Hello, First-timer here, I don't know if I'm posting on the right place, I'm sorry if I'm not... I have Acronis 12.5 Backup installed on a Windows Server 2019 Essentials 64 bits (that's installed bare-metal on a Lenovo SystemX 3650 M5). Attached to it, there's an IBM TS4300. I'm trying to figure how to backup the VMs running on my AOS 5.10.1 in the tape drivers inside the TS4300. I know I can install Acronis Agents on my Windows VMs, but I don't know if that's the answer for my question. And, if a disaster happens and I need to restore the Acropolis VMs from the tapes, how can I do it? Sorry if my questions seem too basic, but I'm googling for the desired infos all day long with no success up to now, so I'm asking for help here. Best regards,

How we take backup of VM, What are the diffrent ways for that out side of the cluster.

Hi, Looking to see if it is possible to manually deploy the CVM to Azure for use with Cloud connect? Also what is the reliance on the classic deployment model? Why can't the CVM be deployed using the Resource Manager model? Microsoft have been pushing customers away from the classic model over the last few years, its likely that the majority of customer with mature Azure deployments won't be using the classic model.

We are moving away from VMware over to Acropolis and I was wondering what others have been using to backup their VMs under Acropolis, 3rd party wise? Under VMware, we had been using Veeam, but this is no longer a choice.Any comments/suggestions would be helpful.

Does anyone have thoughts on how backup and recovery will work with the Acropolis hypervisor? Our company is definitely interested in moving in this direction, but the simplicity of Veeam B&R has been great, and I do not want to move away from that unless there is a solution that provides all of veeams features.

Hello - I'm new to Nutanix and am in the middle of taking the online 5.5 course in the education portal. I have a simple question about Cloud connect: In the section about Cloud Connect features the very first thing you read is "data transmitted is already deduplicated and users can choose to enable compression on the local storage container.." Yet when I look at the section regarding General Recommendations and Limitations I see the following: "It is not recommended to enable deduplication on the source cluster..." Can you please help me understand this? This looks like a complete contradiction.

Nutanix also has numerous service provider partners (www.nutanix.com/x-powered) that offer Nutanix powered DRaaS for customer's hosted and on-prem deployment. What are some of the reasons why you would consider DRaaS and Xi Leap in your environment? Share with your peers.

We are using the ASync Data Protection between two sites to replicate our VMs. But that is only taking a new snapshot of an existing VM and replicating that snapshot. I would like to have replication setup for some of VMs so that the VM and all of the snapshots we've made of it outside of Data Protection are replicated as well. We may need a very specific state of a VM at our remote site. Using only the Async DP snapshots won't fully meet our needs. Is there any way to do this with the existing Nutanix software? I'd rather not purchase something third party to solve this problem.

Hi all, I have a customer running two DCs, using veaam to replicate VMs between sites. They are renewing the infrastructure at Site 1 and are looking to adopt EMC storage for native (recoverpoint) host aware SAN to SAN replication. Until they update the infrastructure running on site 2 they will need to continue using Veaam in the interim. I'd like to recommend they take a look at Nutanix however first need assurances that they can continue using Veaam to replicate between ESX on Nutanix & ESX on legacy. The idea would be to then go full Nutanix at both sites (once site 2 is refreshed), swap out to AHV and live the cross site replication dream 🙂 Advice appreciated! Thanks Patrick

Using near sync replication in AOS 5.5 means that normal snapshots on VMs cannot be initiated by external backup tools like comtrade, rubrik This is a bit of a showstopper. If we need an RPO of 15 minutes on AHV, we have to use nearsync - but then we can't backup VMs off the cluster When will Nutanix resolve this rather major downside?

Without a backup solution, am I able to restore a vm on AHV using the built in RF?

Environment: Small ROBO Cluster ROBO Backup Node (1155S) Central Backup Target Small Robo Cluster > Remote Snapshot to ROBO Backup Node (1155S) > Remote Snapshot to Central Backup target.

Is there a way to deactivate an old Protection Domain and move the snapshot data to a new Protection Domain?

When I load the SSR portal through the desktop shortcut, or by browsing to locahost:5000 within a second or two the browser chokes and becomes unresponsive. I thought it may be related to the background animation, does anyone experience this also? Is there a way to disable the animation in the SSR portal page? Mant thanks, Daniel

What options are available within nutanix to speed up replication to a remote site? The best i am able to get on a single stream is about 20MBps (160mbps) with an aggregate speed of about 60MBps (480mbps) spread out over several streams. However, we have a 10gbps link between sites, so i expected to get better throughput.

Hi everyone, I´m trying to export the VMs from AHV in vmdk and qcow2 formats directly from a CVM. Sometimes I get the errors bellow: qemu-img: NFS Error: NFS: Write failed with NFS3ERR_JUKEBOX(-11) qemu-img: error while writing sector 44426880: Resource temporarily unavailable In other situations Putty just close in the middle of the copy. After several retries, I finally made backup of two big VMs (around 50 gb). Hi, Our customer would like to utilize the snapshot feature on Nutanix AHV as backup solution. They would like to know if they could create Application Consistent snapshot. I did some research. 1. In the Web Console Guide which mentioned about Application-Consistent Snapshots "This option is available for ESXi only; it is not supported for Hyper-V or AHV. However, athird-party product could be used to invoke VSS when the hypervisor is Hyper-V or AHV." 2. QEMU should have guest agent and which the VirtIO Driver should have included. So, my question is. Can Nutanix AHV support Application Consistent snapshot. Thabnks

Hi, I'm struggling with backups while using KVM. We've been using snapshots for our standard backup process and these work just fine within the cluster. I can recover a VM either as a new clone to retrieve lost files or to directly replace the original in case of a major crash. My next problem is exporting those snapshots to another cluster (since DR isn't available for KVM yet) or to a non-Nutanix archival server. That appears not to be possible. Everything I've been suggested so far involves backing up the VM internally or copying the iSCSI device with dd which would involve us having two completely separate backup processes running in parallel. Not fun. Is there a way to export the Nutanix drives to another server? Logically they must exist somewhere so should be copyable.

Does anyone know if/how I can get a count of all vDisks in my cluster, including vDisks associated with snapshots? We want to increase our data retention and it appears the limitation on snapshots is the number of vDisks so I need to figure out how many we have with our current number of VMs and snapshots. Running AOS 5.6, NCC 3.5.2, Hyper-V 2012r2. Any help appreciated, please let me know if there's more info I can provide. Thanks! David

Hello, When I try to do a consistent snapshot I get this: Warning : Vss snapshot failed for the VM(s) xxx, protected by xxx because Quiescing guest VM(s) failed or timed out. Impact : Crash consistent snapshot is taken instead of application consistent snapshot. Cause : Guest is not able to quiesce VM due to internal error. The servers has the NGT installed, are alone in the consistency group. Before I open a case, I'd like to have your hindsight. Thanks.

With this new product comes a change to how Veeam licenses their products. All new products released this year will be per VM only and socket licensing is gone. As I understand it, customers who already have socket licenses will be able to renew their product, but what if they jump to AHV? I'm pretty sure Veeam counts this as a new contract as you purchase Veeam with your Hypervisor type. This means you too may likely move to a per VM model of licensing. But, isn't this a good thing? Doesn't it reduce my costs? That is up for debate per environment. I just wrote my Veeam account rep about this licensing change and gave him the reasons why I don't want a per VM licensing model as a Veeam customer. Here's a copy of that message.
