We have the following senario at one of our customersIn the core there are 4 VSP8400 connected in a square. Two of the devices are in a Geo Redundant Datacenter.Between the links is an Extreme L2 SPBm fabric.Between the data centers the connections run over active DWDM devices.A measurement showed that if I deactivate a DC connection in the core, it takes about 400ms until the opposite interface reacts over the DWDM connection and also goes down.In the 400ms, however, traffic will still run over the link to nothing. Now my question:Do you see a problem on the Nutanix side if the switching time is 400ms or are there possibilities to adjust the sensitivity (buffer) of the Nutanix Datastore synchronization to the circumstances?
Hi, I'm trying to import a VM using hyper-V manager but it is always saying "can't access folder, you might have not permission to access this folder" and tried to check all VMs and the same issue shows up. Any idea why this error is there? I'm thinking about modifying the permissions on VM folder, can we? knowing that i'm trying to access the VM folder from container share path [example: \container_name.........] We are running hyperV2012R2 on nutanix 4.7.1 Thank you, Pierre
We are looking to do application-consistent snapshots of VMs running recent releases of RHEL, CentOS and Windows Server on AHV. However, the following document indicates that releases such as RHEL 7.4+, CentOS 7.4+ and Windows Server 2019 are not yet supported: Conditions for Application-consistent SnapshotsIs anybody having any issues with application-consistent snapshots for these releases? Some of these OS versions are not even that recent - RHEL 7.4 was released in August of 2017!
Operating System : MS Window 2012 serverHypervisor : AHVIssues :A windows server with the above mentioned OS is running on Nutanix Cluster (AHV). The VM is not able to access via the PE while launch console it show a black screen. However, its still able to RDP into the server and the applications is still be able to access. But after awhile i presume all services went down and the above is not viable anymore. Have to hard reset the VM, after which the virtual machine power up and its not able to detect the virtual disk (the virtual disk is still physically within the cluster). Have to repair the operating system and reinstall the virtio drivers to recover the disk. This happen often, can i check if there are anyone who have experience it and also have a resolution to it. I have did some research online. Seem like its the VirtIO having problem . Will need to install the latest KVMnet drivers but i do not if this actually applies on AHV (as its based out on KVM) . Appreicate any inputs
Hello All, I have 01 NX-1065-G6 block including 3 nodes. AOS Version : 5.10.5 AHV Version : 20170830.279 After a power outage, I would like virtual machines to start automatically in a predefined order; for instance, domain controller first, Exchange server secondly, and so forth... With ESXi I can do this in a very simply manner. How to do this with AHV ? Please help. Thanks.
Hi, I'm a little bit new a Nutanix, however since last summer I can handle it very well Now I got a question wich I want to share here. I have to prepare a windows server. The requirments of the software wich will be hosted on this server preverene dedicated CPU and memory. So is this in the nutanix (AHV) installation posible to create a VM with his own dedicated CPU's (6cores) and memory? Regards Peter
HelloI am interested in the possibility to get a VM memory dump for further analysis (list of processes, sockets, other artifacts). How to do it if using the KVM hypervisor (Acropolis).I need to create a dump on a running VM for analysis. A detailed description of the procedure is required. If I understand correctly, all VMs in Nutanix are kept in the form of files, which files are VM dump files? Оr does Nutanix have a special procedure for creating and downloading a complete dummy file(s) of a virtual machine?OS doesn't matter, it can be anything. Please tell me the information to understand this issue.
Processing power doubles endlessly, it seems, and become less and less expensive. Applications, at the same time, are developed with less of resources efficiency in mind and thus demand more and more resources. And so the spiral grows. While in most cases it is not an issue and performance is not impacted in some instances you have to squeeze performance out of your environment. Possible scenarios include:VMs or applications where traffic packets are relatively large. VMs/apps with multiple concurrent connections, where network traffic moves between guest VMs on the same host, guest VMs across hosts or to the hosts themselves, or from guest VMs to an external system. To provide relief to vNIC RX packet drop rate increases (per KB 4540 - Handling packet drops from vNICs in AHV) where CPU contention of guest/host has already been ruled out.For those particular instances, there is a solution. This is not a “turbo” button. Do not use this for all your VMs. Rule out other sources of conten
I'm trying to move our vms from one cluster to another but the built in remote site don't work so now I'm trying to manually move the vmdisk files to the other cluster but the NFS connection stops working after a while. I have tried to mount the NFS share in a ESXi server but the transfer errors out after a while. Now I'm trying to use qemu-img to convert the vmdisk and move it, but it fails with : qemu-img convert nfs://127.0.0.1/default-container-49239103706845/.acropolis/vmdisk/81cd6231-e421-441c-850c-9124adf565d0 -O qcow2 ./dns-export.qcow2 & NFS Error: NFS: Read failed with NFS3ERR_JUKEBOX(-11) qemu-img: error while reading sector 4202495: Resource temporarily unavailable Is there any logs that will tell me what is happening with the NFS connection?
Hello. I’m a long time vmware guy, but due to a merger our esx cluster is getting migrated to a nutanix AHV cluster before long. I currently run rhel 7 and 8, with virt-who registering directly with RedHat. I patch our few dozen nodes generally with scripts or manually just depending. In researching RHEL on Nutanix, it looks like their provided virt-who only mentions satellite server. Our company although large, has classically been too cheap to purchase it. Can you use the nutanix virt-who without satellite?

Hello All,I am new to Nutanix and AHV; however, I have a large amount of experience with Hyper-v and SCVMM. One of the things I am trying to do is automate the creation of a vm’s. My end goal is to take an “image” base drive I have uploaded to images containing an install of my windows OS.Deploy a new vm with that image, have a static IP assigned to the new vm automatically from a pool of IP’s, join my domain, and run a few powershell scripts in the VM. I would have done this all with an IP pool and a template in SCVMM and as much as I have read about templates in AHV I am not seeing anything like it. Am I missing something here?Do we have a resource on how to configure something like this?
I am trying to install the Nutanix virt-who v1.1 rpm on RHEL 6.10 to talk to Red Hat Satellite v6.3. I have installed the virt-who rpm with its dependencies except for systemd (which does not exist for RHEL v6), installed Python 2.7 from the Software collections rpm, set the “scl enable python27 bash” in /etc/rc.d/rc.local, changed the virt-who script to point to that instead of /usr/bin/python, but it fails to run. I have determined that the failure is do the the ‘require’ in the python script not finding the virt-who libraries. To replicate that, I can run “pip -v list” and see that virt-who is not listed.Has anyone gotten past this? Thanks, mark
Does AHV supports MSCS ? I am aware about two node windows cluster with witness VM mentioned in below : https://portal.nutanix.com/#/page/docs/details?targetId=Web-Console-Guide-Prism-v58:wc-cluster-two-node-c.html But just want to confirm if it supports MSCS with shared storage including quorum?

Environment: Windows Server 2019 version 1809 (core and with graphical user interface). At the moment I am working for a customer to do migrations to Windows Server 2019. Since the migration of the virtual environment by the customer from VMWare VSphere 6.xxx to Nutanix AHV, version 20170830.412 I have the following problem. Before the installation I could work with the Window Admin Center on a Windows Server 2019 without any restrictions. After the installation the Windows Admin Center can be opened, but several error messages appear: Error messagesPerformance class not found:CPU performance class not found on this computer.Remote Exception: The property 'Product' cannot be found on this object. Verify that the property exists. Type: ErrorRetrieve user settings and extensions: RemoteException: The property 'Product' cannot be found on this object. Verify that the property exists. This means that no more data is displayed in the overview and the Tools bar of the Admin Center is on
I ugraded my ESXi hosts using 1-click upgrade to VMware-VMvisor-Installer-6.7.0.update03-15160138.x86_64-DellEMC_Customized-A04 with no issues. Trying to apply patch ESXi670-202004002.zip using 1-click upgrade and get the following error: Upgrade bundle is not compatible with current VIBs installed in hypervisor. [DependencyError] VIB QLC_bootbank_qedi_2.10.19.0-1OEM.670.0.0.8169922 requires qedentv_ver = X.11.15.0, but the requirement cannot be satisfied within the ImageProfile. I am able to successfully patch using esxcli and update manager. I updated the image profile to DellEMC-ESXi-6.7U3-15160138-A04 on the hosts thinking that may resolve the issue but this did not work. Anyone have any suggestions to get 1-click upgrade to function with 6.7u3?
Hi All, I am trying to migrate one Windows 10 PC to Nutanix Acropolis. I tried to run a full backup with Veeam endpoint and tried the baremetal recovery in to Nutanix and that did not work. I tried this method for almost all of our servers (but they are already on nutanix) to restore into our test environment (running Nutanix CE) with out any issues. But this time I am doing it with Physical device to virtual and did not work. So is there any other method to do this. I see a lot of topics here mentioned vCenter converter but I never used it. Is there any particular steps I need to be careful about when using that tool. Thank you,
Hello Folks, I see usually after satadom replacement of Hyper-V reinstallation we get errors in Live migration related to processor specific features. You can looks at the KB-6617 “Live Migration of VMs fails on Windows Server 2012 R2 or 2016 with processor compatibility error” We have couple of more KBs and Documents on Hyper-V live migrations you can check based on your error KB-3639 Shared Nothing Live Migration in Hyper-V Might Fail if it Takes More Than 10 hours to Complete KB-2247 Hyper-V: Live Migration, Configuration and best practices. Hi everybody we are just in the beginning of the process of migrating our environment from VMWare to AHV. One of the scenarios that we need to consider for one of our application sets involves cloning an entire drive from a build server to a reporting server. Essentially right now I have a server that takes data and compiles it into a finished product on an intermittent basis. When the server completes it’s build it calls another script that clones the drive to a reporting server. Our reporting server has duplicate drives 1 online and 1 offline, the script overwrites the offline drive, then gets the drives to swap online state so that our clients are now reporting on the newly refreshed data. I am looking to replicate this concept and am hoping for a few pointers. In our existing environment I am making use of some of the storage commands for the disk clone. I am hoping to understand how to replicate the disk clone from an AHV hosted Windows server. Would anybody have any sugge
There was a thread back in 2016 regarding getting VM activity events logged in Prism (PE or PC). Events such as powering on and off a VM should be displayed in PE or PC so we can try to track down when a reboot may have occurred easily. This has been a core VMware vCenter function for ages, but is glaringly absent in Prism for AHV. My company is in the middle of the AHV conversion right now, and my teammates are asking me how to find out about these events. I don’t really like the idea of giving untrained folks access to the “nutanix” account on the CVM to look at acropolis.log. In the 2016 thread, someone said enhancements are coming to Prism. Are they still coming?
How To enable nested virtualization on AHV?
When creating a vm there is a scripting section that has the option to select a file from an ADSF Path. How can I put files to an ADSF location?
Hello, If you use balance-slb, how does one figure out which physical is being used by one VM ? For instance, with ESXi I’d run esxtop, and I can see which physical nic is being “mapped” to my virtual nic. Is it possible with AHV? If yes how ? I think it is important when you troubleshoot.
