NC2 Cluster Creation on Azure

Hi, Use Case: I have a POC account on which I want to launch a NC2 cluster using my Azure account. Problem Statement: I am able to create an azure cloud account successfully but when I try to create a cluster, it does not let me use my azure account and depicts that my aws trial account is still active. Question: How can I activate Azure trial license in my POC account? Can I use my azure trial license if I have already used AWS trial?

log rotation

I checked the log rotation interval for CVM and Prism Central in the manual, but I couldn't find any information. With the default settings, how often are logs rotated, and how many generations of data are retained?

Announcement: New Feature - Configuring a Palo Alto Networks VM-Series NGFW on Nutanix Cloud Cluster (NC2) on AWS as Your Firewall

We are excited to announce a new feature that allows you to configure the User VM (UVM) as the default gateway for NC2 on AWS subnets. This eliminates the need for an EC2 instance to perform the gateway function, allowing you to use the existing bare-metal that you're already paying for with NC2. It also provides better security by forcing traffic to the gateway device without needing to change the local gateway on guest devices. This means there is no way to circumvent the firewall/gateway device. The AWS Gateway implementation doesn't allow for just adding an NC2 VM as a gateway and carrying on. By default, the AWS gateway is .1 for each subnet, and routing changes require an AWS resource to configure routing. For example, using an EC2 instance, you would have to add AWS ENIs to your firewall/VPN to edit any traffic flows. You can see this in step 3 of this guide by Palo Alto. With this new feature, a Nutanix Cluster can assign an AWS ENI to the NIC of an NC2 VM. In my example, I am

Azure Entra ID Authenticaiton with NC2 VM running Oracle 8.9

Our company is just starting on on our Nutanix journey, we are currently deployed in NC2 and have setup Oracle 8.9 VMs on AHV. We have setup the Entra ID integration to the Nutanix Console, but we were looking to setup user authentication to log in to the local Oracle Linux 8.9 servers, but have not been able to find a runbook on how to do this if it is possible. Can you integrate Azure Entra ID with a AHV VM that is running on NC2? The bare metal is running in EastUS. Any assistance or direction would be greatly appreciated.

PS NX-3460-G6

Hi everyone, I have an NX-3460-G6 that was turned off yesterday by accidentally unplugging the power cables. I tried to turn it back on, but the power supplies (PSU) have green LEDs flashing (the other LED is off). Now from the documentation I see that it could be one of two causes: 1) "When AC is present only: 12VSB on (PS off) of PS in sleep state (the LED should flash at i Hz). 2) Power supply firmware updating mode (the LED should flash at 2 Hz).

Storage and cloud queries

Hi Team, I need clarifications on the below two points. If there is a requirement to create storage container capacity usable space as 1TB, which means is to create 2TB as the advertised capacity in Rf2 based container? If I create 100GB disk in RF2 container, the unique data is only 50 GB ? What are the on-prem requirements to build NC2 on azure ?

Experience converting AHV VM to EC2 instance in AWS sought

the druva backup tool will do a backup of ahv vms into their cloud storage. but they dont yet convert them into an ec2 instance for a DR solution. trying to find a way get a DR type result.

Nutanix on Azure bare metal pricing

Hi Team I was looking for Nutanix on Azure solution for one of my customers and came across the Azure bare metal cost, I cannot see the Nutanix SKU on the Azure calculator and I want to capture the price for that with and without reservation. AN36P Config: 36 cores, 768 GiB Memory, 1.5 TB low-latency NVMe SSD, 19.2 TB NVMe SSD * is this cost managed and paid directly to Microsoft or through Nutanix ?

Hi Team, We are trying to migrate the Nutanix VMs to GCP cloud. We came to know about the SureEdge tool supported by Nutanix. Currently, We are using community edition of Nutanix, can we get trial version of SureEdge tool to test the migration of VMs. If there are any other tools supported, Please let us know.

vSphere 8 support - October

The last comment was that the support for vSphere 8 would be released in the next upgrade and that was four months ago. Can we get an update? We are telling customers they can’t migrate to 8 which is causing customers to look at other directions.

NC2 Azure - Networking Flows between On-premises and Azure

Prism Central in Azure provides the control plane for Flow Virtual Networking. The subnet for Prism Central is delegated to Microsoft.BareMetal/AzureHostedService, so you can use native Azure networking to distribute IP addresses for Prism Central. Once you deploy Prism Central, the Flow Virtual Networking Gateway (FGW) VM deploys into the same VNet that Prism Central uses. The FGW allows communication between the guest VMs using the VPCs and the native Azure services. Using the FGW, guest VMs have parity with native Azure VMs for elements such as: User-defined routes: You can create custom or user-defined (static) routes in Azure to override Azure’s default system routes or to add routes to a subnet’s route table. In Azure, you create a route table, then associate the route table to zero or more virtual network subnets. Azure Networking Just Got A Little Easier with AOS 6.7 - Flow Gatway HA Deep Dive

Flow Virtual Networking Gateway VM High Availability When you initially deploy your first cluster, you can create two to four FGW VMs vs only one prior. The resiliency change is a big deal but getting traffic in and out of the cluster became a lot easier for Azure/Nutanix admins. The addition of the Azure Route servers along with the deployment of BGP VMS means that User Defined routes don’t need to be created. Anytime manual operations can be removed from a design, it means a win for the customer. Prior to AOS 6.7, if you deployed only one gateway VM, the NC2 portal redeployed a new FGW VM with an identical configuration when it detected that the original VM was down. Because this process invoked various Azure APIs, it took about 5 minutes before the new FGW VM was ready to forward traffic, which affected the north-south traffic flow. To reduce this downtime, NC2 on Azure uses an active-active configuration. This setup provides a flexible scale-out configuration when you need more tra

NC2 on AWS - Greater Native Control Over Your Environment With Custom Security Groups

AOS 6.7 has added more options for securing your cluster in AWS. We will take a look at the existing options and dive into the new feaure in AOS 6.7. You can use AWS security groups and network access control lists to secure your cluster relative to other AWS or on-premises resources. Nutanix automatically creates three security groups to limit traffic to the cluster: Internal management: Allows all internal traffic between all CVMs and all AHV hosts (EC2 bare-metal hosts). Don’t edit this group without approval from Nutanix Support. User management: Allows users to access Prism Element and some other services running on the CVM. UVM: Allows UVMs to talk to each other. By default, all UVMs on all subnets can talk to each other, but you can edit the policy to lock down more traffic. You could alternatively use Flow Network Security to prevent east-west traffic. With AWS security groups, you can limit access to the AWS CVMs, AHV host, and UVMs only from your on-premises management networ

Traffic Flow in Azure extended to a private datacenter with a Layer 2 stretched Network

Hybrid Cloud extended network between Azure and private datacenter This is just one possible scenario that you could use create a Layer 2 stretch network in your hybrid cloud environment. The goal is to understand this scenario and to have a place to ask questions. The plan is to introduce additional scenarios to drive understanding. This scenario is using AOS 6.6. The scenario will mostly likely change with newer AOS releases. We have an Azure environment on the top the below diagram and private datacenter below the Azure environment. Storage Container Recommendation

Hi, New to Nutanix. Setting up our new Nutanix cluster that will run VMware as the hypervisor. Is it recommended to create 1 storage container that utilizes all storage capacity for all VMs (150) to reside? I am use to creating multiple datastores in a traditional 3 tier architecture, but i know a lot of those practices go away with hyperconverged. The main reason I ask is that although we have no plans at this point to use other Nutanix services such as Files or Database, I don’t want to be in a position if I create a storage container for VMware VM’s and assign it all of the capacity and then find out later that I cannot use Nutanix Files because all space was initially given to VMware. Any recommendations or best practices you can share to ensure I don’t shoot myself in the foot? Thanks

Don't Control the Network? No Problem. Nutanix Native DR Encryption to The Rescue

Stop the Man in the Middle Attacks. Whether you're replicating to the cloud or to a remote branch site you may not control the networking stack and to end. When you don't control the networking stack end to end or you're in an environment that simply doesn't have a firewall you can use Nutanix Native DR encryption between your Nutanix clusters. The feature is fully supported for both PD and Nutanix DR(PC) based replication.Changes will persistent after reboots of the CVMs and upon upgrades. AOS needs to be on 6.1 or higher.
