Enable the Welcome Banner on all CVMs

If your company hardening policies require to show the welcome banner on each CVM each time a user logs in, you can disable it, make the necessary changes per our Security Guide (https://portal.nutanix.com/#/page/docs/details?targetId=Nutanix-Security-Guide-v5_16:Nutanix-Security-Guide-v5_16) and then reenable it. The following KB 8534 has the complete procedure and the commands needed to apply the banner changes in your environment.

Two clusters sharing the same subnet for network segmentation ?

Hello, I’m trying to configure two AHV clusters (3 nodes) for replication. Both environments are running AOS 5.11.2 on HPE DX360 Gen10.   The network environment is spread between two stacks: one stack dedicated to the storage with 10Gb interfaces and one stack for the LAN with 1Gb interfaces. There is no connection between these two networks. After the deployment of the nodes and the configuration of the clusters, I start to configure the Backplane Network with the following parameter: Subnet: 172.16.250.0 Netmask: 255.255.255.0 VLAN: 202 Host node: br1 The backplane network of the first cluster works without any problem. When I do the same (with the same) for the second cluster, it fails. It says that the IPs addresses are already in use.  I would like to specify a VLAN/subnet where both clusters have their backplane IPs so I can use the backplane network for the replication between both clusters.   I hope this is clear.   Kind regards,   Fred

I’m trying to reconfig my ip addresses for the cvm but i cannot find the external_ip_reconfig script anywhere.  Do I have to download this from the site?

Seeking documentation on new Acropolis installation

I have a cluster running on an NX-3060-G5 with XenServer hypervisor that I want to completely rebuild on Acropolis. I’m looking for documentation on how to do this. Our original cluster was built by a Nutanix engineer onsite and I recall he had to install the foundation software on another machine, but I don’t recall all of the steps he took. Can someone point me in the right direction?

Network Segmentation - Backplane VLAN with Gateway?

I'm will be configuring Network Segmentation on my Nutanix Cluster as per these instructions. https://portal.nutanix.com/#/page/docs/details?targetId=Web-Console-Guide-Prism-v510:wc-network-segment-on-existing-cluster-wc-t.html The VLAN that I put my backplane traffic on, does it matter or not if I have a Gateway for that VLAN? I would use 172.16.10.0 as the Subnet IP and 255.255.255.0 as the Netmask. I am planning on having a Gateway of 172.16.10.1 on the firewall. Currently, the default configuration without network segmentation, the management and backplane traffic on eth0 has a gateway so as far as I can tell, everything should still work if I have a gateway for backplane traffic. Could someone please confirm that it doesn’t matter if I have a gateway on the backplane VLAN or not?

Is it possible to deploy Nutanix nodes without Foundations Tools?

Hi, I am new here and this is my firts experience with Nutanix. I need to deploy 3 nodes, and I’ m going to use the native Hypervisor from Nutanix (AHV). I saw a video explainning that,  to do it, it’s necessary to download and use the Foundation Tools to configure the cluster and than, gathering access to PRISM. Unfortunally, I can’t download Foundation, due to the Nutanix blocks were registered by our customer (message: ...The email XXXXXXX is not authorized for the account associated with the serial number YYYYYYY) and we don’t know who did it. We are trying to identify who registered the blocks but, meanwhile, Is there another way to deploy it without the Foundation tool, or is there a way to unregister the blocks and register again but to different user account?   Thanks in advance,

After AOS Update Health Page Error (java.lang.NullPointerException)

I completed an AOS upgrade from 5.5.2.2 to 5.10.8 on two different clusters.  On one cluster I have the health page showing a warning symbol (no data) and the message: “An error has occurred. Show me why” When I role over “Show me why” I see the message “java.lang.NullPointerException”.  I have a ticket open with Nutanix but haven’t received any solutions that have worked yet. Appreciate help if someone knows how to resolve.

IPMI not connecting

When i try to connect to IPMI by clicking on the link in Prism Central i get an error stating the site can not be reached because it timed out.  It seems to be related to the firewall maybe.  Any information where to start? thank you

NX-3060-G4 - Cable to Core Switch

Hi, We have a NX-3060-G4 with 3 VMware hosts on that is currently connected to our Cisco core switch cluster using 10GB twinax cables. A long story short, I need to remove these and connect the NTX to a single 1GB Cisco switch (WS-C3850-12S-S). My question is: can I connect a 1GB SFP link between the NTX and new core switch using the 10GB NTX ethernet port? If so, will the NTX detect that the cable connected can only run at 1GB?   Thanks in advance.

dvPortgroup not visible in AOS

Hello, I'm trying to create a File Server. I did this in Prism Element cluster. I have a problem when I had to select the Client Network PortGroup All my dvportgroup are not visible. I can only see the dvportgroup attached to a dvswitch with uplinks assigned. In my vCenter we have a dvswitch with no uplinks assigned. This dvswitch is used by my network sdn solution which transport the client network. Modify extra flags on VM

I am trying to make changes to the "extra_flags" option on a VM. I have 2 issues. Is there a way to remove and "extra_flag" added to a VM? Also is there a way to specify the CPU model. I see there is a way to do it in KVM, but not sure how it works in Nutanix. I am trying to do nested virtualization, but for some reason nested VMs don't boot due to the xsave/xsaveopt feature it seems. The host is quad SandyBridge CPUs, but it worked when I specified the CPU model as Westmere. Anyone else have this issue or have an idea of how to specify the features passed through?

Specify the installation disk

Hello, I have a personal Lenovo Thinkserver, which has a 4 Seagate 2T Disk (3 of them are formed Raid 5) and 3 SSD (256G+128G*2). I don't want to lost my personal data. Is that possible to install the Community Edition on the specified Disk 256G SSD + 1 Seagate 2T HD for testing purpose?

AOS Installation failed with error "because dependencies not met"

Hello All, I tried to install AOS 5.11.2 with foundation 4.5.1 but I faced from some issues. The system consists of 01 Bloc NX-3060-G4 with 04 nodes. VM NIC modes: access and trunk

By default, a virtual NIC on a guest VM operates in access mode. In this mode, the virtual NIC can send and receive traffic only over its own VLAN, which is the VLAN of the virtual network to which it is connected. A virtual NIC in trunk mode can send and receive traffic over any number of VLANs in addition to its own VLAN. You can trunk specific VLANs or trunk all VLANs. You can also convert a virtual NIC from the trunk mode to the access mode, in which case the virtual NIC reverts to sending and receiving traffic only over its own VLAN.   Trunked NIC can only be added via acli. It is not possible to distinguish between Access and Trunked NIC modes in Prism UI. You can create new NIC for the VM to operate in a required mode or you can change the mode of an existing VM NIC. BMC upgrades

Well, we all know how important firmware upgrades are and it is done using our LCM framework. In case of single node clusters, we do have to do our firmware upgrades manually as LCM framework does not work on them.  Here let’s take an example of doing BMC upgrades manually. Tasks List shows an incomplete task

I recently upgraded my CVMs from 16GB to 32GB. Normally I do this from the CLI but yesterday was curious to see if the command Configure CVM in Prism could handle it. The process ran forever and eventually the progress reached 83%. I came back from lunch (forgetting that I had started that process) and started on resolution of some other NCC check failures. At some point I stopped and started the cluster and it was at that moment that I thought about the CVM memory upgrade task. Prism showed it still at %83 in both Task List and Configure CVM progress bar but the VM view showed all three CVMs at 32GB. So my theory is that I jacked up the running Task List somehow??? Is there a way to "reset" the Task List to get rid of that hung task?
