Hello, I have questions on SSD pool and ILM mechanism I still did not found answers for after cross reading dozens of web sites and forums. Probably the response is obvious but I feel like I am missing something here and would like to have certainties on these points. So, let's suppose I have a 4 hybrid (1065) node cluster and I am running out of SSD. Q1) Can I technically add an All Flash node in the same cluster container ? Q2) Will the VMs hosted on this specific AF node automatically be all flash VMs (with no ILM and cold tier drain mechanism) ... or will they use the cluster cold storage pool (from other hybrid nodes) ? ===== Regarding the ILM mechanism and different SSD thresold, I (think I) understood that: - data will preferentially be stored on local SSD of each node until it reaches 75% usage - If one node reaches 75% of SSD usage, then ILM will send "less hotest" local SSD data over the network to other remote SSD nodes - If all nodes fi
Hi All I have read that a single storage container is all that should be used as Nutanix takes care of all the functionality like de-dupe and ssd allocation. I started my Nutanix journey with a number of containers for dividing into business parts eg: Production SQL, Production Web, Dev, and Test. Is this division a sensible way to go or do the latest versions of Nutanix negate that? I intend to limit dev and test to slower drives in the pool, is that possible outside a container approach? Many thanks E.
I have 8 port 10BaseT 10g switch and I have four nodes with dual 10g and dual 1g. I also have a 1g switch with 50 ports. If I plug all 8 10g nic into the 10g switch I will not have an uplink port. However I still have thx 8 1g nic. So this leaves me with a couple options, and I was curios what best practice would be. A few options I have consider are: Only use one of the two 10g ports per node. Configure AHV to use 10g for I/O only and 1g for connecting to the outside world. *not sure if this even doable*
Hi All Is anybody else just going round and round in circles with Nutanix and the network it resides on? I am getting soooo peeeeeee'd off!! The man at the show said easy peasy, 15 minutes to deploy, which 15 minutes? The last 15 in 2019? Dell supplied, but don't really know the product so they pass calls off to Nutanix who do their bit (very well, no complaint there) but then hand the things about Dell back to Dell, so I am not getting a joined up answer. So the crux is that I don't have a stable network and I am ready to rip it all out and go back to VMware. Unfortunately my budget has gone and I have to rely on Communities for answers - not a lot forthcoming. Is anyone else having these sort of problems or is it just me?
Hi All I am having my first foray into Nutanix using 3 x Dell XC servers and 2 x Dell X4012 switches (stacked), TOR switches are Dell N3024 stacked - I have come from a background of VMware using blades and SANs, so I a little confused on the process for setting up the external networking. What vlans etc do I need on the switches for the Nutanix management, vmotion and storage etc? Is there any best practice documents or has someone completed a similar task and documented the procedures? Any hints, tips or configs gratefully received. Thanks Eric
Hi All First I run this: allssh manage_ovs --bridge_name br0 --interfaces eth0,eth1 --bond_name bond0 update_uplinks and the expectation I would have Bond0 entry somewhere, however I run the "ovs-appctl bond/show /bond0" command and I get this answer: FIPS mode initialized Nutanix AHV no such bond ovs-appctl: ovs-vswitchd: server returned an error What am I missing?
What's my goal? Right. I have 3 networks that cannot talk to each other for "reasons". Mostly because we have a test system that utilizes the same IP addresses (ORACLE Reasons) and we test & demo software in Prod, Demo, & Test networks. I just did a foundation on my system because I did an upgrade and the networking customization I had to do with OVS changed and wouldn't work anymore. Now that I'm working on a new install, I'm having trouble configuring the network and getting issues I didn't have before. I've created and recreated several times using different varieties of below commands and still same outcome. Some commands below are from various tries, but same result. Error when powering on VM with virtual NIC Operation failed: InternalException: kNetworkError: OVS error (10.1.16.103 create_local_port): Error not a valid bridge: br1 Host A - ovs show [root@HOSTA ~]# ovs-vsctl show 48fd5ca1-d898-425e-9b11-484eaceaba94 Bridge "br0" Port "br0
Hi, I need to download AOS 5.5.3.1 for a new cluster but I don't find the link for this version. where I can find the link ? Thank You
Hi everyone I tried to reboot hosts using "Request Reboot" in the gear icon. But its progress completely stucked at 24%. How can I resolve this situation? AOS 5.1.2 ESXi 6.0
I have encountered an issue while migrating to a dvs, I am running esxi 6.5 on a 3 node cluster. The setup is new so there are no VMs apart from the CVMs and a test VM on the host. The dvs already exists and I am doing one node at a time and as such I added one of the NICs from node A to the dvs. I then did a quick test with the test VM on each port group I have configured to confirm connectivity. I then attempted to migrate the VM Network port group created on vSwitch0 that the CVM on node A was connected to, the migration "worked" but connectivity to the CVM was lost. In addition to losing connectivity to the CVM on node A, I am now unable to access prism from any of the CVMs or cluster IP. The page loads but once I attempt to login nothing happens. I even powered off node A in hopes that I can get to prism but still no luck. All CVMs and the cluster IP are reachable via IP, the esxi hosts for node B and C are also fine and reachable. Not sure where to go from here other than tear do
Hi, Nutanix announced EOL of NX-6035C-G5. I can make new scenario with it if few month my customer doesn't buy? Could someone help me? Thanks,
Hi all is there any guide for what ESXi version/build-number is support or unsupport about Foundation? Sometimes I need to know what version Foundation can install what version ESXi Or I only use the newest version Foundation to install older version ESXi? Does it always work? I hope there will be some information let me know when I install older ESXi on newer Nutanix using newer Foundation Some Costomers not always use the newest ESXi thanks!
Hi all, today I wanted to upgrade NOS on one of our clusters from 4.1.x to 4.6.3 which worked perfectly fine for another cluster. The first CVM was updated successfully but the next CVM Update failed. (Maybe due to connectivity issues to the host.) upgrade_status says, that the node is upgrading right now, but in fact the CVM is powered off and won't boot. After it displays the following information it reboots fails again and after the second reboot it stays shut down. Is there a simple fix for this or do I have to open a support ticket? EDIT: it seems like the update process tried to shut down this cvm but got a timeout and now the update is somehow stuck. Can I somehow restart the upgrade process or manually update this CVM? Thank you.

I attempted an upgrade of NCC however it is stuck. Is there a way to restart the upgrade?
Hi, after upgradeing to AOS 5.5.0.7 from 5.1.3 yesterday I am getting alerts saying that "Pulse cannot connect to REST server endpoint. Connection Status: Unknown, Pulse Enabled: Unknown, Error Message: Unable to determine Pulse connectivity status to REST endpoint." When configuring Pulse it shows me connection method SMTP. Just implementing a new cluster and I've ran foundation with NOS4.5.1.2 and ESX 6. The ESXi hosts have not yet been connected to vCenter. One of the post image steps is to set the correct time zone for the cluster. It says that each CVM needs to be shutdown in Serial. Is this a simple case of connecting to a each ESXi host and shutting down the CVM, Power it back on, connect to the CVM, via http://cvmip to check that it is up, then move on to the next ESXi host and repeat? Thanks Chris
After a failed upgrade that resulted in a failed node, we reinstalled the node and added it as a remote site so we could migrate to it and reinstall the other nodes. When I added the site on the old cluster it works as expected, but on the reinstalled node I cant add any vStore Mappings and are instead greeted with this message "Remote Datastores are either not configured or not accessible." When I run ncli> remote-site list on the reinstalled node I get: Status : unreachable and on the old cluster: Status : relationship established Is there any log output/command that could help me troubleshoot this further?
We are using Nutanix ( AOS 5.5.0.6) with AHV-Hypervisor. Connecting to a VM(W2K12,W2K8, German) via Prim & VNC-Console there is no possibility to change Keyboard-Layout. Our Computers are on Win7 - German with German QWERTZ - Keyboard Layout. No matter which Browser we are using (IE11, Chrome, Firefox) we can not type special characters like \ / . We also tried the American Key for / \ without success. Is there a posibility to fix this Problem? Or is it a Bug ? Looking forward to hear your comments: F.Hil

Hey Guys, I have a question: Let's say a customer needs to deploy some Oracle databases. As wel all know, licensing is expensive.. In this scenario they have a 11 node cluster. Would it be possible to have 2 nodes run on AHV with oracle whilst the remaining 9 nodes run on ESXI?(They only need 2 nodes hence they don't want to use a third node & create another cluster + They would like to benefit from erase coding.) This would cut the Oracle costs by a huge amount. Or are there any other solutions for this? Thanks in advance! Sebastiaan
Hi, I have a Huawei Switch S7706 (10G) which is used with Cisco LR/ SR SFP+ to connect devices. Wish to know the Nutanix standard DAC Cable C-CBL-5M-SFP+-SFP+ is also compatible ? Or from where can I get a technical spec of the cable which can be given/compared with the Switch Provider. Thanks in advance SK
How to enable promiscuous mode on AHV ?
