Hi, I am considering Nutanix for our use-case. We have a HPe DL385 server with 2 L40S GPUs. I understand that Nutanix is supported by NVidia, which is an important plus. However, I am trying to install Nutanix on our server, and now see it requires 3 *physical* drives to operate. One for the Hypervisor, one for CVM and at least one for Data. As we only have 2 (RAID 1) NVME, and 1 Data drive, we cannot proceed installation. I am not looking forward to sacrifice an entire Data drive (3TB) to a CVM / Hypervisor of only 200 GB. However, the installation does not seem to understand partitions in a drive. Can you confirm that the Nutanix installation requires 2x *physical* drives to work? Or is there still a workaround to have it understand partitions? Thanks!
I have a difficult problem, and have no idea how to fix them. I installed Nuntaix CE on VMWare Workstation 17 Player, however when I enabled the CVM, there were two errors as below, please help me, if you have some methods to fix. Thank you very much
Howdy all. I’m trying to install Nutanix CE on a blade server to evaluate it as an alternative to VMWare. I keep getting this error when installing though, before being dropped to a root shell.NFO Phoenix ISO is already mountedNFO Picking the bundled hypervisor:/mnt/sum_installer/./install/ahu/kum_hostATAL An exception was raised: Traceback (most recent call last):File "./phoenix", line 152, in <module>main()File "./phoenix", line 87, in mainparams = gui.get_params (gui. How can I resolve this?
Good evening Nutanix’ers, After I configured an active-active bundle on my virtual switch in PE, and modifying my upstream switch with LACP, all seemed well. However, I noticed that the hypervisor rolling reboot never finished, and its been stuck at 90% for ~3 hours. When viewing incomplete tasks in ecli, I noticed that the virtual switch update and hypervisor rolling restore are both stuck at “kRunning.” Screenshot I am thinking about killing the rolling restart task, however doing so warns me that “Using this command can cause database corruption and complete system failure, if used improperly.” I admit that I may have not fully appreciated a step about maintenance mode when following this kb here for this specific configuration, so if I’m borked, then I’ll chalk it up to a learning experience. However, I’d like to see what my options are :). Despite all of this, I’ve confirmed LACP is negotiated, and the rest of the system seems normal despite the stuck task. What do you guys think?
I understand that the Witness service is now integrated with Prism Central in version 2024.1. Given this, if we still want to set up one Prism Central in Site A or Site B (within a Nutanix environment) while placing the Witness VM in a third site (Site C, which only has a VMware environment), is this setup possible? Thanks in advance!
Hi Nutanix Peeps, I am new in HCI technology and would like to seek your insights on how to configure native VLAN in the Nutanix Environment. The plan was to remove the default VLAN (Data Traffic) to all Cisco access switches therefore removing it will also require to configure new native VLAN in the trunk link between the switches and Nutanix Hosts. Any help would be pretty much appreciated. Thank you so much!
Hello,I am a newbie with Nutanix. Recently, at work, we acquired an NX-1065-G5 with 3 nodes. We currently have Nutanix Community Edition (CE) installed on an HP workstation with a 3-node cluster. We would like to migrate to the newly acquired NX-1065-G5. What would be the best way to approach this migration, and how does the Nutanix CE installation differ between the HP workstation and the NX-1065-G5?
Hi experts,I'm currently facing an issue with one of the nodes in my cluster. Recently, I noticed that a node was marked as "detached from the metadata store" in Prism, and one of its disks is also listed as detached. Prism shows the disk as "Ready to be added," but I'm unsure if the disk is healthy or needs replacement. When attempting to SSH into the affected CVM to verify the disk's status, I found that I'm unable to access the CVM via SSH, although I can still ping it. The other CVMs in the cluster are responding normally. I tried SSHing into the problematic CVM from another CVM in the cluster, but I received a message saying it's unable to connect. The cluster is running on an ESXi hypervisor. I also attempted to open the CVM from the Vcenter console, but nothing is displayed, the CVM doesn’t respond.Has anyone experienced a similar issue or has any advice on troubleshooting this problem? Your guidance would be greatly appreciated.Thank you!
Is there a centralized document that discusses where logs should be for specific processes through the cluster or is it broken down into each applications documentation?i.e. - I’m installing Prism Central and I want to watch the logging progress for the process that is running. One way I learn is to watch logs and see what the system is doing to try and understand flows but I can’t seem to figure out where exactly to look. Thanks
Hello, we are currently evaluating Nutanix as an alternative to esxi. To get some hands on experience with the product we wanted to install it on one of our lab servers. However, I was not able to start Nutanix after the installation. For Installation, I followed the following Youtube tutrial as well as the installation procedure mentioned on the Nutanix documentation. I keep always stuck on the step where the cluster needs to be started. After installing and booting into AOS, I first run the command `cluster --cluster_function_list="one_node_cluster" --svm_ips= (CVM IP) create` in order to create a single node cluster as mentioned in the video. After executing the command, I only see the following output: Waiting on 10.100.23.102 (Up, ZeusLeader) to start: SysStatCollector IkatProxy IkatControlPlane SSLTerminator SecureFileSync Medusa DynamicRingChanger Pithos InsightsDB Athena Mercury Mantle Stargate InsightsDataTransfer Ergon GoErgon Cerebro Chronos Curator Prism Hera CIM AlertMan
I am trying to upgrade an old Nutanix cluster managed by Prism Central. We have done the LCM upgrade and NCC upgrade, however when moving to PC it is failing the Preupgrade checks with the error ‘failed to untar /home/nutanix/software_downloads/prism_central/pc.2022.6.0.10 with ret 2 out err tar:/home/nutanix/software_uncompressed/nos/pc2022.6.0.10: Cannot open:No such file or directory’I can see the files get extracted into the software_uncompressed/nos/2022.6.0.10 folder but they are then getting automatuically deleted which leads me to think something is failing a hash check somewhere. The same happens with 2022.6.0.11. Any ideas on how I can resolve this to enable me to upgrade PC?
Hi Trying to install the Nutanix CE on my Dell R620 , I have 3 Drives , 1 SSD and 2x HDD First issue i had as the Nutanix installtion was seeying y SSD as HDD I fixed that by running the below command :lsblk -d -o name, rotaif it is 1 then it is HDD lsblk to identify the SSD if it is sdasudo sh -c 'echo 0 > /sys/block/sda/queue/rotational' Then the system recognise the SSD.I select SSD as C, and the other two HDD as H and D. Running the setup from a USB drive that was created using RUFUS.Installation proceed but then I get the below error: Fatal imaging thread hypervisor failed to with reason traceback most recent call last file "/root/phoenix/kvm.py line 112 in image self customizer cutomize.() file "/root/phoenix/customisze_kvm.py line 1304 in customize self.__mount_kvm_partitionfile "/root/phoenix/customise_kvm.py line 137 in ___mount kvm partition sysutil.get_ahv_root_dev self.stagefile "/root/phoenix/shell.py line 53 in shell_cmd raise standarderror Standard error : failed com
I have an old cluster of 4 NX-8035 nodes running AHV used for testing purposes. The LCM update is failing with sata_dom_wearout_check. Is there anyway to skip that check when running LCM updates? This is old hardware and I wont be replacing any parts, just want to get updates to run.
Thank you in advance for any advice. I have checked some other threads but I cant really get a concrete answer. I was looking through the hardware recommendations on this page: https://portal.nutanix.com/page/documents/details?targetId=Nutanix-Community-Edition-Getting-Started-v2_0:top-sysreqs-ce-r.html and it makes it seem that a CE node requires an HDD. Im envisioning building a three node cluster, each node with the same storage layout, all flash:Boot device: 1x 250GB SSDStorage device, hot tier: 2x 2TB SSDStorage device, cold tier: nothing This would comply with the ‘maximum number of SSD/HDD drives per node is 4’ instruction. I dont want to have any HDDs in the installation. Is the drive layout I presented viable? Cheers!
Hi, We’re trying to run a POC initially on hardware that has a ASMB IPMI, this appears not supported for foundation deployment. We’re a bit confused about what we do as the documentation for ipmi-less installations isn’t really clear - any help would be greatly appreciated as its stopping us from doing any initial POC testing. We’ve tried multiple routes to install AHV/AOS but all seem to be falling flat at the moment.Foundation VM is unable to deploy to the IMPI targets, gives the Incompatible error. Does not auto discover targets, IPMI is a ASMB9-iKVM Attempts to manually create ISO on VBOX VM not successful, ISO is created by VM but unable to boot stating a kernel error. Tried multiple attempts at ISO and burning in different ways but no luck at all.
In the past, we have built clusters with metro sync (AHV) at 2 Locations and a 3rd for witness.Customers want to get an infrastructure what can tolerate the loss of one Location. Can we stretch a 3 node Cluster across all 3 Locations, one node in one Location?RTT is less than 5ms.In this case, what network topology is required?
Hi TeamI had a complete working setup of Nutanix Community Edition along with Prism Central deployed. I was able to access my prism central through UI and Rest API for working with virtual machines. But suddenly i was disconnected from my PCVM today morning and was not able to access anymore. I tried to do ssh and logged in through PC UI but I couldn’t. I am able to log into both my AHV VM and CVM. In CVM, cluster status is showing all services are up and running.Referred this KB article but no luck.https://portal.nutanix.com/page/documents/kbs/details?targetId=kA00e000000CpzXCASCan you please help me here. Hi,while I want to setup my first Nutanic CE i get this ERROR message. I anyone know how I can solve this problem?
I completed a CE 2.0 install, I can access AHV and CVM from console, but not from the outside network. Do I need to modify iptables or do something specific with the bridge or vswitch? This is a single cluster on an hp dl380 gen9, I am only using 1 nic and my node is on vlan 20 with IPs 10.1.20.20 and 10.1.20.21 for AHV and CVM in my test lab. I have not set vlans on ahv or cvm. If i plug my laptop into vlan 20, I can’t ping or ssh to ahv or cvm. Any help would be appreciated.
I have been working with an HP DL380 Gen9 and have been having issues. I can complete the initial install of CE 2.0 from a USB image, but on the next boot I get the grub rescue screen.I have set the Smart Array to HBA, I have tried all manor of HDD/SSD options and have simplified the install with 2 Crucial MX500 1 TB SSD’s. I have even bypassed the p440ar card and SAS extender and plugged into the SATA connectors on board. I am installing to a 32GB SD Card. I have tried USB 3.0 device installs and changing brands of SD Cards and USB sticks both for install media and boot devices. I have reset the configuration on the machine multiple times. I have set boot mode to legacy BIOS and have unchecked single cluster install. All drives are visible in the installer. There are no timeouts our errors during the install. If I attempt to repair and ls (hd0,mdos1)/boot or any sub directories I get an attempt to read or write outside of partition error. (hd0,msdos1) is the only partition readable. I’
Hi TeamI am trying to deploy a VM in my Nutanix cluster. I am invoking this API https://{PRISM_CENTRAL_IP}:9440/api/nutanix/v3/vms from my powershell script with the desired body. I am using a vmdk image for creating VM and my requirement is that once the VM will turned on it should start my application. In order to start the application I need some user provided custom data. While creating the VM I am passing custom data as part of guest_customization section of the payload. I want to access this information inside the VM while start up.Please let me know how I can read the user provided custom data inside the VM. If I am passing the custom data in a wrong place, then let me know how to pass the custom data while creating VM.I am curious to know if any solution is provided by Nutanix similar to AWS/GCP where we were invoking a specific endpoint (ex GCP - http://169.254.169.254/computeMetadata/v1/instance/attributes/user-data) to get the metadata.Attaching the whole payload for referen
I am using Foundations for Windows, cabled directly into switch, deploying to new Dell R630s bare metal, same subnet. I go through the wizard fine, IPMI credentials are verified, iDRAC works fine, IMPI over LAN enabled. The install fails with the above Exception. I can post more logs if desired.I have:- turned off Windows Firewall- updated host firmware- ran the Foundations program as an Administrator in Windows- verified physical connectivityThe complete error message is:Exception: Imaging <bmc_utils._remote_boot_idrac.RemoteBootIdrac8 object at 0x000001C3A99CDFA0> requires USERSPACE_NFS feature, try run foundation with root/administrator.Google did not turn up anything with this. Any suggestions?
The system ran the installation but when the reboot started to finish setup it required a username and password but nothing seems to be working. Any help to resolve this would be helpful.
