IPV6 in failover cluster manager network

A common misconception is that Failover Clustering will cease to work if IPv6 is disabled. This is incorrect. The Failover Clustering release criterion includes functional validation in an IPv4-only environment.

failover clustering could work with or without IPv6.

but from the same page, the recommendation is not to disable it:

The recommendation for Failover Clustering and Windows in general, starting in 2008 RTM, is to not disable IPv6 for your Failover Clusters. The majority of the internal testing for Failover Clustering is done with IPv6 enabled. Therefore, having IPv6 enabled will result in the safest configuration for your production deployment.

I believe the same applies for later releases of Windows servers.

Basically it is totally a Microsoft requirement feature, a Nutanix cluster can add nodes to the cluster using “ncli” and IPv4.

@sbarab , the production hyper v Nutanix contains internal network and external network. Which one I should enable the IPV6?

@JeanW If you want to leave it on, definitely do so for external because that is being used by the failover cluster. The internal network is only for cvm to hypervisor communication. however, I think it wont hurt to have it on on both.
