We just set up AFS. On the home directories, we expected that like a Windows home directory setup, the user would be the only person able to view their home folder. (and Domain Admins of course). But, on AFS per this doc https://portal.nutanix.com/#/page/docs/details?targetId=Acropolis-File-Services-Guide-v20:Acropolis-File-Services-Guide-v20 and also per our experience it seems like ALL USERS can view everybody's folder and contents. This seems like a security problem since HOME directories are typically expected to allow only the user to view their data. Is this by design? It seems like a significant security challenge and much different from how this would typically be set up on a Windows file server.
Hi, I am not able to get Data Resiliency status using Rest api version v2.0. I see for v1 it is https://server_ip:9440/PrismGateway/services/rest/v1/cluster/domain_fault_tolerance_status Using v1 as well I am not able to get this metrics value. Please help us in getting Data Resiliency status using Rest api version v2.0. Regards, mallikarjuna
Looks like the Foundation VM OVF/VMDK files are no longer available from Portal > Downloads > Foundation. Anyone know where they are hosted now? I have a remote bare metal installation scheduled and I'm dead in the water. Even the Foundation 4.3 Field Installation Manual released less than a month ago still references downloading the VM OVF/VMDK files from the portal where they don't seem to exist anymore.
Dear all I have a problem with Prism service. Now i have created new Cluster with 1 node in VMware and all Cluster services has been started. But from Client computer i still cannot login to console. Please have a look attachment for more detail. Hope to receive any advice. Hi Team, Previously we are using apiversion v1 and getting metrics using /vms https://hostname4:9440/PrismGateway/services/rest/v1/vms/ Now with api version v2 we are not able to get below mentioned metrics hypervisor_cpu_usage_ppm not able to find this with both urls(vms, virtual disks) hypervisor_memory_usage_ppm not found memoryCapacityInBytes not found ipaddresses not found but found requested_ip_address are both same?? controllerVm not found Able to get few metrics using virtual_disks and above mentioned metrics we are not able to get, Are these not available in v2 or modified to anyother url. Please let us know how to get these values using v2 apiversion.
I’m planning to move a Windows Server 2012 R2 Datacenter Edition VM from Hyper-V 2012 R2 to AHV on AOS 5.10.2 today. I have created a similar (but not cloned) test VM in the environment and migrated it yesterday with no issues. UEFI worked fine. Today in my final prep I’m seeing that in newer versions of the Nutanix documentation (AOS 5+) that this migration and VM type (AHV with UEFI) is listed as Limited Support and “Not recommended for Production”. Is this a showstopper? Are other customers moving important production Gen 2 UEFI Hyper-V VMs to AHV? We are using the ASync Data Protection between two sites to replicate our VMs. But that is only taking a new snapshot of an existing VM and replicating that snapshot. I would like to have replication setup for some of VMs so that the VM and all of the snapshots we've made of it outside of Data Protection are replicated as well. We may need a very specific state of a VM at our remote site. Using only the Async DP snapshots won't fully meet our needs. Is there any way to do this with the existing Nutanix software? I'd rather not purchase something third party to solve this problem.
Hi, I have troubles to use Prism API v3 using the reference guide. For exemple I don't see the different possible options for an attribute. I explain myself with a quick example: If I want to create an alert with api using the reference guide below https://developer.nutanix.com/reference/prism_central/v3/api/alerts/postalertsnotify the attribute "notification_type" is required and must be a string. But what kind of value is expected here? I need to know what are the possible values, and what does mean each value. This is just an example, but it is the same for all other API end point. At this point API becomes a headache for me... Do I miss something here? Thank you for your help
Dear all, I have previously asked, but it was wrong forum, i have existing cluster with Dell XC630-10 4 node, and i want to expand capacity in my cluster, but my team can only buy new hardware ( dell XC640 ) cannot buy dell xc630-10 again, can i expand my cluster with different hardware? and please advice about the step to expand my cluster
Hello all I'm trying to establish the optimal disk layout for a VMware MS SQL 2016 2 node guest failover cluster that will have a single SQL instance hosting multiple small to medium sized databases. Unfortunately we don't really have the funds for licensing to do the recommended approach of creating lot of small VMs to host these databases, so we need to consolidate where possible. I've been reading though the Nutanix SQL 2016 best practice guide and it's raised a few questions. I've decided to allocate multiple vdisks specifically for database files, so I'd have a few database files to each vdisk instead of one vdisk with all the database files on it. I'm assuming this approach might be better due to each vdisk having a 6GB Oplog allocation and so more vdisks would prevent a single oplog from quickly over filling? Is there any there real a benefit here to having more vdisks to spread the databases across or does this only really come into play when you split indi
Would I be able to create storage containers in my cluster for the purpose of "pinning" VMs only to hosts that are assigned to the containers - restricting VMs to the hosts that belong to the container? The need is to control VM migration during Software Upgrades due to multicasting issues with the hosts.
Is it possible to mix,

3 node All Flash NX-3360-G5 &

4 node Hybrid NX-1465-G5
and form a AHV cluster ? NX-3360-G5 is 2*10 core CPU, 12*32GB Memory, 18*1.9TB SSD whereas NX-1465-G5 is 2*10 core CPU, 8*32GB Memory, 1*960GB SSD, 2*4TB HDD how storage tearing will work in this scenario ?
I'm trying to get a better basic understanding with regards to controllers in a VM farm's data path. We are going to be in the process of migrating some of our farm resources to another data center which may include powering down controllers in a rolling fashion. What type of service interruptions would users expect to see?
This cluster is not registered to any vCenter server. You must register a management server and enable DRS before you can create a VM.
I'm running nutanix 126.96.36.199 with esx ,when i create vmware machine，it's prompts “ This cluster is not registered to any vCenter server. You must register a management server and enable DRS before you can create a VM. ” Is vcenter installed directly on the node node ，then register this vCenter and enable DRS? Thanks in advance,
Hello again CE community! I'm running a Dell R730 with these specs: 2 Sockets 8 Cores Each Socket 256 GB RAM I'm running ESXi to run a 4-node cluster and want to parcel the CPU and Memory evenly among the 4 CVMs. Q1: Based on this, what should my CVM CPU/RAM settings be? Q2: When I allocate vCPU and RAM for VMs, how do I translate a bare-metal config spec e.g. 4x WS2016 8 CPU, 32 GB RAMto Nutanix VM specs, based on these constraints? I just need an example to shine light on how to break down the physical to esxi to nutanix CVM to VM specs. Thanks in advance, Brit
Yesterday our Nutanix CE cluster suffered a node loss (onboard NIC went offline somehow, investigating), HA failover performed correctly, but I had Zabbix monitoring cluster API 2.0 which did not state there is a problem. The only difference was that the host stopped being visible in the discovery by its proper name and remained only by IP, every other reading were "normal" and "not degraded" and even cluster state was reported "normal" during host effective downtime. WTF?! Also, WTF is with re-posting a question to another forums when asked to? Do you maybe have crosslinks allowed to ask the same question in a different subset of forums?
Hi all, I have a customer running two DCs, using veaam to replicate VMs between sites. They are renewing the infrastructure at Site 1 and are looking to adopt EMC storage for native (recoverpoint) host aware SAN to SAN replication. Until they update the infrastructure running on site 2 they will need to continue using Veaam in the interim. I'd like to recommend they take a look at Nutanix however first need assurances that they can continue using Veaam to replicate between ESX on Nutanix & ESX on legacy. The idea would be to then go full Nutanix at both sites (once site 2 is refreshed), swap out to AHV and live the cross site replication dream :) Advice appreciated! Thanks Patrick
Hi All, I did use Nutanix CE on a standalone server before for testing and for backup recovery test. Today I was trying to install the new CE version ce-2018.05.01-Stable. The previous version I used was CE0-2017.05.22-Stable. Now the hardware is same. 1x 240 GB SSD, 2x 500 GB HDD, 3x 1TB HDD. 128 GB RAM Boot from USB. 3x 1 TB drives are in Raid0 - Storage 2x 500 GB drives are in Raid0 - ISO's 1x 240 GB drive is in Raid0 - OS - (I tried this with Raid and with out raid.) this time when it is checking the disks it says "MinimumRequirementsError: A set of disks matching the minimum requirements was not found" is there any changes to the minimum hardware requirements with new version of CE? Please help me with this. Thank you, Krishna
Gents, I have alerts in PRISM " Upgrade NGT version on VM to latest " to all VMs. Must I start one by one ? what's steps should I do ? Is there any effect in VMs ? *Note: VMs in production
