Windows 11 support for AOS 6.5.1 with AHV 20230302.101026

I am trying to create windows 11 on AOS 6.5.1 with AHV 20230302.101026 but failing with this error.

Yes, It’s in UEFI mode with secure boot enable.

That IDE Warning. Do you have IDE disk types in your cluster that your vm disk are being stored on?

I don’t get that warning when I create w11 VMs. So that might by why it’s failing the hardware checks

Why does this happen?

Windows 11 has strict minimum system requirements, including:

1. TPM 2.0 (Trusted Platform Module)

2. UEFI Secure Boot enabled

3. A supported CPU

4. At least 4GB RAM

5. 64 GB storage minimum

6. DirectX 12 compatible graphics / WDDM 2.x

In virtualization environments like Nutanix AHV, the most common blockers are TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot support.

How to fix this on Nutanix AHV:

1. Enable TPM 2.0 on the VM:

   • Nutanix AHV supports virtual TPM 2.0 starting from specific versions.

   • Check if your AHV version supports adding a vTPM device to the VM.

   • Add a virtual TPM device to your Windows 11 VM through Prism UI or CLI.

2. Enable Secure Boot:

   • Configure the VM's firmware to use UEFI with Secure Boot enabled.

   • This is also done in the VM's settings in Nutanix Prism.

3. Ensure the VM has enough RAM and storage:

   • Minimum 4GB RAM is recommended.

   • At least 64GB storage.

4. CPU Compatibility:

   • Make sure the CPU features exposed to the VM support Windows 11 requirements.
