You can’t add new VPCs in Xi Cloud Services, but you can create virtual subnets in the VPCs for hosting VMs, and configure policies to secure them. You can update the VPCs to specify settings such as DNS and DHCP.Nutanix will create subnets in the production VPC, since post-failover (Planned/Unplanned) VMs are brought up in production VPC. However, if you need a subnet dedicated for a virtual firewall, you would need to create a subnet by f

The Nutanix X-Play™ tool is a simple low-code/no-code automation feature built into the Nutanix Prism® management controller that helps you automate routine operations and tasks, and provides the ability to auto-remediate issues that may occur.Using the X-Play tool, you can define a set of actions or a series of actions (called a “playbook”) based on a trigger, such as an event, alert, or an incoming webhook. For example, you can set up a playbook so when an alert about a VM’s memory being constrained is detected, the playbook can automatically add a specified amount of memory to the VM.But what if you didn’t want this to automatically happen, but rather you wanted to route through an approval workflow so that an admin would have to approve the change before the memory was added? In this video, we give you a walkthrough how to set up an integrated automation process with ServiceNow describing exactly this. With the latest Test Drive update, you can set up a similar flow using our demo t

This blog was authored by Gourab Baksi Principal Product Manager NutanixThis first blog in the three-part series on Metro Availability for AHV focuses on how to achieve zero data loss with Protection Policies in Prism Central at VM granularity. For mission-critical applications in various industry sectors like banking, capital markets, insurance, healthcare, and emergency life support services, 24x7x365 uptime is key for the business to function unhindered. In such cases, applications need to have transparent visibility into underlying IT infrastructure failures, including hardware components (disk, network cards, power supply), racks, clusters, or sites. A 2014 Gartner study puts the cost of downtime at $5,600 per minute and can go as high as $540,000 per hour for mission-critical applications. One of our core principles at Nutanix is to ensure the continuous availability of data for all applications running on the platform. To achieve seamless business continuity, we have built High Av

As a boxing fan in the 90’s and 2000’s, I watched the most famous boxers of the era rise from naturally-talented newcomers to dominators in the ring. And while their talent and hard work propelled them early in their careers, they were never satisfied with their current skills and conditioning. They continued to work hard on improving hand speed, movement, conditioning, and power en route to many years as champions of their respective weight classes. Now you may be asking yourself, what does boxing have to do with replication or Nutanix? Well, Nutanix, like the boxing legends we all know, continues to hone and improve our products with new capabilities, better performance, easier to navigate UI’s, etc. We don't have a “good enough” mindset where once we deliver a capability, we move onto the next. We continue to iterate and improve on it.To that end, Nutanix has delivered a more efficient method of replicating data from one Nutanix AOS™ cluster to another AOS cluster for the purpose o
The Nutanix Calm™ application orchestrator is the gateway to self-service for business users in the enterprise. Their journey starts with managing projects and users via Calm, launching applications, and managing routine operational tasks on day two.As a part of their daily routine, users rely on "Scaling" VMs in the application to support the varying demands of workloads running in the VMs. In Calm, the "Scale" profile action built into the blueprint is used to achieve horizontal scaling by deploying additional instances of a VM. However, until Calm 3.2.0, if the users wanted to vertically scale a VM, for example add more memory, or change any of the VM attributes on a running application, it was not directly possible and they had to go through an admin. As an example, the database admin (DBA) of a multi-tier application managed by Calm supporting retail transactions in an enterprise wants to upgrade the primary database with a higher configuration to support more transactions per seco

Consistent high performance with bullet-proof reliability are two fundamental attributes that enterprises expect of infrastructure that hosts their business-critical applications. Performance and resiliency (along with scalability and simplicity) are inherent to the design of the Nutanix AOS™ software that is at the heart of Nutanix® Hyperconverged Infrastructure (HCI). This is why Enterprises across the world run their business-critical applications on Nutanix HCI. We are continuously building on these strengths and further enhancing AOS performance and resiliency capabilities to enable customers to deploy more applications on Nutanix infrastructure with confidence. In this post I will cover key resiliency and performance focussed capabilities that we are introducing with AOS 6.Performance EnhancementsWe have been focused on pushing the performance envelope by delivering major architectural advancements in the past few major releases (you can read about these here). AOS 6 is no except
There has been an alarming recurrence of ransomware attacks in recent months across organizations from all industries ranging from healthcare to education. Gartner reports that Twenty-seven percent1 of malware incidents reported in 2020 can be attributed to ransomware. In a ransomware attack, cybercriminals infiltrate systems using known vulnerabilities and deploy malicious code to encrypt valuable data, holding it hostage until a ransom is paid. By disallowing access to critical business data, these attacks are often more catastrophic than data breaches. However, with the right preparation, monitoring, and swift mitigation practices in place, ransomware and other sophisticated attacks can be prevented.Nutanix’s vision is to make security invisible by bringing the same simplicity to security operations that Nutanix delivered to IT operations. We do this by building comprehensive security controls at every layer of the Nutanix® Cloud Platform to help you prevent, detect, and respond to

Last year Intel and Nutanix announced two innovations that unleashed the performance of NVMe storage on Nutanix AOS. To get some background on these, visit our blog here.Today we’ll be discussing further enhancements under development focused on our amazing Intel® Optane™ technology. It’s been a year since Intel® Optane™ SSDs become officially available in platforms such as the NX8170-G7, but we’re still hard at work to bring you every bit of performance we can. By default, Nutanix AOS runs in a flat storage tier when using most drive configurations. This storage layout was not taking advantage of some of the best qualities Intel Optane SSDs had to offer and I’ll explain why.Nutanix currently categorizes drives in one of three types: DAS-SATA, SSD-SATA, and SSD-PCIe. The SSD-PCIe category includes drives like our Intel P4510 and Intel Optane SSD. Nutanix uses a flat tier architecture with SSDs – and assuming all drives have sufficient space available, the IO is distributed in a round r
At Intel, we are hearing from customers that digital transformation is not only accelerating, but organizations are shifting from tactical modernization efforts to more strategic transformation. Infrastructure is a key asset in this strategic transformation that can enable new insights from data, drive improved business outcomes, and enhance customer experience. But apps, together with the growth of data, are placing more demands on infrastructure. Infrastructure should be based on a consistent technology foundation that enables apps and workloads to be optimally placed and managed, ensuring workload portability between infrastructure on premises, at the edge, and the instance offerings of various cloud providers - avoiding lock-in to single cloud provider and providing the flexibility needed to meet business objectives, as well as privacy and security requirements.HCI is often the best approach to modernize on premises and edge infrastructure to provide a foundation for your hybrid c
