Can we change the hypervisor in Nutanix appliances? | Nutanix Community
Skip to main content

Hello,

We are buying a Nutanix Cluster of 3 nodes nx-3170-g8, but the management, also intending to buy vSphere 7 licenses thinking to replace the Hypervisor in the Nutanix boxes.

I would like to know, if this can be done? and if yes, what documents or procedures must be followed?

Thank you in advance,

Yes this can be done, we are running 2 Productive Nutanix Clusters based on NX-8155-G7 hardware with ESXi and vSphere as the Hypervisor running rock solid for for 3 Years now.
We also have another 2 Clusters running on AHV but they are online for a few months only, also no issues.

Unfortunately i don’t know the exact steps for installing Nutanix as our systems were preinstalled by out IT Partner to our specs and we received them fully configured.
I assume however that the process should be similar to this:

In the video at 5:13 there is an option to choose ESXi or AHV.

Hello Lotfi,

Yes, it can be done very easy through Nutanix Foundation by re-imaging the nodes before creating the cluster.

Install Foundation App on Windows:

Upload ESXi ISO:
