Make Disaster Recovery a Breeze

Hello,I’m using Commvault to back up our Nutanix file server cluster. I have a distributed share that is failing with the following error:4788 26ec 07/19 16:25:38 271 CTREE rebuild failed with error 652 (duplicate keys rejected and listed); sysiocod=0 4788 26ec 07/19 16:25:38 271 CTREE resumeAndRebuild: unable to rebuild indexAny ideas?
Hello all experts,I have some question about create/revert snapshot/recovery point of VM in AHV cluster:Can user (have permission to access cluster portal to clone VM, create recovery point) access and create recovery point by themselves? Can they revert/restore the snapshot/recovery point by them-self (the same as Hyper-V)? What if they request to do by themselves, what I need to do? Now I have admin permission but cannot revert, just can clone VM from recovery point.Thank you so much
I need to monitor Nutanix replication and one of the metrics is not having unprotected vms.Is there any way to list these VMs with nCLI or another command?
Can I mount NFS to store nutanix snapshot files? If so, how can I find the location of snapshot files.
Hello everyone,I started a new project in which we need to be prepared for a Disaster Recovery between 2 Nutanix clusters in different regions. I did the Data Protection from Prism Central just fine in the beginning, already have 8 VM with NearSync enabled with RPO of 15min. However, this new VM has been giving me trouble lately, giving me a RPO up to 3 hours because of the following issues: Warning : Snapshot Replication to Remote Site is Lagging.Warning : Snapshot queued for replications to remote siteWarning : Entity is being transitioned to a lower frequency snapshot schedule. To be fair this new VM is kinda big, with 10 cores, 50GB RAM, and 1.22 TB storage used. It’s for a high transactional MSSQL Server database.I am basically stuck deciding if this is a networking problem, or a workload capacity from Nutanix problem. We are supposedly using 200MBps LAN-to-LAN networking, with a 20ms latency. Should this be enough? On the other hand, I am looking in Nutanix’s Analysis section that
Hello everyone!I read on this blog about end-to-end encryption that encrypting all replication traffic between all AOS clusters participating in replication.I want to know about end-to-end encryption on DC-DR replication.Where can I see the full documentation about that (in what features and how do I configure it)?
We have VM which were deleted but we keep getting an error that veeam cannot make snapshot from. they seem to be under the protection domain and veeambackupprotection
I am configuring Leap on 2 remote clusters running AHV and I have performed the following :Deployed Prism Central on each cluster Enabled Nutanix Leap on each AZ Paired the 2 clusters successfully Created Protection Policies and replicated some VMs (it works properly as I am able to manually perform a restore on the target cluster)When creating a recovery plan, on network settings page, production and test failover subnets (for the remote site) are not shown and a message 'no options available' is displayed in the GUI.Please see below : Do you have an idea of what is wrong ? Is there anything missing ?Thanks.
I want to create a backup report that is sent to a specific email address everyday, which contains data protection status for the last 24 hours (both successful and failed).I have Prism Central, and have tried using the “Reports” feature. In that I have chosen a data table and configured it to show VMs in Data Protection. The report works, but I get no status about success or failed backups.I have also tried using the API, but cannot manage to get the info I want. How do you guys get backup reports/status? This is a requirement from our IT audit group, that we can show successful and/or failed backups every day.
We want to implement Nutanix Leap On premise between two clusters. The two cluster are installed on different locations (4km between the two sites). The two clusters are intented to be active, so each cluster must replicate VMs to each other (Cluster A → Cluster B and Cluster B → Cluster A)As per the documentation, we need an instance of Prism central on each site, which represents an Availability Zone. For easy management purposes, we want to be able to manage all the 2 clusters from a single pane of glass; is it possible to have a third Prism central instance to manage all these 2 clusters ?How this could be implemented?
Hello, I am seeing something odd that I don’t remember to be normal. I have an Async DR protection domain replicating from a 5.20 LTS AHV source cluster to a target STS 6.0.2.5 cluster. There are a decent amount of VM's being protected today and the snapshots are replicating, but the “entities” and “VM count” on the target cluster PD page show “0” - I don’t believe I have ever seen that before and can’t find a picture in my other documents. Is that normal? Could it be something between the versions where the target doesn’t show the VM entities that are part of the protection domain? Any help on the sanity check is appreciated. Thanks!
Hello Team,During the commvault back noticing below errors;curl-err:[No error] http-resp:[401] url:[https://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:xxxx/api/nutanix/v3/data/changed_regions] server-resp:[{"state": "ERROR", "code": 401, "message_list": [{"reason": "AUTHENTICATION_REQUIRED", "message": "Authentication required.", "details": "Basic realm=\"Intent Gateway Login Required\""}], "api_version": "3.1"}] resp-size:[209]Looks like CBT (change region) errors.Any comments/suggestions are welcomed!
Looking to protect VMs running in production on Nutanix AHV to a DR site running Non-Nutanix VMware ESXi hardware. Currently VEEAM seems to only support “Instant Recovery” to vmware. Which seems to mean the VM is running from the backup file. I suppose at this point you could vmotion to permanent storage. Unfortunately there’s no way to know how slow this will be even if the backup repository was on the same san. Curious if there is any other backup software that makes this process a little more direct, or if anyone had expereince with this type of recovery. Thanks in advance.Currently looking at: CommVault; HYCU, scripting exporting and importing disk files, praying nothing ever breaks, crying.
Our 5-node Nutanix Mine with Veeam is using the default 75% as the watchdog capacity. The Nutanix Mine administration guide mentions paramters associated with this:restart_jobs_threshold_percentcancel_jobs_threshold_percentstop_issuing_jobs_threshold_percentand advises customers should contact support if they wish to tweak these. My question is this: Which organisation’s support covers this? Veeam or Nutanix?
Using Nutanix API, I detached a disk from a VM by just specifying device_bus and device_index. The disk was attached from a passthru external repository. After detaching the disk, I tries to delete the external repository, I got the following response message from delete external repository API:"The external repository hsing-ahv-test-repo hosts some virtual disks that are still in use"I could not delete the external repository. So, I deleted the VM, but still I could not delete the external repository. Any way to remove the virtual disk and delete the external repository? Thanks
Hello All,I have a concern about Failover test while using Async replication with On-premise Leap. For test purposes, Nutanix recommend to use a Test virtual Network that must be isolated from the Production Network. Is it a good option to create a virtual Network without any NIC bound for the test network ? Thanks.
I am aware that in snapshot entity details there is a column that tells you if the recovery status is “Recoverable”, but is this enough to be sure it will work if we use it? Also, what exactly happens if App Consistency is set as False?About recovery time, is it the same for every VM no matter the size of it? Or does it actually depend of how big/small the VM is? If the latter, is it possible to have an estimate recovery time?
Hi EveryoneSince I upgraded My Nutanix Cluster to AOS 6.0.2.2, the Commvault Backups turns too slow, its takes much more time to finish and sometimes its failed.Someboby has an similar issue? If it yes, what to do to resolve it? Thank you so much.IVAN C. RICCI
Hi, We are looking for a solution to restore the VMs running on Nutanix AHV to a vSphere (SAN based) environment. I've heard that HYCU can do backups on ESXi non-nutanix, however is not clear if I can restore VMs running on AHV to ESXi non-Nutanix and vice-versa. If HYCU is not the answer, is there any other vendor that can achieve this goal? Nutanix AHV backup/DR to ESXi non-Nutanix. We need to run the VMs on ESXi non-Nutanix in case of Nutanix/Primary DC failure.
I need someone to light my bulb regarding data protection scenario I have in my mind. Currently we're migrating from NetApp/UCS ESX to Nutanix ESX and we uses Commvault as data protection. In addition to Commvault, we uses volume snapshot in NetApp for DR and fast recovery. This does not replicate to remote site however. In Nutanix, I have configured container for Prod and Dev/QA datastores. Prod datastore protected by Commvault intellisnap and keep two day worth of snapshots. DEV/QA datastore does not protected by Commvault due to licensing issue, we would like to use Nutanix data protection to have similar data protection like Prod datastore (2 day snapshots) . My question is, writing script to adding VMs automatically to data protection domain is the only way to go? Or any other suggestion?
Is it possible to have a replication with 30 minutes RPO, as Near Sync supports 1 to 15 min RPO and Async support >= 60 min. Is there any option by which we can have 30 minutes RPO.
I have a problem about Recover VM in Rubric. I have made several attempts to recover the vm.As additional info:1. The VM is in Nutanix, previously the SATA storage bus and has been converted to a SCSI storage bus2. Nutanix has been upgraded AOS version 5.20.1.1 LTS NCC version 4.2.0.2 Foundation version 5.0.4-ed564a883. RUBRIK has been upgraded to version 5.3.3-19316
I want to backup the Nutanix AHV VMs, ,but I dont’t kown how to get the list of changed data blocks. In this article (Nutanix 5.0 Features Overview (Beyond Marketing) – Part 2), I see the following:Nutanix CBT utilizes the new REST 3.0 API that can be used to query for the changed meta-data regions given any two snapshots of a virtual disk or virtual machine. The approach is valuable for taking incremental and differential backups; and even useful while taking full backups because the API identifies regions that are spare (zeroed), therefore saving on read operations. I read the api documentations (PRISM v2.0 and PRISM v3) carefully, But I don’t see find a useful api.Does anyone tell me which API to use how to use it?Thank you.
Hi, I just deployed my 2 clusters on separated Data Center. Right now i have no Link between them besides Internet (No VPN). Can i use NAT Destination of IP Public of each Data Center for the target of Remote Sites Configuration?Example:Data Center A : 123.234.123.234:2020 > NAT Destination to > 250.250.123.123:2020Data Center B : 234.123.234.123:2020 > NAT Destination to > 200.200.123.123:2020Can we configure like that in order to Remote Sites Configuration to work?
How do I copy a snapshot configuration to a CD disk or laptop HD? Worse case scenario I lose the NTNX configuration so, I’ll need to reimage my NTNX from last good configuration. Please help...
