Hello Folks, I`m busy installing a 6 node cluster, some errors or doubt comes out along. my environment : 3 block, 6 nodes (2 nodes/block) AOS 4.6.2 一. When I create a new container, make the Enable Erasure coding button checked, error pops up"enable EC-X will break the current block awareness !" seems mean ECX will disable block level awareness ? 二. As many of us know, if need locate the physical slot location of a disk, you can simply led on that drive. but there is possibility led on function inaccurate or disabled, in this scenario, you must locate the disk by disk id rule, e.g shelf id.slot/bay ID, but the DISK ID in prism hardware section seems ramdom/ruleless number, I can`t locate physical location for a disk. 三. Good day, Quick question regarding Exchange on Hyper-V, I havn't been able to iron out all the questions regarding the support for Exchange on Hyper-V where the .VHDX files resides on the backed SMB3 part. From a Microsoft stand-point they support .VHDX files on SMB3 as long as it's backed by block storage, but I havn't been able to verify that Nutanix actually goes under the "Block-Storage" part, on my own mind it should. There are a few documents where Exchange on Hyper-V is mentioned, and in those SMB3 and iSCSI are both mentioned but no on what part (SMB3 for OS, iSCSI for Databases or in fact VHDX on SMB3 for databases also). VMWare is rather straight forward, Volume Groups to be fully supported by Microsoft, period. But what is the stand-point regarding Exchange on Hyper-V where databases are .VHDX on SMB3 from a Microsoft and Nutanix perspective? Kind Regards

Hello, I`m not new to nutanix, but have a long time not focusing on nutanix installation step. while I installed nutanix with foundation+Phonex(NOS location selection)+Hypervisor image one year ago, I think Phonix is just exactly NOS at that time. I find it seems to have new method to image node: Foundation+AOS(NOS location selection)+Hypervisor image, or even having an JAVA applete+Foundation+AOS(NOS location selection)+Hypervisor image I`d like to confirm detailed difference between NOS , AOS, and Phoenix. Hello everyone, my environment: 6 * 3060-G4 NODE per node : 2*ssd 480G， 4* HDD（how to find out if it`s sas or sata drive ?）1TB RF=2 --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- how to calculate? I see prism report 22.18TiB MaxCapacity(Physical)。but I think physical should be 1T*4*6+480G*2*6=24T+5760G if RF2 need two complete copy(like RAID1) ?, the usable capacity is just half of 24T+5760G, and if after one node failure, for N+1 , I should also reserve another extra node capacity(4T+480G*2) ? also I have a basic question and guess, if I have three NODE in all(assume not 6 node ), and one node failed, lost data will be replicate to another any node of remaining two, because of RF. so I have two copy again. but if the second node also fails later(now I have only one node), will the cluster be down ? data lost ? I think data shouldn`t be lost because one of the two copy exists(3 node ,2copy-> 2 node 2copy-> 1node 1copy)

Dears, I found I can`t find ESXI 6.0U2 and AOS4.6.1.1 release in Nutanix compatibility online tool. but I can find ESXI6.0U2 in the iso whitelist json. So It make me confused Which release exactly can be supported by nutanix ？ Finally, I install ESXI6.0U2 and AOS4.6.1. I·m not sure if Compatibility tool is just a best practise or not up to date timely. Can I simply always install newest ESXI version and NOS ?

We're in the process of deploying our new VDI environment, using View 6 & UniDesk ontop of our Nutanix MetroAvailability Clusters. We will be balancing the number of production desktops running at both sites to spread the load around (we'll have some containers active in site A, some active in Site 😎, and want to ensure VM's do not get vmotioned to the 'standby' site. Although we do have significant bandwidth (10Gbe via dark fibre) & low latency (~1-2ms) between sites, we'd like to avoid the additional overheads where possible. Is there a way for us to easily create DRS rules within vSphere to ensure VM's on Active Containers at Site A should always run on those hosts & vice-versa for Site B? I vaguely remember coming across a PowerCLI script somewhere that did this (or something similar), but have been unable to find it again. Ofcourse it would be amazing if this could be natively handled by Nutanix, but for now i'd be happy with a script we can run on a schedule to update

Hello we have a brand new cluster (4 nodes) and did some failover testing over the weekend prior to placing the new gear into production. We have 2 cisco 4500x 10GB switches and have the nodes split between the two switches for redundancy. We simulated a switch failover by pulling the plug on one of them and experiened some very bad results. Some CVMs became unresponsive and we lost connectivity to most of our VMs. Has anyone else experienced a similar issue? Or can anyone point me in the right direction for configurations to double check? Would appreciate any insight!

Using AOS 4.6 on Hyper-V. I will setup Hyper-V host to join Domain. When read manual, I think setup_hyperv.py change Hyper-V hostname. Is it correct? I already name Hyper-V host. How to run setup_hyperv.py? Thanks

What I've red in documentation is that Backup does not allow running the virtual machines on the remote site. This comes with many questions as I couldn't find any detailed description of the backup mechanism. As far as I understand, both works exactly the same. Only difference is that on the remote site, the backup target PD cannot be promoted to allow running of the VMs. Is this correct ? is this the only difference ? Otherwise, what are all the differences between both modes ? Any impact on the size of used on the target space ? ...

Hi All , How can I verify the total RAM use on specific VM using Nutanix AHV?

Thoughts I'd post this rather than bugging our SE over and over ;) Trying to get a disaster recovery plan in place to protect against a major disaster such as server room fire... We have a couple of clusters geographically separated which I have set up as remote-sites. Site A and B lets call them. I've set up a PD w/ consistency group with the VMs to protect and periodically snapshot from site A to B. Now in the case of a fire/destroyed cluster at site A... obviously step one is rebuilding a cluster at that site with the appropriate configs, but then... With a brand new cluster in place, what is the standard process to retreive the snapshots from site B back to the new site A ? So far, I've activated the backup on site B (as if it was an unplanned outage and left it off). and recreated the remote-site link on the newly built out site A. I am thinking I now create a new PD to shuffle the VMs/consistency group back to Site A and then activate there and I am done ? I know this

Hi there, we just upgraded to Prism Central using the ESXi OVA, and during creation noticed that there is a 500GB 3rd disk set to thick provisioning. This caused some space concerns on an already tight container, so I flipped it over to thin provisioned although I didnt really want to :) A couple questions.... is this 500GB drive 3 normal? I dont remember having these space concerns with the prior PC install. Any forseen issues with the thin provisioning? other than possible space not available as the disk expands. Appreciate the comments/thoughts.. ..BRent

I've searched and cannot find documentation on maximum vCPUs, RAM and disk can be allowcated to a VM on Acropolis. Also looking to see if there is a limitation to how many VMs can run on one host. Can someone point me in the right direction?

All Nutanix containers are thin provisioned by default; this is a feature of NDFS. Thin provisioning is a widely accepted technology that has been proven over time by multiple storage vendors, including VMware. As containers are presented by default as NFS datastores to VMware vSphere hosts, all VMs will also be thin provisioned by default. trying to connect the maxCapacity and totalImplicitReservedCapacity fields with data from Prism gui. As of yet, unable to connect the dots. I'm assuming the amounts being presented from the cmdlet is in bytes. Hi All, According to my material on hand that Nutanix will keep a copy in local storage for local data required. So if there are some storage intensive VMs running in one node and the local storage in that node is not enough for data of all local VM, some data should still need to be retrieved in remote node? would like to know the exact behavior. And one more question for DR. If I use vsphere, I still need to buy SRM license or SRM is optional (e.g. for some dedicated features?). Hi all! I'm currently working on a Nutanix Template for Zabbix that I will share with community once it's finished. I've a little problem with some SNMP answers Zabbix receives from prism. I'm asking for OID 1.3.6.1.4.1.41263.11.1.3.1 This OID is the cstControllerVMStatus.1. It should return Up or Down if the CVM with index 1 is Up or Down. When I run it in Zabbix, the answer is "55 70 00". Is "55 70 00" a value that means 'Up'? In this case what is the value for 'Down'? Regards,
