Hello, I'm trying to create a File Server. I did this in Prism Element cluster. I have a problem when I had to select the Client Network PortGroup All my dvportgroup are not visible. I can only see the dvportgroup attached to a dvswitch with uplinks assigned. In my vCenter we have a dvswitch with no uplinks assigned. This dvswitch is used by my network sdn solution which transport the client network. Do you see a solution ? thanks
Stuck with this error. Please help out.
I am trying to make changes to the "extra_flags" option on a VM. I have 2 issues. Is there a way to remove and "extra_flag" added to a VM? Also is there a way to specify the CPU model. I see there is a way to do it in KVM, but not sure how it works in Nutanix. I am trying to do nested virtualization, but for some reason nested VMs don't boot due to the xsave/xsaveopt feature it seems. The host is quad SandyBridge CPUs, but it worked when I specified the CPU model as Westmere. Anyone else have this issue or have an idea of how to specify the features passed through?
Hello, I have a personal Lenovo Thinkserver, which has a 4 Seagate 2T Disk (3 of them are formed Raid 5) and 3 SSD (256G+128G*2). I don't want to lost my personal data. Is that possible to install the Community Edition on the specified Disk 256G SSD + 1 Seagate 2T HD for testing purpose?
Good morning - I reviewed a thread on the same topic from 2 years ago. I'm looking to see if TPM on the NX series (with AHV) is now supported. I'm seeing something in the support portal about installing the module on G6 nodes. Can someone confirm this? Thanks!
Hello All, I tried to install AOS 5.11.2 with foundation 4.5.1 but I faced from some issues. The system consists of 01 Bloc NX-3060-G4 with 04 nodes. The existing AOS version is 5.11.1 and the existing AHV version is 20170830.270. Please find below all the log output obtained from foundation process : ======================================================================== 20191218 03:02:38 DEBUG Setting state of <ImagingStepValidation(<NodeConfig(172.18.8.34) @2890>) @ef90> from PENDING to RUNNING 20191218 03:02:38 INFO Running <ImagingStepValidation(<NodeConfig(172.18.8.34) @2890>) @ef90> 20191218 03:09:40 DEBUG Cache HIT: key(<function common_validations at 0x380d7d0>_()_{'global_config': <foundation.config_manager.GlobalConfig object at 0x47ce150>}) 20191218 03:09:40 DEBUG Setting state of <ImagingStepValidation(<NodeConfig(172.18.8.34) @2890>) @ef90> from RUNNING to FINISHED 20191218 03:09:40 INFO Completed <ImagingStepValidatio
I'm looking to see if iDRAC 9 is supported by the latest Nutanix SCOM MP for Dell EMC XC Series.
By default, a virtual NIC on a guest VM operates in access mode. In this mode, the virtual NIC can send and receive traffic only over its own VLAN, which is the VLAN of the virtual network to which it is connected. A virtual NIC in trunk mode can send and receive traffic over any number of VLANs in addition to its own VLAN. You can trunk specific VLANs or trunk all VLANs. You can also convert a virtual NIC from the trunk mode to the access mode, in which case the virtual NIC reverts to sending and receiving traffic only over its own VLAN. Trunked NIC can only be added via acli. It is not possible to distinguish between Access and Trunked NIC modes in Prism UI. You can create new NIC for the VM to operate in a required mode or you can change the mode of an existing VM NIC. For the command list and sequence please rerfer to AHV Administration Guide: Configuring a Virtual NIC to Operate in Access or Trunk Mode
Hello everbody, is it correct that the standby containers (Metro Availability) are also mounted to their local hosts in Prism? Thanks for your support! Kind regards,
Well, we all know how important firmware upgrades are and it is done using our LCM framework. In case of single node clusters, we do have to do our firmware upgrades manually as LCM framework does not work on them. Here let’s take an example of doing BMC upgrades manually. It is always suggested to do BMC upgrades if any before the BIOS upgrades. I am attaching a link to a document below that describes the steps to do BMC upgrades manually. https://portal.nutanix.com/#/page/kbs/details?targetId=kA032000000988sCAA Hope the document is useful information.
I recently upgraded my CVMs from 16GB to 32GB. Normally I do this from the CLI but yesterday was curious to see if the command Configure CVM in Prism could handle it. The process ran forever and eventually the progress reached 83%. I came back from lunch (forgetting that I had started that process) and started on resolution of some other NCC check failures. At some point I stopped and started the cluster and it was at that moment that I thought about the CVM memory upgrade task. Prism showed it still at %83 in both Task List and Configure CVM progress bar but the VM view showed all three CVMs at 32GB. So my theory is that I jacked up the running Task List somehow??? Is there a way to "reset" the Task List to get rid of that hung task?
We currently have a 48 node hybrid cluster running our Horizon VDI environment with non persistent desktops. The biggest issue is Oulook and OST files. I'm not allowed to turn off cached mode, so I'm redirecting users OST files to network shares. We currently have about 2,600 users and I have those OST files spread across 7 servers. We brought in a consultant with more Nutanix experience than I have and it was suggested that we convert some nodes to all flash, and we would use Affinity Rules to pin these OST file servers to the AF nodes. Makes perfect sense to me based on Nutanix using localization for data. So we have purchased the correct drives to convert 8 nodes to all flash. Storage capacity is going to be almost a wash, I think we are going to drop about 10 TB out of our 200TB logical. I'm in the process of removing the first 4 nodes from the cluster so we can convert them and I got an error from Prism that's very concerning. I know this is a false positive today, but it's e
In certain instances, it may be necessary to change IP address of IPMI. This post explains how to achieve the outcome and where to look for help. Ther are three methods of configuring the IP address. In any case, there are only two simple steps: 1. Configure the IPMI IP addresses by using either the IPMI web interface or the hypervisor host command-line interface via one of the below: IPMI Web Interface Command Line (ipmitool - available on AHV and ESXi hypervisor hosts) BIOS For nodes from other hardware vendors, see the manufacturer instructions. 2. Log on to Controller VM on the same node in the cluster and restart Genesis service. For specific instructions, commands and examples see:NX Series Hardware Administration Guide: Changing an IPMI IP Address.KB-1486 [ESXi] How to re-configure IPMI using ipmitool - also includes instructions and examples on local user accounts management.
Dear all, Is that IPV6 need to enabled in failover cluster manager (Networks) after cluster created at Hyper -V Nutanix?
Let’s say you are installing Hyper-V and want to automate the networking configuration. We all love scripting and writing PowerShell cmdlets for different networking tasks like NIC teaming, switch configuration etc can get really complex. Do we have a cheat sheet which can help us with networking commands and workflows to configure a range of activities on PowerShell? Go through the KB to get a quick glance on the commands and workflow related to Hyper-V networking. KB-1553
Nutanix Cluster is comprised of several critical software and hardware components. All communication happens on a IP network. CVM - Controller Virtual Machine (AOS) Hypervisor - (AHV | ESXi | Hyper-V | XEN) IPMI - (Out of band management for the hosts) Each CVM communicates with its respective Hypervisor Host on a private IP network. Hosts and CVMs must be on the same subnet. Before proceeding with any network related changes, on the CVM or Hypervisor hosts, it is recommended to perform a cluster health check. Following Nutanix KB outlines the steps to ensure your Nutanix Cluster is in a healthy and consistent state: Checklist on verifying cluster health status To change the IP Addresses, Net-Mask (subnet mask), Default gateway for your AHV hosts due to hardware re-location, network design changes, please follow the guidance from AHV Advanced Administration Guide: CHANGING THE IP ADDRESS OF AN ACROPOLIS HOST Changing IPMI Address of a Hypervisor Host CHANGING THE CONTROLLER VM IP A
Nutanix best practices dictate that regular disk drives are configured on the SCSI bus, and CD-ROM drives are configured on the IDE bus. While regular disk drives can be configured on the IDE bus, it is possible that performance degradation may be observed on the drive due to the low queue depth on IDE controller. To avoid performance impact conversion of IDE to SCSI can be performed. Prior to modifying the IDE disk, take a local snapshot of the Guest VM, in case a roll-back is needed. It is strongly recommended that the VMs are powered off before performing the conversion. Convert the disk by cloning the IDE disk and attaching it to the SCSI bus. It is recommended to remove the old IDE disk after the cloned SCSI disk is created and validated. To help you identify any non CD-ROM IDE VM disks Nutanix has included NCC check uvm_ide_disk_check into NCC software package. This check is not scheduled to run on an interval and it does not generate an alert. Further on conversion steps, pre-

Attempting to upgrade AOS from 5.1.3.2 to 5.5.9.5, but the preupgrade steps fails after 5% and the reason for failure isn’t displayed. Is there somewhere I can go to get some details about why the preupgrade keeps failing at 5%? This is what is displayed after the failure: Thank you.
We added a couple of storage nodes to a modest 3-node cluster that was running out of disk space. The alerts about running out of storage, and not having enough for redundancy, are gone. A few months in, and every time I look in Prism, under Hardware, I see that the storage nodes' "Total Disk Usage" has not gone up very much. The compute nodes' disk usage is about 5-6 times as much as the storage nodes (and the compute nodes actually have more storage onboard than the storage nodes). I understand that Nutanix tries to keep a VM's storage on the same host that provides its compute resources (and the copy is sharded and spread out among other nodes). Is that why I am seeing so little utilisation of the new storage nodes in Prism?
Let's say we need to change the MAC Address of a VM we just created due to various reasons. licensing being one of themDoes Nutanix AHV provide you with a feature to set a static MAC Address or change the MAC address of a VM? Yes, we do have a feature to change the MAC address of the VM and assign another address. As of writing this article, the feature can only be achieved through acli and have some limitations and guidelines. Please check out the Knowledgebase article regarding the steps with the latest updates. KB-3670 Want to know more about AHV Networking? Try giving this KB a readKB-2090
Hello community, does anyone have advice on destroying cluster without CVM access? As you know, JAVA applet doesn’t allow you to reinitialize system because of existing cluster config. And, I don’t have access to CVM or Prism. Thank you, Dragan
Let’s say you have connected a third-party storage device to a Nutanix Environment and now wondering whether it’s recommended or not. Nutanix Architecture is designed specially keeping in mind local storage settings and configuring any third-party storage devices can cause some serious issues in your environment. There are two different situations that might occur Permanent Device Loss All Paths Down Want to know the issues in detail and how to identify them Check out the KB-8674 In brief, connecting third party storage devices to a Nutanix architecture is not recommended unless and until especially advised by a Nutanix Team for certain scenarios.
Let's say you have bought a new node(Yayy) and want to expand your cluster. Nutanix provides you with a GUI method to expand your cluster with ease and simplicity. Confused regarding the steps and the requirements before adding it to your cluster? Let's break down the queries to help you understand cluster expansion and the requirements in detail. When can you add the node in your cluster? If the node is physically present in the cluster network subnet, you can go ahead with cluster expansion. What should I check before cluster expansion? The cluster expansion process compares the AOS version on the existing and new nodes and performs any upgrades necessary for all nodes to have the same AOS version. What are the guidelines before proceeding with cluster expansion? What are the specific considerations I should keep in mind in case the hypervisor being AHV, Hyper-V or Esxi?
