Hello Dears , I want to migrate file share from unity to nutanix file , what is the recommended way to migrate and save all permission with migration ? What is the best practices for performance if migrate one folder 18T to standard unified storage ?
Is there any way to perform this activity in Element or Prism?Using the console interface doesn't allow it.
Hi,Im working on a project where we need to deploy a new Nutanix Files instance on a new AHV cluster. The customer already has an existing Nutanix Files deployment running on an older AHV cluster that will be destroyed as soon as it is migrated. Also as part of the project we will have to migrate the existing shares and data from the old Files environment to the new one (as well as from other FS not related with nutanix files).I would like to clarify two main points:1. Deployment method: Prism Central vs Prism ElementFor a new Nutanix Files deployment, is it currently recommended to deploy and manage the File Server from Prism Central / Files Manager, or is it still preferable in some cases to deploy it directly from Prism Element? My understanding is that Prism Central / Files Manager is the more modern and centralized approach, especially when managing multiple clusters or using newer Files features, but this scenario means we have only one prism central and one cluster so I would like
HiI’m trying to deploy Nutanix Files from a brand new cluster using Prism Element: … but I got this error: The cluster has access to internet, I’ve loged in to a CVM and I’ve done pings to google without issues. So I assume connectivity to nutanix should not be a problem... am I doing something wrong? Also why I just see the 5.2.1 as the available compatible versions? My AOS is 7.5.1.1 and compatibility matrix shows it is compatible with Files last release 5.3.0.1 Finaly, in case I need to upload the Files bundle manualy (like if it was a dark side), which should be the correct way to do it? I assume I have to download the LCM bundle from nutanix portal and upload it to the PE LCM... Is that correct? Thanks
i have created a root share name as ABC and I have 4 subfolder names as A1, B1, C1, and D1, i have create short cut of all 4 subfolder and it shows to user as root folders.i want to apply disk quota on 4 subfolder names as A1, B1, C1, and D1, please suggest
Hi,I need to deploy a Nutanix Files service on a 3-node AHV cluster. The goal is to replace an old Windows File Server, so once the deployment is done I will need to migrate all the data to the new Nutanix Files setup. While reviewing the Nutanix documentation, I’m a bit confused about the deployment requirements. Specifically: How many IP addresses are required for Nutanix Files in this scenario? From what I understand, the minimum seems to be around 7 IPs 3 for FSVMs 1 for Data Service 1 for VIP 1 or 2 for internal services Why is it recommended to place those IPs in a separate subnet/VLAN? I’m not sure if this is mandatory or just a best practice. Thanks.
I’ve deployed Nutanix Files using Prism Central, but I can’t figure out how to properly shut down the File Server. When I deployed Files via Prism Element before, I could SSH into the CVM and run afs infra.stop to stop it, but that doesn’t seem to work here. Also, when I check the file server list from Prism Element, nothing appears—so I’m wondering if the CVM doesn’t recognize it as a File Server in this setup.I searched for information but couldn’t find any clear instructions for shutting down Files from Prism Central. If anyone knows the correct method or best practice, please share.Environment:Prism Central: 2024.3.1.2 AOS: 7.0.1.5 FSM: 5.2
Good Morning ColleaguesI hope you are doing well . One of our customers has Nutanix Files as you can see in the below image. May i know if Nutanix Files has integration with Kaspersky as third-party antivirus software? Best Regards
Hello,Before doing a massive change on a share, I would like to manually create an SSR snapshot to rollback if needed.I searched in Files documentation, in this forum, in AFS CLI. Nothing relevant. Someone has an idea how to do this ?Thanks
Tried to deploy File Analytics VM about a month ago on my community edition cluster, it has been stuck since then at the ‘Create File Analytics VM’ task and the whole task is at 40% in Prism Element. I have ran an ‘ecli task.list’ but there are no tasks listed as kRunning or Kfailed for this deployment.
Hello,I’m creating a File server via PrismCentral https://portal.nutanix.com/page/documents/details?targetId=Files-Manager-v5_1:fil-fm-file-server-manage-c.htmlLimitationsFile servers created with the Files Manager do not support the following features:Prism-Element-based disaster recovery (DR), including clone and remote site activation Network segmentation Multi-VLAN It’s clearly written that network segmentation is not supported, but during wizard (and as explained below in the same web page) you can specify a client network and a storage network in different VLANs.What is not exactly supported about network segmentation ?In my cluster, I configured network segmentation with a dedicated network for “Volumes” (iSCSI) traffic. Can I use this network as “storage network” during File server wizard ? Is this supported ?Thanks for your feedback
I’m attempting to create a nested share and I’m receiving the following error “Failed to 'create' mount target due to an internal error 'Share path is invalid'.” The fileshare share is already created. I have attached an image of the settings I am attempting to use. I created a “test” share just to recreate the error. Am I doing something wrong?
Hello Team. Is there a way to check the ip list of clients mounted with nfs in fileshare through the ncli or afs command? Thank you.
I am getting Alert A160143: Warning: File Server Replication Job is stuck/idle,Warning: DR dataset replication job 8 has been idle for 2 hours. Out of the 20+ shares, four shares have replication jobs stuck, three at 0% and one at 90%.Any idea how to stop/restart a file server replication job?(Case# 01799860)

Can you please let me know what to share FOR THE BELOW SCRIPT in the rest API user credentials. And how to create the rest API user. #Files REST API user and file server$user = "REST_USER" $password = "PASSWORD"$PCIP = "PC_IP_ADDRESS" Thanks, Suchismita
Hi I wrote a dutch blog about the possiblity to migratie files to Nutanix Files using MOVEhttps://marcotubben.wixsite.com/marcosblog/post/files-migratie-met-move Happy reading !
I need to migrate a FSVM file server cluster from my older Nutanix cluster to a new cluster. It sounds like there are several options for migrating my file shares that I have listed below. Have you done any of the options below and what would you recommend? 1) Protection domains (Entire FSVM cluster, moves IPs)2) Smart DR (Per Share, moves IPs and updates DNS)3) MOVE > (Per Share, new DNS, and manually update file share configs) 4) Something else? Any insights or experience would be appreciated. Thank you!
Tried getting there from “Files” link in main demo.nutanix.com portal, or from the “Files Console” link underneath Files. This doesn’t affect Files Analytics or Data Lens, except any links that take you to the Files Console will prompt. The admin creds provided don't work.
Has anyone set this up? I am having issues with Connectivity test from Storware/Nutanix Files I think that its URL related but the errors are very undescriptive
Why can't I add a new folder?
Hi, I have seen a previous topic on this subject and noticed JeroenTielen said you need to add the share to the index of the windows machine to have it indexed on that specific machine. but how can you do such a thing when i see in Microsoft forum:Windows does not support indexing network shares. You may still search them, but this is done in real-time without indexing, so may be quite slow. what can i do to make searching in Nutanix shares faster?
Do we need to configure the AD authentication in PE Settings to fully connect Nutanix Files in AD?
Hi, Im trying to create multiple nested shares using the cli. Trying something like this as a testncli fs add-share uuid=UUID name=PI -share-path=/PITEST/PIbut I get this prompt.. Error: Please provide the password (Use -p option) What am I missing? Also is there an easier way to create multiple shares using something like an API? Thanks, Paul
We need REST API to get a list of all deleted files events in the last day per example. We need like this information you can see in UI. What API is used for this? In doc i see something about pulling and events notification, but we just want to query an API from time to time to get the list of events like in the ui, not using push notifications of events.
