In Nutanix cluster, Life Cycle Manager (LCM) is used to track current software and firmware versions of all entities in a Nutanix cluster and is also used to perform certain software and firmware updates on this cluster. It consists of a framework and a set of modules for inventory and update. In order to fetch these modules, LCM connects to Nutanix Portal (download.nutanix.com) URL by default. However, in scenarios where the Prism Element (PE) cluster has no direct access to the internet, default Nutanix Portal URL option cannot be used for LCM since it depends on internet connectivity. In this case, prior to LCM 2.4.1.1 version, the only available option was to set up a local dark-site web server so that LCM can pull software/firmware bundles from this dark-site web server. However starting with LCM 2.4.1.1 version & above, LCM allows direct ingestion of certain software/firmware bundles using the 'Direct Upload' option in LCM. It can be found that, when using Nutanix Move to migrate older Windows VMs, an error is exhibited regarding a failure to install the Nutanix App Mobility device drivers and to check if the operating system is SHA2 compatible. This can be due to the fact that certain Windows operating system versions (such as Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008R2) do not natively support SHA2-signed drivers, which is the type of drivers that Nutanix Move uses.This condition can be overcome by: Ensuring that the operating system has all of the latest updates (which are available for it) installed Confirming specifically that Microsoft KB 3033929 is installed. I would like to know whether the Prism Central Instance can be created on public cloud like GCP ? If Yes, Please help me with a procedure.

This happens because the Windows Operating System does not have the appropriate drivers (VirtIO driver) to read the disk that has the operating system installed on it.     In a nutshell: 1- Download both VIrtIO and Windows ISO to the image store in the cluster (you can use prism “image configuration” or prism central Explore->images->add image”) 2- Mount both VirtIO drivers and Windows ISO as CDROMs for the guest VM with problem. 3- Power on the guest VM booting from Windows ISO CDROM, you will see an option called “Troubleshoot” 4- Choose the above option and go to command prompt 5- Get the list of mounted disk drives and navigate tot eh drive where VirtIO resides 7- Load the drivers: “drvload vioscsi.inf” 8- see that drivers are mounted now “wmic logicaldisk get caption” 9- exit and reboot guest Vm 10 After you login, go ahead and install the VirtIO MSI package   For more details please see: https://portal.nutanix.com/#/page/kbs/details?targetId=kA00e000000kAWeCAM          

Hello All,Due to an ongoing project; Yesterday I subscribed on 30 days trial of Nutanix Sizer. Everything till the creation of scenario went well but facing issues when I try to add workload into my scenario. Under Workload addition form, have entered and saved all required info but unfortunately workload is not adding into my scenario. Tried almost all options but no luck. Please advise and help to get it resolve.

I may be having a case of the stupids, but I am trying to find the PowerShell cmdlet that will let you pull information of categories assigned to a VM. I’m running the Get-NTNXVM cmdlet but I do not see the category listed for the VM. Additionally, when I run a Get-NTNXTag it returns “No data found”. Does anyone know how I can pull category info for VMs via PowerShell?

Hi!We have two Nutanix clusters running ESXi v6.7.0 with a Horizon 7 VDI environment on each.  We needed to be able to sync Horizon AppVolumes between the clusters via some common storage.The solution we were set up with was a FreeNAS VM on one cluster publishing an NFS share which was then attached to the hosts in both clusters.  We weren’t bothered about high availability as it’s not an issue if the replication of the appvolumes goes down sometimes as it’s only needed if appvolumes are being changed or their assignments to users is changing.After an NCC upgrade, Prism Element now flags up this external datastore as unsupported.  I’m struggling to find out from Support what the actual magnitude of risk is here to the stability of the clusters (especially when it comes to upgrading firmwares, AOS etc).Does anyone here have any thoughts on this situation please?Thanks for reading!

During VM creation  in nutanix ESXI, if we select the thin provisioning and submit the operation once , it shows thick provisioning if we see the disk settings. what will be the issue ?

When no DHCP server is available, or where creating a scope large enough for X-Ray VMs is not possible, use zero-configuration for self-assigned IP addressing. Zero-configuration networking is a standard for IP addressing where a host self-assigns an IP address. X-Ray uses IPv4. which uses the reserved addresses 169.254.0.0/16. This feature eliminates the need for manual IP address configuration or DHCP.  To use zero-configuration networking, configure the workload VMs and the second NIC of the deployed X-Ray VM to use the same layer-2 network. For ESXi, the .ova adds the second NIC automatically. Hi guys,I want to run some tests on a local system, so I created two VMs that are isolated from my production network.So, I created a network in the cluster just to be used by these two VMs. This network does not exist in production, only within the cluster.I added the NIC for this network on both VMs. But even so VMs do not communicate, I cannot ping or access via SSH from one VM to another.This type of configuration, just for testing, is not possible with AHV \ AOS?     

So my 1st dive into Nutanix and I’m stuck at the first hurdle. I’ve setup a 1 node cluster to start with on a supermicro server with a decent enough spec and am just getting it ready to start experimenting but I can’t get the File Server updated. Everything else is running current versions but I have the below. I’ve had a quick look for some CLI guides but can’t see how to get more info on why this would be stuck. Very odd considering everything else updated without issue. Rules out the normal access, DNS issues etc. Any idea how I can clear these jobs? Rebooting etc does not clear them.I was just able to update NCC from 4.2.0.2 to 4.3 via the same method without issue. Thanks!Mark  

Whenever I export the vm list, I never see the creation date of each vm.How can I see the creation date of each vm, without using PrismCentral?Is there a tool, or script to see the creation date of each vm?Please help

 If you are unable to add hosts and storage to SCVMM by using the utility provided by Nutanix, you can add the hosts and storage to SCVMM by using the SCVMM user interface. Procedure: Login to the SCVMM user interface and click VMs and Services. Right-click All Hosts and select Add Hyper-V Hosts and Clusters, and click Next. Click Browse and select an existing Run as Account or create a new Run As Account by clicking Create Run As Account.
