Hi everyone,

We are currently assessing our migration strategy to move workloads from VMware to Nutanix infrastructure. However, we recently noticed that public access to the VMware Virtual Disk Development Kit (VDDK) has been restricted/removed.

Given this recent change, we have a few questions for the community regarding how it affects Nutanix Move and our upcoming migration plans:

  1. Impact on Existing Integrations: Does this restriction impact any already running or existing VMware integrations with Nutanix Move, or is it strictly limited to new deployments/re-installations?

  2. Obtaining VDDK Files for New Setups: If we want to deploy a new Nutanix Move setup today, how can we properly acquire the required VDDK files? Do we need to raise a support case or request direct assistance from Broadcom?

  3. Functionality After Upload: Once we manage to source and upload the correct VDDK file into Nutanix Move, will all migration features and functionalities (such as Changed Block Tracking / incremental syncs) continue to work as usual, or are there underlying limitations we should expect?

Any insights, workarounds, or shared experiences from those recently navigating VMware-to-Nutanix migrations would be greatly appreciated.

Nutanix Move 6.3.3 introduces DirectPath, a new migration method that transfers virtual machine (VM) disk data directly from VMware ESXi to Nutanix AHV without requiring the VMware Virtual Disk Development Kit (VDDK).

  1. No negative impact on already running migration. It works as it always worked.. If you dont already have the vddk raise a support ticket. If you already have the vddk files you can use them offcourse.
  2. So if you dont have them already, create a support ticket.
  3. YEs they continue to work. This is how move already works for a coule of years.

Hi Jeroen Tielen,

Thanks for quick response.

I request more details on raising a support case.

  1. Do i need to raise support case with Broadcom or Nutanix
  2. If I raise a ticket, will Nutanix provides us the VDDK files for integration.

Start with nutanix, they will give you the information how to continue. I dont know if they will give you the vddk, but in other topics, here in the forums, nutanix employees responded with raise a ticket with nutanix.

Thanks again Jeroen Tielen.

I would like to understand if I raise a support case with Nutanix, will Nutanix guide/help me to continue with the integrations or suggest the process to obtain the VDDK or any other possible ways to perform integration.

Are you running community edition or are you running the commercial production version? If CE we and nutanix cant help you. If commercial, just raise the support case and find out ;)

Hi @Shanmugavadivel.Mahali
Broadcom removed public VDDK download pages on August 25, 2026
I’d recommend raising a Support Case!

And YES! once you successfully acquire the correct VDDK and upload it into Nutanix Move, all migration functionality operates exactly as before .
