So I use the following script to create a VM. I actually have a small batch file that opens putty, logs into a CVM, prompts me for the $name and then runs the script below. The image is one I made, then sysprepped and uploaded as a disk image.Everything works great except that when I then open the console it goes through the Windows setup. I have an Unnattend file but I am unsure how to use it with my script. If I go through the GUI to create a VM I just point it to the unattened file in our file share. Is there a way to attach the sysprep file? I thought it might be a parameter vm.disk_create but I am not clever enough to figure that part out and thought maybe someone else smarter could help. First world problems I know but it could help save me 30 extra seconds of not having to type the admin password in and set the keyboard settings etc.#creates a vmacli vm.create $name memory=$mem num_cores_per_vcpu=$core num_vcpus=$vcpu uefi_boot=TRUE &&#Create C:acli vm.disk_create $name c
Do you know guys a way to speed up uploading large image files (vhdx etc) to a Nutanix container? Using browser or winscp we got maximum 180GB/hour (using a windows VM with direct connect to CVM network, no routers/firewalls). Any idea?
I will upgrade AOS version from 5.10.6 to 5.15.5 on Dell XC640 that hypervisor version is vSphere6.7 U2.Can I rollback AOS version If upgrade process occurs any trouble? Please give me any manuals if do you know that.
The technical piece below found our way through our partner channels. Installation instructions for Red Hat OpenShift on Nutanix are detailed in the documentation below. Enjoy, and as always feel free to provide us with feedback. User Provisioned Installation of Red Hat OpenShift 4.3 on Nutanix AHV 5.15 This manual was created during a proof of concept environment using Nutanix AHV 5.15, the KVM-based hypervisor of Nutanix, with OpenShift 4.3 in combination with the Nutanix CSI driver. The Nutanix CSI driver provides scalable, persistent storage for stateful applications using Nutanix Files and Nutanix Volumes. Please note: At the time of writing, Nutanix AHV in combination with OpenShift is supported by Nutanix, but not certified by Red Hat. If certification is required, clients are advised to use any of the other hypervisors supported by Nutanix. The installation steps followed are documented in the IBM Cloud Architecture & Solution Engineering repository guide. The PoC envi
I was wondering what best practice is for defragmenting guest OS on a Nutanix node. I am running ESXi on the nodes. I have looked all over but I cannot find anything that tells me definitively the best practice.
I have VMware 6.5 U2 running on Dell XC 740 xd appliance in NUTANIX environment.ESX are not patched since a year now. Looking for the best option to apply patches. Is VUM will be ok or from PRISM ?
Hello Everyone,Has anyone here run Sybase ASE in a Linux VM in AHV? We have a few legacy physical servers that I’m looking to migrate into our AHV cluster. I know it ‘should’ work but looking for a reference or reassurance from anyone who has ‘been there, done that’. Thanks,Jim
I want to introduce Self-Service VM operations via Prism Central for our end-users (do not have CALM). So, I’ve used cloud-init (Linux VMs) and cloudbase-init (Windows VMs) along with customization code (Python) to deliver this Self-Service VM provisioning experience. You may refer https://github.com/cybergavin/nutanix/tree/master/self-service for details of this set up. Any feedback always welcome. Sorry if the code isn’t too pythonic as I’m a python newbie.
I’m new to Nutanix and we have a Nutanix cluster online. For testing purposes I’m running diskspd test in a VM.I’m running some diskspd test with identical VM configs in several enviroments 3-tier Hyper-V/ VMware and HCI Nutanix AHV.Why is it that running a test with -Sh flag (no software/hardware cache) gives almost 10 times lower results in Nutanix compared to other platforms? Without -Sh flag Nutanix is running test with higher results compared to my other testing platforms. Is it because of how CVM is designed to work? I’m just trying to understand.
We are new to Nutanix. We are migrating from ESXi to AHV. We currently have some level of CPU oversubscription in place on ESXi. We anticipate the need to oversubscribe CPU on some clusters and I am looking for ways to do this safely. I’ve looked in the Best practices guide but there was very little there. Any help would be appreciated.
Hi,We have PRISM Central Pro license and I’d like a report or Analysis view on which virtual machines are consuming the most memory. The Cluster in question is VMware 6.7. Is this possible and what is the best way to go about it?
Good afternoon, all!I’m setting up a new PKI infrastructure in a Nutanix cluster and I want to shut down the root CA for safekeeping. Is there a way to add some safeguards so that the VM can’t be started inadvertently?
I know there’s another topic like this but, it is 3 years old. Is there an easy way to put a single ESX host into maintenance mode? Not to compare products but with Cisco Hyperflex, you right-click on the host and there’s a “Hyperflex maintenance mode” option. This does what needs to be done to the CV without having to SSH into anything.I was just wondering if the process has improved in 3 years.
Hi,I cannot expand the cluster when Pre expand-cluster tests were failed and error message was "Failure in pre expand-clustrer tests.Errors:Failed to get vlan tag of node:XXXXX" on Prism Element.CVM and HyperVisor Network use Tagged VLAN and PortChannel in L2 switch ports.Ping to HyperVisor’sManagement IP from other NW segment is OK.Of course, CVM and HyperVisor’sManagement IP are same segment.Should I do any other? As below, each of versions.・DELL XC640・AOS:5.10.6・ESXi:6.7 Update 2 (Build 13006603)
Hi, We have deployed couple of guest VMs on Windows 2019 Standard Edition OS on our 6 node cluster. Both the guests are configured with 1 VCPU with 2 cores along with 16 & 32 memory respectively. We have procured standard paper license of the OS. The hypervisors are running on AHV version 20170830.337 & AOS - 5.10.8.1 LTS. Is there any specific licensing model for Windows Server OS to run on AHV? How are the Windows licenses determined? Kindly help.
Hi! have a Project in Prism Central that's acting wierd. When i try to update the Project trough GUI i get this error message:Edit conflict: please retry change.Notification { "api_version": "3.1", "code": 409, "kind": "project_internal", "message_list": [ { "message": "Edit conflict: please retry change.", "reason": "CONCURRENT_REQUESTS_NOT_ALLOWED" } ], "state": "ERROR" }So i connect with SSH to a PC CVM, and try to delete the project trough nuclei,<nuclei> project.delete Project \Name confirm=trueConfirm deletion of project? (yes/no) yes{ "message":{ "kind": "project","code": 409,"message_list":[ { "message": "Edit conflict: please retry change.", "reason": "CONCURRENT_REQUESTS_NOT_ALLOWED" } ],"state": "ERROR", "api_version": "3.1" } }It is only the specific project that has this problem, other projects works just fine. I have searched KBs but cant find anything. The ncc health_checks run_all are not showing up anything suspicious. I have also opened a case on this error!
Hi , Could you advice me ?Now, Hypervisor and CVM is NOT syncronized from NTP Server.I use CloudConnect everyday , but that was failed. Is CloudConnect faiure reason relevent to NTP Server unsyncronization? TestConnect is OK from Onpresmiss Cluster to AWS.I read this;https://portal.nutanix.com/page/documents/details?targetId=Web-Console-Guide-Prism-v5_17:wc-cloud-connect-wc-c.htmlSincerely,
Just curious how other users running AHV plan their ad disaster recovery? AHV does not support VM-Generation ID so it looks like the most straight forward method not including additional software would be to use the builtin server backup to backup and restore at least the server with the fsmo role. I wonder what happens in a protection domain scenario especially if there are multiple servers. Seems like there could be usn rollbacks issues. Any input on how others are doing it would be appreciated since the documentation seems to be scarce for AHV.
Hi, I am always taken care. I use CloudConnect by VPN connection to AWS and enable NW compression.Everyday repeat that.Since 1 year ago, All PDs are failed. below the message on Prism ;---Replication was skipped for protection domain XXXX of snapshot (X,X,X) to remote site XXX. Replication was skipped as a newer snapshot was available.---I executed cli on CVM, replication statuses are “Sending” .---$ncli pd list-replication-status Replication Operation : Sending And I did “Test Connection” on Prism was “OK”. What do you think this reason? Sincerely,
Hi,I am always taken care.I'll upgrade Hyper-V 2012R2 to 2016 on XC630 so I have some questions.・metadata(json) download from Nutanix Portal. Can I do that Hypervisor ISO file there ?・What difference are metadata(json) each ? ・Use Hypervisor ISO file of Evaluation version, is it OK?・ISO's language adapt any languages? or English only? Sincerely,
Hi,I use vSphere6.0 U3 on NX series and set AsyncDR replication to AWS.Some protection domain’s AsyncDR are errorred after VCSA has broken and re-deploy.Are AsyncDR and vCenter depend on each ?Sincerely,
Hi,Our 3rd party backup software does a poor job of cleaning up vdisks off of a proxy after it does its backups. Many times, it will leave the vdisk from a snapshot mounted to its proxy server and not delete it. This is a known issue that has been brought up with the vendor (Quest NetVault). Our question is, what is the easy way to see what disks are owned by the proxy VM and what disks are owned by a snapshot image? We want to be sure we don’t remove a disk that is owned by the proxy server. Thanks,
i have two quetion for our scenario : we have to AHV clusters production and DR.in our scenario we need to stop the main be active after powered on when resolve the issue becouse if the main server goes down the DR will be active and after resolve the issue the two cluster will be active active?Q2: How to stop auto power on for VMs on AHV ?that means when the main site be on after solve the issue I do not need the VM powered on automaticlly.. I need to power it manually.

We’re standing up some docker-based Nvidia GPU compute workloads for the rapids.ai ecosystem for replacing/accelerating Spark & friends. However, we’re lost in Nutanix GPU virtualization docs, so curious if folks have ideas on the pieces for nutanix to work here. Right now, we’re thinking P100/V100 GPU → ahv / esxi → rhel 8.x → docker, and as an optional reach target, see if we can guest multiple host OS’s to share the same GPU(s). We’ve successfully done GPU → Ubuntu+RHEL → docker, but without ahv/esxi in the mix. Most ahv+esxi gpu articles seem more about VDI than compute, so we’re uncertain. Experiences? Ideas? Tips?
