Files Storage

I have what, I think, should be a simple request, but for the life of me I’m struggling with it.  My boss would like a list of all file shares in Nutanix Files with a count of files inside those shares.  I cannot seem to find a way to report on this via Files Dashboard or Analytics.  A simple .csv export would be fine.  If I drill down into an individual share, I can see the data I need, but I am not really keen on doing that for approximately 100 shares.

I have a customer currently deploying Nutanix Files and they are looking to use File Analytics in place of their current audit tool, Lepide.They are happy with the file-level audit trails in FA, but have asked if the same audit trails are available for Shares - e.g. Is there a log anywhere of who created a specific Share, who last modified it, or who deleted it?  I can’t find an answer to this in the documentation, and if I create a share in the Files Demo all I get is an “Event” in the Files console which doesn’t tell me who did it.

Hi. Is there a way to create an alert policy for capacity threshold warning for files? 

Linux server requires NFS volume allocation. Volume allocation due to Nutanix Files configuration. The client company does not have a DNS server. In this case, I wonder if there is an error that can occur when DNS is set to an arbitrary domain name that does not exist.

Hi, When I try to open the Files console, I can see the following error: Actually I don’t know why the url is 127.0.0.1. I think it stopped working after upgrade Files to v4.Thank you.

Hello, We are trying to find out the level or bandwidth of the iSCSI traffic that Analytics requires. This is because we have allocated Analytics in a different network than the CVMs (Data Service IP) so the traffic will be managed by the firewall. We don’t want to overload the firewall with this kind of traffic that could affect to the rest. Any experience with it?. I haven’t been able to find this kind of detail in the documentation. Thank you!

Hi!   On Nutanix Files 4+, is it possible to reduce the size of the File Server?   Or, is the only option destruction and re-do?

A distributed share spreads the workload by distributing the hosting of top-level directories across FSVMs. The issue is due to the fact that Nutanix Files uses DFS namespace to provide shares to the Windows clients, meaning that the client will be connecting to the generic DFS namespace and not, in particular, the FSVM which serves the share that is which holds the VG for the share. So if the client connects to an FSVM where it just holds the re-parse point within the DFS namespace the rename operation will fail with an error of "Invalid device". The workaround is to make sure that you connect to the FSVM serving the top level domain (TLD). Please refer to the following KB article for the detailed process to connect to the FSVM serving the TLD. Hi,If we look at Files instance → Performance → IO Breakdown → IOPS, do these numbers factor in RF for Writes (i.e. actually are the underlying HCI storage IOPS)? or are they the IOPS purely from the Files point of view?E.g., if we have 10% of Writes to an SMB share, but set RF3 for the underlying Files container, will we see 10% or 30% here in this graph?Thank you.

Hi, I need to open port 135 (Port mapper for RPC communication), because I have this error:  In the files server the port is closed: PORT     STATE  SERVICE80/tcp   open   http111/tcp  open   rpcbind135/tcp  closed msrpc445/tcp  open   microsoft-ds2049/tcp open   nfs5989/tcp closed wbem-https8000/tcp closed http-alt And, also I need to remove NFS option, but I can’t. Thanks!! 

Is it possible to add more than one NIC as network client in a single deployment of Nutanix Files?I am performing tests in which Nutanix Files would serve 03 different networks and during Files' deployment it is only possible to add 01 network client. However, this test will serve 02 other networks besides the one already configured.

Open connection for a file share shows 150+ open connection in PE where in it shows zero connections  while accessing through windows share folder. So can some please shed some light on this.

In a 5 node Nutanix Cluster, what is the maximum  File Server VMs you can have per File Server?

I read the Supports and Insights page.“A distributed share or export is the repository for the personal files of a user, and a standard share is the repository shared by a group.  A distributed share or export is distributed at the top-level directories while standard shares are on a single file server VM (FSVM).”Does that mean if I create a standard share called “Shared” for 100 users, all 100 users would be hitting a single FSVM for access?Why wouldn’t I want to create “Share” as distributed in order to spread the load?Our first Files setup has D$ as the only top level share as distributed.  Other shares are below it and set as standard.  Any issues with that?  Not sure why we did this, or if we fully understood.  At least the D$ with shares underneath mimic a Windows file server.

Hello Families,i have configures nutanix File server on my environment and it’s up and running perfectly, now i want to create a directory inside my share and i use “/share/dir1/dir2” format but it keep saying “invalid share/export path”

I changed AHV and CVM ips. But Nutanix File Analytics is still pointing to the old cluster ip. Does anyone has a guide howto change this so File Analytics is using the new cluster ip?  Deleting the file analytics and redeploy it is not working. As you first need to disable file analytics. But this is not possible as it gives the error that it cannot access prism (pointing to the old ip). 

I am trying to deploy a new File Analytics VM and it keeps failing with the following error“One or more services are not running, please check logs for more details”I have been looking all over the system for the correct log. Can you please point me in the right direction to find the log that might tell me why this deployment keeps failing?Thank you

This might be an obvious question but I’m very new to Nutanix. When reading the deployment guide for Nutanix Files Analytics, it doesn’t explicitly say to enable Files on the cluster. I imagine this process will be two steps, the first making sure Nutanix Files is deployed prior to deploying File Analytics?

We ran into a problem with a Nutanix File Server using SSR. (We never enabled it)We ran out of space for our profiles, and when we started deleting old ones the Snapshot grew, basically meaning we didn't clear any space at all.Some of the profiles that got deleted (robocopy script gone wrong) are actually needed. So we are going to restore those on a need basis. But, we need to remove the old ones still that are from users that are gone from the company. Is there a way to permanently delete them off the snapshot somehow?Please ask for clarifications if none of this makes sense. My Nutanix isn't strong.

Can we create a “Nutanix Files” as a FTP server?

Hello, I try to activate the SMB Protocol for a Nutanix Fileserver Deplyoment. (Prism Version 5.19.1). Join AD failed with error - Failed to join domain: failed to precreate account in ou OU=….: Invalid DN syntax. The uses User has permission to create a computer Object in this OU, but is not a Domain admin. Perhaps the reason can by that the user do not have permission to Read/Write service principal names. (A more precise Error Message could be helpful) I can not get the permission for SPN. For ohter Services f.e. SSO I have request a SPN with a KeyTabe File. Is something like this Possible with the Nutanix Fileserver too? 

How to Migrate AFS (Nutanix Files) from one AHV cluster to another AHV Cluster. we want migrate our AFS environment on another cluster with all existing configuration.Any Lead or Help
