Hi Everyone, Just throwing this out there and was wondering how others have experienced this.We use VEEAM as our backup solution and were having some issues trying to move from ESXI to AHV. Every time we started a move using Nutanix Move we’d have an error about CBT not being enabled. Our resolution? Disabling CBT (yes disabling not enabling) using the following PowerCLI script! After we ran the script the move completes succesfully! (Make sure to run it before creating your migration plan)No clue if anyone has the same issues as us but if you do this might be a solution!Import-Module VCF.PowerCLIConnect-VIServer -Server YOUR.VCSA.SERVER$vm="YOUR.VM.NAME"$vmtest = Get-vm $vm| get-view$vmConfigSpec = New-Object VMware.Vim.VirtualMachineConfigSpec$vmConfigSpec.changeTrackingEnabled = $false$vmtest.reconfigVM($vmConfigSpec) Regards,Westy WeijtsDen Hartogh Logistics
Hi Folks,am updating my script for creating a snapshot and store in file device am currently using V3 prism central APIs and want to migrate to use V4 APIS. someone help me with the sample response of APIS in V3 and V4 for List VMS.V4: https://{pc-ip}:9440/api/vmm/v4.1/ahv/config/vmsV2 prism element: $CLUSTER/PrismGateway/services/rest/v2.0/vms → am using this currently. any dummy VM response is fine just want to estimate the changes and complexity.
Hello Team,While deploying the cluster using Foundation Tool, is there any way to provide pre-reserved CVM names anywhere before initiating the cluster build process through this tool?If not, how can change the name of CVM (inside OS) after cluster got built? How much risky is this process? You feedback/help in this matter will be highly appreciated. -Anil
Hello, I have installed a 2 Node cluster using nutanix foundation VM with witness node as a tie breaker in dell xc4510 and everything is running fine. I have created multiple production VM. I have an another host with same hardware configuration and want to convert 2 node to 3 node cluster. I want to know the best procedure to achieve this.
HiAs you know Windows server 2003 is not officialy supported with AHV or MOVE but using the following link I was able to migrate a VM with Windows Server 2003 from an old vCenter to a new AHV cluster. https://www.vmwaremine.com/2019/01/24/migrate-windows-2003-x86-to-nutanix-ahv/#sthash.8hpeCflP.T3i44mTW.dpbsThat being said, after migrating it thw VM works fine but I have a question regarding VMware tools and Nutanix Guest tools. 1. Is it mandatory to remove the VMware tools from the migrated VM or is it just a “aesthetic” matter?2. Is it mandaroty to install Nutanix Guest Tools? I mention this cause I wasnt able do to this error when loading the NGT CDROM ISO: Thanks
Hi, we are new Nutanix customers coming from VMWare. I’ve migrated about 450 VM’s over and everything is going smoothly, however when it comes to Linux appliances I have some questions. On VMWare, vendors would send us an OVA which included VMWare tools baked into the appliance. I’m noticing that vendors who supply QCOW2’s, or even OVA’s if they don’t have a QCOW2 file, don’t have NGT baked into the image. When I ask the vendor how to install NGT, they say it’s not supported, even though on VMWare, they had VMWare tools supported. Is it typical for vendor linux appliances to not support NGT? How do I get VSS working on these appliances with NGT so that my backup solution can take app-consistent snapshots? Also, I hate looking in PC and seeing VM’s without any OS because NGT isn’t installed.
HiI have a customer with two VMware clusters, each one located in a different site (two separate buildings). I need to replace both environments with two Nutanix AHV clusters configured with Metro Availability (active-active).As part of the project, I must migrate the VMs from both VMware vCenters to the new AHV clusters using Nutanix MOVE. The AHV clusters have been sized so that either cluster can host the full workload, so the migration order is not a problem. However, physical rack space is an issue: Site A has enough rack space to install the new Nutanix nodes. Site B does not have space until the old VMware hosts are removed. Because of that, I’m considering different ways to sequence the work, and I’m not sure which approach is better. From what I understand, I should be able to enable Metro Availability either before or after migrating the VMs, and AHV Metro Availability can be enabled even when VMs are already running on both clusters. If that assumption is correct, these are
Hello evb,in a 3-host Nutanix Cluster (AOS 6.10,1 and AHV v.20230302.103003) I have one of the 3 hosts with the [/var] filled up at 92% (2.5GB on 2.9GB)The cluster is up’n’running and was OK until this warning raised by the ncc checks (v 5.1.0)Most of the space is used by:6565632 /var/log4502260 /var/log/sa2546588 /var/lib2406748 /var/lib/puppet2406072 /var/lib/puppet/reports2241772 /var/lib/puppet/reports/HOSTNAMEIn the last dir I have more than 90K [.YAML] files (of about 20KB each and created every 2 or 3 minutes, starting from the first host setup), while in the other 2 hosts I have only 14 [.yaml] files.File names are in the form yyyymmddhhmm.yamlWhat are they used for?Is it safe to delete the oldest ones?TIAPaolo
I have a 3 node cluster running 7.3.1 and while updating LCM complained that it cannot update NICs but I need to do manually listing KB-10634. I downloaded the x722 0x800042eb update file, executed and failed at the last minute and after the update both NICs are disappeared. I spoke with Supermicro and they are not willing to do anything because the motherboard serial is more than 5 years old and OOW. But one of the Tech advised me to program this chip (AT45DB041E-SSHN) with the 722M4B.bin file at my own risk and discretion, which I did, but nothing changed. nvmupdate64e just cannot see/find these two NICs.So what I tried next was to copy the above chip content from the second good known server and programmed the corrupted chip, but still nothing changed. The good new is that I can still install and use the latest AOS with a PCIE add on X550 card and the server works fine. But, I still would like to get those 2 x722 onboard NICs back and I really appreciate your help regarding this and
Hi,I have a customer with a standalone ESXi host running a few VMs. All backups are currently performed using Acronis Backup.I need to replace this ESXi host with a new Nutanix AHV standalone cluster, and I'm concerned about Acronis compatibility with AHV.As far as I know, Acronis requires an agent to be installed inside each VM that needs to be backed up. If I migrate these VMs from ESXi to AHV, will this affect Acronis Backup in any way? Is there any incompatibility between Acronis and Nutanix AHV?When checking the Nutanix Compatibility Matrix and the Acronis documentation, I see that the Nutanix “Data Protector” option is only supported on AHV versions 6.8.1 and earlier. However, I’m not sure whether “Data Protector” is required at all for Acronis to back up VMs running on AHV, considering that Acronis uses in-guest agents. Here is the Acronis documentation for reference: Supported virtualization platformsCan someone clarify this? Thanks.
HiI've deployed a Nutanix Cluster AHV in a dark site. Im having the issue exactly described here:https://next.nutanix.com/installation-configuration-23/prism-central-stuck-at-76-vm-is-not-reachable-42437?tid=42437&fid=23 But the topic was closed without any solution so I have to search for it… In summary:After deploying the cluster I tried to deploy the Prism Central with no luck, it got stucked at 76%... AOS 7.3.1 + PC 7.3.1 The PC VM intially startas and answer by ping, however it is automaticaly restarted during the config process and it loses the net config so it gets unaccesible by lan When checking the Prism Element tasks, I see the Application Deployment task stuck atl 76 %. If I open the PC VM console to check its status I can see that it stuck on the OS boot and I can see several services such as auditd, ntpd, rsyslog, rc.localhowever it doesnt show the login prompt. If I manualy boot the VM it boots normaly (it shows the login prompt), but there is no lan configur
Hello everyone, I have a problem with my new created 4-nodes AHV cluster. in my prism element I can no longer see the two nodes ( disconnected), and the default vswitch (vs0) are gone too and can’t recreat it.
I would like to attempt PCIe passthrough of a QLogic 2662 Fiber HBA to my Windows Server 2025 Nutanix Virtual Machine so that the device shows up in device manager, but I am unable to find clear documentation on PCIe passthrough.
HiWhen I start a VM on my Nutanix server I never get display output. Why is that the case or what am I doing wrong?
I am trying to create windows 11 on AOS 6.5.1 with AHV 20230302.101026 but failing with this error.
In the link below I read:"AHV lets you configure vCPUs (equivalent to CPU sockets) and cores per vCPU (equivalent to CPU cores) for each VM. We recommend first increasing the number of vCPUs when a VM needs more than one CPU, rather than increasing the cores per vCPU. For example, if a guest VM requires four CPUs, use four vCPUs with one core per vCPU."From my own experience, performance tests, and NUMA recommendations, I know that you should usually increase cores per CPU first. When you reach the physical cores per socket, then add a second socket. Can someone familiar with the deep architecture of AHV explain why we see that recommendation? I do not believe that an 8-vCPU VM configured as 2 sockets with 4 cores each will perform better than 1 socket with 8 cores.https://portal.nutanix.com/page/documents/solutions/details?targetId=BP-2029-AHV:nutanix-ahv-cpu-configuration.html

I has install new Nutanix CE cluster, but in proceeds of installation i has lost connection.Whan cluster was installed i has check it and see these situation:One of node is not resolved, and show only IP.I has check CVMs VM in Prism Element and see this:Only 2 CVMs of 3.What i run cluster status from CVM 192.168.1.112, i see that all services is UP When i check network configuration i see this situation:And in switch configuration:All DNS records is fine. How can i register and add CVM into current cluster or what i can do to fix it?Please help with this situation.
Good afternoon. After running the NCC check, I received an error message:However, there are no errors on the disks themselves that formed the MD2 partition. There are also no hardware issues, I checked both in Nutanix and in the XCC.Is it possible to fix this problem using standard Linux tools? Here's a plan, might it work:Unmount the Partition: >umount /homeRun Filesystem Check (fsck): >fsck.ext4 -v -f /dev/md2Reboot and Remount: >mount /home
Since now 5 years i’m seeing requests for a drag n drop and/or copy paste function to be enable, all software around the are able to do it , could you please provide any valuable reason to not add this functionality to the console? I hope that you will not lose customers for a copy/paste function in the future.
Hi all, I am sometimes really wondering what programmers think when they implement features which work fundamentally different than on other similar software and are seemingly half baked. This time around templates. I would really like to know the number of templates rendered unusable because someone accidentally deleted the protection point used as base for the template, because of lack of better knowledge (ah we already deleted this VM and gone) or any visible guard rails. The expectation would be templates = (multiple) immutable images + settings. Regards
Hi all, Is creating a new image from for ex. a VMDK uploaded to an ADFS container via allow/whitelist still a thing as described in KB-2622? Uploading the image works without issues, but creating an AHV image via the AHV Image Service from the disk already located on the very same Prism Element cluster apparently not.All reference I found online was that source_url=nfs://127.0.0.1/<container>/foo.vmdk isn’t supposed to work anymore for security reasons (see KB-14160). In the KB it says to use a CVM IP instead. I however get the very same message on any of the CVM IPs as well:foo-disk-import: InvalidArgument: Address <Any CVM IP> is not supported as Remote HostAdding CVMs or AHVs IPs to the allowlist doesn’t make any difference - it just won’t work.Using acli image.create or Prism Element UI also doesn’t make a difference. Hello guys,I found this topic https://next.nutanix.com/ahv-virtualization-27/ssh-public-key-is-removed-from-esxi-18675 from @mstauder and have exactly the same issue.Since... like ever… 2022..I opened a FEAT-13832 request, but I don’t know how to check it.Nutanix need only to add a second and unmanaged authorized_keys file…Or add ssh-key define in the prism element to the ESXi … Don’t you all need this guys?
HiI now plan to have NCX so need to which course help me to facilitate the large part of the exam
Hi Colleagues,I am trying to collect operating system information for all virtual machines through the Nutanix Prism Central v3 API.I’m using the following API endpoints: POST /api/nutanix/v3/vms/list to retrieve VM UUIDs GET /api/nutanix/v3/vms/{uuid} to check detailed metadata per VM However, in all cases, the OS information fields (e.g. guest_tools.guest_os_version, guest_info.operating_system, runtime_os, etc.) are returning null or “Unknown”, even for VMs that have Nutanix Guest Tools (NGT) installed and are visible in the Prism UI with proper OS details.Steps I’ve taken: Verified that NGT is installed and running on the VMs. Queried both /vms/list and /vms/{uuid} API endpoints. Tried multiple fields including: .status.resources.guest_tools.guest_os_version .status.resources.guest_info.operating_system .status.resources.agented_info.guest_os_name .spec.resources.guest_os_id All these fields return null via API, but Prism UI shows correct OS information.
