So - I have been trying to get some sort of automation of my Ubuntu VM creation in Prism, either by setting up a template machine that I would later modify using cloud-init custom scripts, or even better using a custom cloud-init script at creation to run through the “Ubuntu autoinstall”  I have tried a few times now to install an Ubuntu server by clicking my way through the GUI and then using the resulting .yml file to try and install a VM from scratch… Using “clone” from a template I can use a custom script to change hostname and so forth, but still having some problems changing the network settings (saying they are disabled by system.cfg). I guess I will be able to figure that part out eventually, but my main goal is to be able to register a new machine in Netbox, and from the info I have entered there automatically create a cloud-init fileand use that to trigger VM creation in Nutanix…  When I try to create a new VM - mounted with the Ubuntu 20.04.4 installer ISO and a 100GB disk -

Hello,I need to create several Windows Server 2019 standard, virtual machines that run in AHV (Nutanix cluster of 3 nodes nx-3170-g8, with 2x16 cores in each node) hosts that i need to buy licenses for. But i do not seem to find a calculation method for licenses).I found that i can go for per core licensing of physical cores (3*2*16 = 96 cores) which would help reduce costs since the total number of virtual cores that need to be configured is more than 200 v-cores.i would like to confirm if this approach is correct? i.e. licensing the number of the physical cores of nutanix appliances? and if anyone did it successfully?Thank you in advance,

I read that we can able to export the AHV VM in OVA format via Prism central GUI if we have both AOS and Prism central supported version. I need to know is there any way to do the same via PRISM CLI. If so,please share me any link for that. Thanks. -JAI

I’m trying to uninstall VMware tools from VMs running on AHV version 20201105.2244. I am following the KB to uninstall VMware tools: Unable to Uninstall VMware Tools in Windows after Migration by Move from ESXi to AHVI mount the ISO in windows on the VM and run the ‘setup64.exe /c’ command and immediately notice EventID 1000 and 1005 in the application logs. They are application errors not being able to launch the VMware installer process. I have tried this on two separate VMs on different clusters. Hi,I’m trying to update a Nutanix env, from Prism Element. Using the web, in LCM, I see version 5.20.2 being in there, but when trying to upgrade to 5.20.3, I get the following error:Update of nutanix.nos failed on 192.168.0.2 (environment cvm) at stage 1 with error: [Failed to perform AOS upgrade with error [Preupgrade task [57c7e9a1-ebc9-495d-a848-2ead17251730] failed/aborted with message Version 5.20.3 is same as the current version 5.20.3]]LCM is at 2.4.4.2. New to Nutanix and trying to understand HA for management like in VMware.  In VMware we setup vCenter HA with an active/passive/witness.  Is there something similar in Nutanix?

HiI'm hoping someone has a similar setup.  We have a 2 sites connected by fast links with one Nutanix cluster at each site (16 nodes in each cluster).  We use Metro availability to replicate between sites.  We have 1 stretched ESXi cluster hosting mainly Window servers.We have a number of VM guest failover SQL clusters (2 nodes in each cluster)  which require shared storage and therefore require the use of Nutanix Volume groups.  Each VM is connected to the volume group via ISCSI.We can't use Metro replication to replicate these VMS and their associated volume groups to the other site as you can't replicate volume groups with Metro availability - it's not supported.So, the only other option is to use Async replication.  Here are my questions:In the manual the conditions for Async say  "Do not have VMs with the same name on the primary and the secondary clusters. Otherwise, it may affect the recovery procedures"Q: If we failover the async protection domain containing the cluster node VM

Hi all, I’m trying to create additional admins accounts with LDAP authentication on Nutanix. I’ve got clusters up and running, got LDAP working, and the generic RBAC ‘VM admin/VM read only’ etc accounts (that I’m creating) are all good. But I thought Nutanix had added the ability to create a full cluster admin with AD authentication rather than creating local ones on something like prism central now? Or am I mistaken? (If someone has a way of doing this, it would be much appreciated). Kind Regards,SiW

I used X-Ray to do a performance testing for the Nutanix cluster. After added the target, and I do a Peak Performance Micro benchmark test. All the process has worked well. but when the performance testing is running, there is no I/O performance graph, only display the 3 graphs as cluster CPU usage,cluster network received, and cluster network transmitted. I cannot find the I/O performance information from the graph. I have meet this kind of problem many times. and the x-Ray version is 3.11.As the beginning test, the timezone is not right and I have ever adjust the time of X-Ray VM. 

HiI used X-Ray 4.1.3 to do a test of VM High Availability in a cluste which includes 6 Lenovo HX nodes installed ESXi 7.0 U2, I tested several times and all are failed. The test failed in the phase of after poweroff the Host and reestablish the workload in 120 seconds. All are time out in 120 secs. I checked the VM which has already HA to another host, and the VM is already restated and the IP already obtained. So this is the timeout issue. seems if the timeout  value is larger, the test will be successfully. but I cannot find the place to adjust the 120 secs value.My question  is “ Is there any way to adjust the 120 sec value for the VM high Availability test”? 

Hi All,I want to test block storage, file storage and object storage. How many nodes are needed for the minimum cluster size? Is there a recommended configuration？

We keep our test cluster up-to-date with the latest STS versions.Unfortunately, by doing so, I cannot upgrade from 6.0.2.5 to 6.1 as it is not supported.Upgrading from 6.0.2.4 is supported.I have two questions, one, when will I be able to upgrade to 6.1 from 6.0.2.5?Second, should I lag a version or two behind in the STS track to make sure I am not blocked from taking a major upgrade?Thanks!

Hi We have 2 sites with fast links between them with 1 Nutanix cluster on each site.  All the hosts are running the ESXi 6.7 hypervisor. We use Metro availability so we have 1 ESXi cluster stretched across both sites. Currently Prism central runs on a VM in located on hosts in the primary site in a Metro availability enabled container\DS.  We looking into scaling out our Prism Central installation from 1 node to 3 nodes. Ideally I was thinking we could spread the Prism Central nodes across the two sites, perhaps by having 1 node on site 1 and 2 nodes on site 2. However, the Prism Central scale out manual states the following: “All scale out Prism Central VMs must run on the same cluster. For example, running two VMs in cluster_1 and one VM in cluster_2 is not supported".   Is this referring to one ESXi cluster or one Nutanix Cluster - I just want to be sure? Thanks in advance.

Looking for anyone that has been successful with installing windows 11 on Nutanix AHV?I have tried, in my VM creation i have selected UEFI and Secure Boot. What I can’t seem to get to is how to enable TPM? When VM boots there is no way to get into bios to enable TPM. So how do you do that?Thanks 

Morning,We have a 5 node cluster using the Lenovo HX series hardware (ThinkAgile HX3521-G).We changed our IMPI range after the installation had completed to an out of band IP range that all our IPMI NICs sit on. I made the change in BIOS and then restarted the genesis services on each node via the node CVM.The Genesis restart appeared to be successful.However when I look at the nodes in the hardware section of Prism element the IPMI address is showing up as a a generic self assigned 169.254.x.x address.What would be the best way to address this?Im new to Nutanix so forgive me if I have missed something super obvious...thanks Graham

You have a nice OVF or an OVA image and you are ready to deploy that virtual appliance to AHV. There is just one more step required. Well, maybe more than one. It is not possible to import OVA and OVF files to AHV. Extraction of the files of the image as well as upload of the VMDK files is required prior to deployment.Please follow instructions provided in KB-3621 AHV: Import OVA and OVF image

We got three HPE DL380 Gen9 Server with the HP RAID-Controller H240ar Smart HBA 2-Port SAS 12G on which HBA is enabled.Accordingly to Nutanix this RAID Controller is compatible and should work:https://portal.nutanix.com/page/documents/details?targetId=HPE-Hardware-Firmware-Compatibility:mod-DL380-8-G9-r.htmlDuring the middle half of the installation via Foundation, we get the following error:StandardError: This node is expected to have exactly 1 AHCI controller. But phoenix could not find any such deviceAfter a quick search I saw this KB-Entry:https://portal.nutanix.com/page/documents/kbs/details?targetId=kA00e000000LIWmCAOI also made sure to set the SATA Controller Options again manually and rebootet the server multiple times. Also the boot order is set accordingly to the KB-Entry. But I still get this error and phoenix isn’t able to see any AHCI controller via fdisk -l.Do you have any ideas what else I could try?
