We are underway of evaluation XI Frame framework. We have create shortcut to the separate pages from the chrome (“Create shortcut...”) option in order to allow users to open chrome with predefined URL for example: Support or Tutorial web page. After onboarding shortcuts and publishing image we configured Launchpad to run in Application mode. When we open Launchpad by URL from the user side we can see onboarded shortcuts but unable to open chrome with predefined link.

I want to add a new instance type to an exiting account. I am using the 3.0 Cloud Connector, and have already added the instance type in the CCA configuration. Now I just need to know how to add the type to the Frame account?Any help would be much appreciated?
The Cloud account can be disconnected due to the following issues:Network issue Prism Element service account password is changed or expired Cloud Connector Appliance is down Insufficient resources on the CVM or cluster where the CCA is running. The client displays the following error when trying to start a session:On the Admin console, Frame accounts will be greyed out as below: Solution Sometimes the account becomes disconnected due to network disruption, you can reconnect the account from the Admin console. Follow the steps below.1. Click on the 3 dots on the cloud account on the customer level, and select Cloud accounts.2. Find Which account is disconnected (U) click on the 3 dots and click Reconnect. Your account Status should be changed R. If the cloud account disconnects after a couple of minutes check the following components, which one causing the issue.Verify that the Prism Element service account is not changed or expired Verify there are no network connectivity issues with
As per this Microsoft article, the error code 8557 is ERROR_DS_MACHINE_ACCOUNT_QUOTA_EXCEEDED. This means that the user has joined so many computers that they exceeded the default per-user computer quota policy, which is 10. SolutionIn order to resolve the issue, you need to have Admin rights to AD to edit the Active Directory Service Interfaces (ADSI) utility following the below steps.Log in to the Active Directory Controller. Click Start -> Run and enter "adsiedit.msc" Expand the Domain node, right-click on the object that begins with “DC=” and contains the domain name of your domain. Click Properties. Find ms-DS-MachineAccountQuota on the Attribute Editor tab and click Edit. Enter the number of workstations you want users to be able to add. If you set it to 0, then they cannot add workstations at all. If you do not want a limit, click Clear. DO NOT JUST DELETE IT! Click OK to close the Integer Attribute Editor dialog box and OK again to close the Properties box. Close ADSI Edit.
I have deployed Frame on my lab AHV cluster and got trial subscription. I need it for demo to potential customer. Unfortunately I can’t get it to work. I get “FGA registration timeout after 10 minutes” error when trying to power on sandbox. Is there a way to get support for Nutanix Frame while it is in trial?
https://docs.frame.nutanix.comI want to read Frame docs in pdf, so that I can read offlineWhere I can download it?tq
I currently use VMWare vSphere with 10zig thin clients, but will soon move to Nutanix. I am wondering how this setup is accomplished to make it easier for my company and users.
Hello,I would like to understand licensing model - lets say I have 10 colleagues and I would like to provide them with an option to use some app from browser using xi frame. What I don't understand is - do I need 10 separate user licenses? Or some users could log in and view app with one account simultaneously?
Is there a way to set uefi_boot=True as the default, replacing BIOS? Or how can I create a VM clone or template that has that set so that when I create or have a user through SSP create a new VM that is already configured as UEFI instead of BIOS? Thanks
Fun and adventure facilitated via the PWA is well within your reach on the Nutanix Frame platform. Whether you are attempting to make a frequent task more accessible, or simply reducing the complexity of your environment, PWA is an excellent candidate for your needs. Traditionally, to start a Fame instance you would open your web browser, navigate to the Launchpad page, authenticate, then launch the desktop instance which would reside in your web-browser. We are going to make this a bit simpler. What is PWA anyway? A “PWA” is a Progressive Web Application; that is, a website or web application which looks and feels like a locally installed application. They are cross-platform and portable! PWAs even allow you to run Windows applications on a Chromebook! The following is a brief introduction to PWA in the form of application-izing a desktop instance from the Nutanix Frame platform. Please bear in mind, application-based Launchpads are probably the more traditional candidate chosen fo
Hi,If we want to implement VMware horizon on Nutanix then we would need AOS installation with ESXi right ? We cannot have a cluster with Nutanix AOS + AHV and then implement VMware horizon ?Is there any guide and videos are available that can help.
Executive SummaryThis solution note discusses the benefits of deploying Citrix Application Delivery Controller (ADC) VPX on the Nutanix enterprise cloud OS while running the native Nutanix hypervisor, AHV. Citrix ADC VPX offers a fully integrated application delivery suite for any type of application deployment. Running ADC VPX on AHV gives you unlimited scalability, availability, and a hardened, secure platform. Nutanix takes Citrix’s commitment to simplicity to another level with streamlined management, reduced rollout time, and enhanced performance. The Citrix ADC PlatformThe Citrix ADC platform is available as a hardware appliance (MPX, SDX) or a software appliance (BLX, CPX, VPX) on private and public clouds. In this document, we focus on VPX. VPXSoftware-based virtual appliances that run on widely deployed hypervisors and support 10 Mbps to 100 Gbps performance levels. ADC on AWSThe full suite of ADC capabilities provisioned on the Amazon Web Services (AWS) environment. ADC on
Executive SummarySecuring business critical applications is a key requirement for organizations, because agility depends on efficient and reliable IT infrastructure. Organizations with virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) must secure VDI assets from malware, malicious users, and unprivileged access to critical enterprise applications. With Nutanix Flow, organizations can use microsegmentation to secure their Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops (formerly XenApp and XenDesktop) environment running on Nutanix AHV. Nutanix Flow–based microsegmentation in Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops environments offers the following security benefits: Prevent lateral movementMany modern attacks spread by compromising an internal asset and spreading laterally through the internal network, causing an even larger compromise or eventually gaining access to critical assets. Flow-based microsegmentation prevents this lateral movement from one VDI desktop VM to another by securing all VM-to-VM access in a deskto
Hello! This is my first question. So we are planning on installing the Frame VDI product, and using the SGA (Streaming Gateway Appliance) on the DMZ, as the Web Application Proxy that authenticates with our ADFS server. And I’m wondering about the public SSL certificates needed. We are being told by Nutanix that “You will need a wildcard cert for a subdomain off of your main domain. So a cert for something like *.sga.pha.phila.gov”. I’ve asked for more clarification, and my rep doesn’t seem to know. So what I am wondering is: do I need to get a public certificate for my internal ADFS server in that same “sga.” sub-domain? i.e., adfs.sga.pha.phila.gov.What’s really throwing me is that the ADFS server’s FQDN is for our AD domain, which isn’t the same as our public domain name, of course. I’m guessing if I get a certificate for that server in a name that isn’t part of our internal DNS, I need to make a DNS alias for it. And, what SANs (Subject Alternate Names) do I need to include in the C
Executive SummaryThis document describes the possible impact on the performance and user density of a VDI environment when the system implements mitigations for Spectre, Meltdown, and L1 Terminal Fault (L1TF), or Foreshadow. Further analysis also provides insight on performance differences between Windows 10 versions (1709 and 1803) and hypervisors (ESXi and AHV). We expect customer results to vary, because a Login VSI workload is never the same as a real user workload. These results give an indication of the impact of upgrading from Windows 10 version 1709 to version 1803; changing the workload changes the outcomes.OptimizationsBecause Windows 10 is not designed to run as a virtual desktop on a server sharing CPU cycles with other Windows 10 desktops, you need to optimize it to make sure that it doesn’t use CPU, memory, and IOPS unnecessarily. For example, if Windows 10 in a VDI environment is not optimized, it runs scheduled tasks like disk defragmentation, scans the system for malwa
Ladies/Gents,As I had to go through this on my own lab, I decided to write a detailed blog post. The idea was to setup and environment with the following details:Workloads on Azure and on-prem AHV (Nutanix CE) User authentication handled by on-prem Active Directory (so ADFS) Single external IP address available (this is the main constraint, as this is my home lab and I am sure many have this same issue)The end goal was to make sure ADFS and the Nutanix Xi Frame SGA played nice behind a single IP address. Mission accomplished! The details are here, with screenshots. If you have questions, just let me know. The blog post title is "Home Lab – Citrix ADC Content Switch and Nutanix Xi Frame SGA".
We focus so much on making things functional, reliable, scalable and whatnot that the aesthetics are often left for better times. Why should they be? After all, user experience matters the most. Did you know you can change the background image of your Frame instances for both App mode and Desktop mode? For App mode instances log in to your Sandbox, open up File Explorer and navigate to C:\ProgramData\Frame\. Replace the "app-business.png" file with the image you wish to use as your background on your instances. The image file must be renamed into "app-business.png" and placed in the same C:\ProgramData\Frame\ directory which will overwrite the existing file. Publish the Sandbox image, and the next production App mode instance will display the new background. For the instructions on the Desktop mode, follow through the KB-8847 How to Change Background of Production Instances.More on Frame is in Frame Documentation.
This seems like a painfully basic topic to be asking about, but being unfamiliar with VDI and having difficulty in finding the appropriate syntax to get solid hits, I’m just going to put this out here. We have dependencies in several application which rely upon the Computer Name (Windows Computer Name) and/or the ClientName variable to perform certain functions. With this in mind we are trying to identify how/if we can assign static ‘Computer Name(s)’ to specific individual users so that upon logging into their VDI session they will always receive the same Computer Name to be leveraged by the applications in question.
