Is it ok to install Nutanix Guest Tools in a guest vm template before the template is Sysprepped? I need to deploy a bunch of Server 2008 r2 VMs that will need NGT. I'm aware that it's easy to automate NGT install AFTER vm deployment and I do that for most cases; however on Server 2008 r2 builds there's a techinical limitation that prevents this from working. So I'm wondering if there is anything in NGT that will break if the vm is Sysprepped afterward.
Hi, We just fired up a 3 node cluster HX1310 with AHV. Trying to keep things lean and mean... When a Windows guest needs more CPU, is it "better" to go with more vcores or more vcpu in AHV? I'm asking from a performance perspective and perhaps licensing perspecitve..... Thanks, G
The customer I currently support has a pair of Nutanix clusters running on the Dell PowerEdge XC630-10 harward platform. They have really enjoyed the performance and overall gain (simplicity of the design, reduction in administration/alerts, etc.) since moving to the Nutanix platform. The topic of a server refresh has arisen, and we're beginning to collect all the different metrics we will need to analyze to support this effort. After that's done, though, the planning and designing will begin. In the past, I've used the Nutanix Sizer. That since seems to be locked away behind a Nutanix/Partner Login page now? Does this still exist? Is there one that supports the Dell hardware platform line? Any other workload sizing resources for the theoretical migration planning would be much appreciated. Thanks, in advance!
Hello Is there an estimated certification date of SAP on Hana or S4/Hana on nutanix? Regards
What is the best approach to migrate data to a nutanix hyper-v failover cluster from a normal hyper-v failover cluster. I used export from the old host (Whitelisted in PRISM) and it succeeds fine but as the data is exported to the cluster FQDN, how do I know which node to use to import the files to make best use of data locality? is there a way to have the VM exported to a specific node?
We have a fresh Windows Server 2012R2 VM that we ran CHKDSK /SDcleanup on. After running for a period of time, the server VM turns off with no errors logged other than the fact that it was an unexpected shutdown. At first we thought something was corrupt, and since it wasn't in production yet we decided to just recreate the VM from scratch. Immediately after creating the new VM, we ran the same command and got the same results. It crashed while running on the C: drive running on boot up as well as on the 4tb data drive with zero data on it yet. So far we have been able to duplicate it everytime. We have a Xen Server with a Server 2012R2 VM on it and there is no issue running this command. Any ideas? Driver issue? Thanks Steve
Buddies, Good morning! What I wonder to know is with docker swarm cluster runs on nutanix in detail. Can Acopolis container service support swarm or only support rancher? Thanks. Ricky
Dear Expert, My Nutanix environment as per below: 4block of Nutanix ( 8 Node ) connect to Nexus Access Switch with 10G SPF cable. Hypervisor: VMware 5.5 Issue: from vCenter we detect the host keep disconnected randomly. and vCenter become HANG Workaround: Ping continuously on Host. Result No packet drop can you please advise what need to do Regards, Hamballi

Hi All, Just wanted to let you know that using traditional SQL failover clusters and SQL FCI, or any MSCS / Microsoft failover cluster is available in tech preview as of NOS 4.1.5. This is because we have introduced SCSI 3 Persistent Reservations to the iSCSI stack. To implement a cluster you need to use the MS iSCSI Initator and the Nutanix Volume Groups contract and iSCSI target for in-Guest iSCSI access. This will become a full GA feature in an upcoming release of NOS. Please experiment with it and let us know your thoughts.
Hi Expert, I plan to relocate my Nutanix Box to another rack. can someone help me or guide me the proper procedure for this activity, below the details Hypervisor: ESXi 5.5 Nutanix Box: 4box Node: 16 node How can I perform the proper shutdown. I a bit confuse with some article from google
Hello All, I am new to "Nutanix XCP, One basic question regarding the Raw device mapping in Esxi using the Nutanix infrastructure. Is RDM mapping supported in the Nutanix Appliance4.6 (Nos)? If yes, Can you please share the procedure to Create a RDM (Physical mode)?.. Thanks, Bhoopathy
G'day one and all, We're a new nutanix site and have been migrating machines from our previous HyperVisor over to Acropolis/KVM. Our older servers have been no problems at all, 2003 and 2008 servers. however all our 2012R2 servers are having problems where the storage drivers are not being seen. To test I have tried a new install ont a VM from install DVD. Driver load screens comes up and I point it to the correct location on the nutanix VirtIO drivers ISO image. All drivers are seen, i.e. shows the correct drivers to load, but when selected and goes to load the drivers, and error stating "No new device drivers were found. Make sure installation media contains the correct drivers" The VM Disk is configured as scsi Regards, stephen...
Dear Community, I have an issue. I'm installing a Windows 2008 standard (not R2 nor SP1) on a AHV cluster and then I need the virtIO drivers. It works fine for the iSCSI passthrough driver and the baloon. But the Networking adapter is failed. It says drivers are not signed and cannot be verified, I bypass the warning and then it says there is an error, driver corrupt blablabla. I have tried the latest Nutanix virtIO without any luck - whatever OS version, they all failed. any magic idea ? Thanks 😉
Hi all, I created a document describing how to upgrade ESXi on the XC platform for a customer. It uses the Dell iDRAC specifically. If anyone has feedback on anything that was missed or could make things easier I'd appreciate it. [list=1] Move VMs and place host into maintenance mode[list=1] From vCenter Web Client navigate to Hosts and Clusters Select the host to be upgraded Click Related Objects and Virtual Machines Select all running VMs except CVM and migrate to another host Once all VMs have been migrated right click the host, select Maintenance Mode and Enter Maintenance Mode SSH to the Nutanix CVM on the host Run the following at the prompt: cvm_shutdown -P nowLogin to iDRAC of the ESXi server Default user: root Default pass: calvinClick Launch in the Virtual Console Preview section Click Run twice and accept any errors on the Java applet Click on Virtual Media then Connect Virtual Media Click Virtual Media again and Map CD/DVD … Select virtual media Click Brow
Hi All-I am in the process of creating some MSCS SQL Clusters on Server 2012R2 . In the applicable documentation in regards to using iSCSI-based VGs with Nutanix. Also read Mike Websters information about hot expaning the disks associated with those VGs in an upcoming software release, really nice! My question is about how I break the I/O over the multiple VMWare P/V SCSI controllers currently. If I followed the instructions in https://portal.nutanix.com/#/page/solutions/details?targetId=BP-2049_Acropolis_Block_Services:BP-2049_Acropolis_Block_Services Wouldn't all the I/O go over the default and only SCSI controller for that VM? I am trying to distribute the I/O for logs, tempDB, etc over multiple SCSI controllers. It was worked well in our environment in which we leverage RDMs and would like to try to repeat this on the Nutanix side. Can you let me know if this is feasable and the best way to achieve it.
I'm new to ntnx and have a what I hope is a simple question. Is it possible to access the nfs data store from inside a vm that is running in the ntnx env? i have a vm that will need tb's of storage but I don't want to create giant vmdks for it. Chris
I've just written an article about the official VMware vRealize Operaitons Management Pack for Nutanix that was published by Blue Medora. If you'd like to check out the management pack and also the content pack for Log Insight, here it is - http://longwhiteclouds.com/2016/09/18/vmware-vrealize-management-packs-for-nutanix/.
Hi all, We have a 3x node Dell XC630-10 Cluster running on AOS4.5.0.2 - Starter License. These nodes are running a Dell Customised 5.5U2 VMware image. I want to upgrade these nodes to a Dell 5.5U3-A04 image build 3248547. This will have to be done manually as we do not have DRS running (Standard VMware license). On top of the image I want to patch them to "Patch 8" level - release date - 04/AUG/2016 (Patch 9 available now). However reading the Hypervisor FAQ it seems that major/minor vSphere releases are supported and QA certified within 90 days of GA. Therefore my question is: After applying the Dell 5.5U3 Custom image then, in theory, I can only apply Express Patch 10 build 3568722- 22/Feb/2016? Comments are much appreciated.
Hi all, I have a requirement with one of our migrated servers to retain its original MAC Address due to licensing. I've migrated the machine only to find these requirements post migration, so the Question is how can I change the VM MAC address? Thanks, Stephen...
I'm running NOS 4.7.1 with vSphere 6.0 and loving the seemless vm migration to the remote site using Metro (for a planned outage). Is there a way to perform a failback just as seemlessly - no downtime? After reading through Mike McGhee's v2.0 Best Practices document I wasn't able to find if this is possible or not.
Hi all, Just wanted to check if anyone else is having issues with PRISM stops collecting CPU and Memory Stats from the Hyper-V hosts themselves. The issue seems to be somewhat sporadic and I havn't been able to Pin-Point any specific operation nor any specific time. Restarting the NutanixHostAgent helps to resolve the issue until it stops collecting again. We are currently running 4.6.1 and are using Logical Switches that perhaps might be one of the problem. When this happends the Runway function in Prism Central stops working properly so while it is a "cosmetic" issue it still affects other functions inside of other Nutanix Functions. Kind Regards
I've had an intermittant problem with some 2012 VMs I had migrated that have been locking up after a random time, usually going to 100% CPU and all IO stops. VM Console is unresponsive and network not reachable, reset is only solution to bring back online. It would then run again for a number of minutes, hours, even a day or more only to do same thing again at a random time through day or night, so was no logical patten to it. I endup tracking it down to a timezone config issue, when rebooting the VMs in question the timezone would set their clock to the hypervisior host time, which was in a different timezone (default TZ nodes were shipped with) to the the host VM TZ. I had a similar problem in the past, although not with the host lockups, where a number of hosts would lose time sync and be out by the TZ difference between host and VM on our Citrix XenServer Cluster hypervisor host. Because our VM are on an AD domain they will be out of NTP adjustment range becasue time differen
Does anyone have some experience with running SAP on Nutanix, doesn't matter if it runs on HyperV or VMware. Oracle or MS SQL is ok. Just looking for some feedback and best practices. Kind regards Bart
