind VTL to push our backups to the cloud, but since my knowledge of VTLs and cloud are minimal, I’m struggling to find how to accomplish this. Can someone point me towards articles that will guide me through this? Specifically, I’m not sure how to make that connection from Nutanix to a VTL or storage gateway. Would iSCSI be involved? Any help would be much appreciated! 

Hi, we are a IP Telephony company and we are looking for an option to have a better backup system on our servers.We currently have 2 servers running ESXi. One live server with all our VM for our clients and one backup server. Nutanix seems like a good option for us to be able to have a backup system always live and not having to boot up any VM manually.If I wanted to start using Nutanix what would you recommend as best practice for a switch from ESXi to Nutanix?I just started looking into Nutanix and it seems like a great option with all the redundancy and self healing feature. I was wondering where I can find prices for the OS or access to the technical support. I can’t find any option list of subscription or price range for their OS.

We have Nutanix 3 Node Cluster with ESXI 7 , I am planing for DR with Nutanix.What are the DR option available in Nutanix? Is it using VMWare SRM or Nutanix Protection Domain? what is the minimal RPO and RTO? is it possible realtime replication ?

At a customer we have a single Nutanix 3-nodes Cluster running like a charm for a few years. All virtual machines are snapshoted by Prism, 3 times a day, and then replicated to a remote backup site which is Microsoft Azure. In Azure we have then a CVM and some blob storage to store backup replicas.I’m currently wondering our possibilities if a severe outage occurs on the site hosting the physical cluster leading to the loss of the hardware.I know that we could order a new physical cluster and then retrieve the snapshots externalized to Azure to rebuild the infra, but it means that the infra is down for a few weeks (supply time, etc...).Is there a possibility to restore externalized snapshots directly to Microsoft Azure VMs?

On Nutanix cluster , our Oracle workloads are protected via Oralce Data guard. We are looking for some sort or block level replication solution to cut down the Oralce license cost for DR solutions.Does Nutanix or 3rd party application that work on Nutanix cluster  have any DR replication (block level) solution for Oracle and SQL server workloads with point in time recovery?I don’t think the protection domain is suitable for Database workloads. Please suggest DR replication solution available for VMs that runs Oracle/MSSQL database workloads.

I just want to know if there's a downtime on my Virtual Machines, for example my Main site have an outage then I have remote snapshots to DR site. The question is . . . is it automatically activated or powered ON my virtual machines inside on my remote snapshots or I need to manually activated or powered ON the virtual machines on my remote snapshots?

This is not the case with Nutanix DR options at all as each feature has a clear purpose and application. It all starts with an SLA. Understanding your disaster scenarios and the amount of data that you are ready to lose in the event of the disaster is the key to choosing a solution that is right for you. I’m new to Nutanix and we are using Prism Pro to move a VM from one 6.7 Vmware farm to another and back again. That works 100% but Veeam V11 can not see the VM once it is moved. It’s like the UUID is wrong but I have checked that and it is ok (same) Support are looking into this and are saying this is a unique case… surely this must be common? If there is no solution we will end up with the same VM added to the Veeam backup job, again and again… I have tried using TAGS and direct add to veeam…
