Nutanix Move: Which VDDK File Should Be Selected for Upload?

Forum|alt.badge.img+3

Sorry for this noob question but in the instruction says VDDK library. When I select the tar file the upload fails. If I unzip the folder I am not sure what file to select. Any tips?

Nutanix Move 6.3.3 introduces DirectPath, a new migration method that transfers virtual machine (VM) disk data directly from VMware ESXi to Nutanix AHV without requiring the VMware Virtual Disk Development Kit (VDDK).

Hey,

Tip 1: This is the CE forum so it might not get the visibility of all the Move experts.

The documentation is here of you haven't’ seen it: https://portal.nutanix.com/page/documents/details?targetId=Nutanix-Move-v5_4:top-upload-vddk-library-t.html

There’s also this great YT video with the whole VM migration process, thought I’m not sure if it covers VDDK:

Hope that’s helpful.  Someone who knows the details about VDDK will hopefully be online later.

Hey Mat thanks for replying, I’ve seen that video and it's super simple. What was missing from that video is the step when adding the vCenter connection it will ask for the VDDK. The document also is well written, but misses the detail about what file type or specific file in a sub-folder is needed. I really thought it would be the .zip that is uploaded. I also made sure I downloaded the file that is recommended.

Have you downloaded the windows zip by mistake?  I needs to be the linux version so something like xxxx##.x86_64.tar.gz.  The MD5 checksum should also be available too.

For some reason it was failing on my Mac, but when I did the same thing on my Windows box it worked.
