We are moving away from VMware over to Acropolis and I was wondering what others have been using to backup their VMs under Acropolis, 3rd party wise? Under VMware, we had been using Veeam, but this is no longer a choice.Any comments/suggestions would be helpful.

Thanks for the response. I am actually in talks with them now. Looks like a nice easy solution. Also talking to Rubrick who have a similar solution.

There was only option until recently - CommVault Last week Rubrik announced Alta that now supports AHV - we have just ordered one Brik. The problem is Rubrik isn't cheap but it is amazing. The cool thing is with Nutanix guest tools
there's no VM stun when performing a backup, which is useful for backup during production hours.
Thankfully, Veeam is getting on board with full support for Acropolis. A quick search will show you lots of reports of this, but the details are fuzzy. Not clear yet exactly when or which of Veeam's products will have the support. I've seen that it is expected this year and definitly part of the Veeam Availability Platform.
The word is on the street that Veeam will have AHV support in Veeam Availability Suite v10, due Q1/2018.
+2If by "this solution" you mean HYCU, according to the HYCU BLog they are leveraging Nutanix Volume Group APIs in version 3.5, and Nutanix volume groups attached to virtual machines are automatically backed up within the VM backup process. I have not tried it myself, though.

But mow I'm a little bit confused because the HYCU BLog article say that Volume Groups are supported, but on the compatibility Matrix (HYCU compatibility Matrix the iscsi is marked as N/A (as target) and the know that VMs generated from OpenStack internally use VG as iscsi devices.
Anyway today I sent the question to both HYCU and Veeam.
I will update the blog as soon I will find a solution.

iSCSI actually has a check mark in the Hycu target compability matrix, the "N/A" is in the "notes" column. Please note that a Hycu target is where Hycu writes its backup data to and is completely independent from the entities that are backed up.

Another great option for Acropolis backups is vProtect by Catalogic Software. The best part about it for us is that it integrates directly with our existing IBM Spectrum Protect environment. I can push the VM backups straight into Spectrum Protect for storage. It can also backup directly to NFS, Local File System, and several other destinations. I can even manage my snapshot schedule from the UI as well.
