I’vejust set up AFS 3.5.5, I’ve enabled SMB protocol and the FS joined AD. The home share has not been created! Why?  

I'm new to Nutanix and learning as I go. I'm looking at monitoring and alerting and noticed an alert that has not auto resolved. The specific alert is: Node Marked To Be Detached From Metadata Ring I've run ALL NCC Health Checks on the node and it comes back healthy. This alert is set to auto resolve but for some reason will not resolve. I check policy and the auto-resolve checkbox is checked. I did some digging and found a KB article (#000004269) for alert_auto_resolve_helper. I read about this NCC check and I don't see this as an available check in my environment. Any thoughts and tips are appreciated. Thanks!

Hi, My customer is considering leveraging NearSyncDR for their production clusters. Looks like I have to explain to them how NearSync should be configured and how it works to match their needs for future plan. As it matters, I have dived around Nutanix portal for some documents related to this technology but nothing explains clearly why it should run by its behavior in the example below: In the case I configured a schedule that repeats 1 min and retention policy of local cluster for 5 days, NearSync will work as that it will: Create a snapshot per minute and retain it for 15 minutes. Create hourly snapshots and retain for 6 hours. Create daily snapshots and retain for 5 days. So the question is if a snapshot A was created and deleted in 15 mins later, in the case user wanted to use this snapshot A to recover his file, how did he do? Is snapshot retaining time able to be changed by any command?

Hi, I'm planning a 3 node Lenovo 2320-E node. The most it will ever grow, is to a 4 node. Each node has a 4 x 1/10Gb BaseT network card (IMM/IPMI) connection is separate. Hello all, i'm trying to build a very simple home lab so i can get through the NCP cert, hopefully prior to our new nutanix gear arrives at my work. at home i have an i7 8700k, 16gb of ram, and several HDDs. i also have a NAS device. i run windows 10 on my one available machine. my issue is this: i can only feasibly spare 12 gb of ram, and i dont have a dedicated 200 GB SSD, but i have several terabytes of HDD storage available. is it possible for me to get a home lab up and running with this config? using VMWare Workstation or something similar? thanks, Tony

There appears to be an issue with the latest Powershell Cmdlets for Version 5.11 that reports itself as Version 5.1.1 (not 5.11) so there is a mismatch. This will bring up a Warning dialogue box asking you if you want to continue with this mismatch (Cluster Version 5.11 and CmdLets Version 5.1.1). This can affect any Powershell Automation Scripts you have running that will be waiting for user intervention! You can change the Nutanix Connection method to Force the Connection using the following syntax: Connect-NTNXCluster -Server "Your server here" -UserName "Your user" -Password "Your password" -AcceptInvalidSSLCerts -ForcedConnection Note: It is the ForcedConnection that enables the bypass of the mismatch for your scripts. Hopefully they will update the Version with the next iteration of the Cmdlets without the apparent typo of 5.1.1 instead of 5.11. Please feel free to "Like" to mark as "Best Answer"

Hello, I will need to power off a "Metro Standby Site", which has VMs running on it. I would like to manually migrate those VMs to the primary (active) site and Shut down / Power Off the nodes in the Standby site approx. 24-36 hours. All VMs need to be running on the active side and no VMs are to be restarted (RTO + RPO =0). Can you use a FC card in one node of a Nutanix cluster to do a storage Vmotion / migration to the New esxi Hosts in the cluster ? FC card will present the current VMFS partition to the new esxi host running in the cluster .Then storage vmotion the vm's across to the new storage( NFS partition in the nutanix cluster ) Is this possible ? Prefered option as NFS would only be on a 1 gig network and we need to do this quickly Any input will be appreciated ?

For a nutanix cluster to be able to install a newly released hypervisor, the information about it must be already in iso_whitelist file.  This file can be downloaded from Nutanix portal (search for ESXi 6.7 U3) and is required when installing/upgrading hyperviosr using prism one-click.ESXi 6.7 U3 (built number 14320388),  has been out as of Aug, 20, 2019. It is Nutanix policy to support newly release hypervisors within 90 days after they are release by the hyperviosr vendors.As of this writing (Nov 18, 2019), nutanix has released the iso file for this release and is supporting installation of this built on Nutanix clusters 5.10..6 and above.Below is a public KB regarding the support for this release:

At the end of guest OS installation the VM is rebooted but it doesn't automatically boot to the vHDD. How can I set it to boot automatically from the disk with installed guest OS? By default, AHV uses CD-ROM as the first boot device for VMs, followed by hard disk, then NIC. Please follow steps described below to override this behavior and choose a specific boot device. Things to consider:CD-ROM or hard disk can be selected as boot device in Prism UI. Network adapter can only be configured as boot device via acli. Selecting NIC as boot device may be required to boot VM from PXE server. Power cycle is required to apply boot device change. Resetting or rebooting VM is not enough. If boot device not explicitly selected, then all VMs will try to boot from all CD-ROM devices. If all CD-ROMs are empty or do not contain bootable image, then VM will only try to boot from hard disk with lowest

I am having an issue adding a share to a new AFS instance where it reports “iSCSI discovery of targets failed to iSCSI portal xxx.xxx.10.5. Ensure that the stargate external data services IP and the CVM IPs are reachable from FSVM.” I have confirmed the CVM IP’s and FSVM IP’s are all bound to the eth0 interface of there respective devices and are all in the same xxx.xxx.10.xxx network segment.  All devices can ping all IP’s in the range so at least basic comms are working. I am sure I am missing something obvious but not sure where to go from here.  Suggestions please!
