Some VMs stay powered off after Citrix scheduled Reboots | Nutanix Community
Skip to main content

We have the issue since Sunday that only some of the VMs power on after a scheduled Reboot via Citrix Studio (CVAD 1912 CU2). Of 9 Citrix VDA VMs only around 2-4 are starting each morning after receiving the power off and power on command via Citrix Studio for scheduled reboots.
When this issue happens the following event is showing on the Citrix Delivery Controller:

The description for Event ID 0 from source Nutanix VSS Software Provider cannot be found. Either the component that raises this event is not installed on your local computer or the installation is corrupted. You can install or repair the component on the local computer.
If the event originated on another computer, the display information had to be saved with the event.
The following information was included with the event:
Service started/resumed

Before and after this event other VMs can start without issue.
I dont see any error log on Nutanix / Prism when this happens. Only the Snapshot Events of the VMs.

When we test the Nutanix Hosting inside Citrix Studio all tests are successful.

What could be this issue? It did work without issues the weeks before and we didnt do any updates.

Citrix Provisioning 1912 CU2

We already tried to separate the VMs in Citrix Studio that each VDA reboots at a different time with 30 minutes pause between via tagging and also tried the steps from this Article https://support.citrix.com/article/CTX237058/schedule-reboot-does-not-restart-machines-and-it-stays-in-shutdown-state

Hi there,

That's curious indeed!

Do you have the plugin installed on each delivery controller?

I wonder if it's not working on one of the controller's that happens to be silently failing the request.

Thanks,

Kim.

Hi thanks for the feedback. Yes the plugin is installed on both delivery controllers and test shows successful from Citrix Studio.

On Sunday we had daylight savings and think this might have caused the issue but when we check the Nutanix host NTP and time settings everything looks fine. We are deploying a new image with PVS and see if this helps.

Mmm yeah, does seem too close to be unrelated.

Do other scheduled tasks work OK?

What I always do with wintertime change (so last sunday and not the summertime change).

  1. Disable the scheduled reboot on saterday or friday;
  2. On monday open golden image (do some magic like gpupdate or full virus scan);
  3. Save the golden image and deploy it to the vda's;
  4. enable reboo schedule.

Had lots of problems in the past with the wintertime change on SBC environments.

P.s. Why using pvs and not mcs?

Hi. How many nodes do you have in your cluster?
