Migrate FSVM file server cluster from old Nutanix to new cluster

I need to migrate a FSVM file server cluster from my older Nutanix cluster to a new cluster. It sounds like there are several options for migrating my file shares that I have listed below. Have you done any of the options below and what would you recommend?
1) Protection domains (Entire FSVM cluster, moves IPs)
2) Smart DR (Per Share, moves IPs and updates DNS)
3) MOVE > (Per Share, new DNS, and manually update file share configs)
4) Something else?
Any insights or experience would be appreciated.
Thank you!

Hi,

When you need to migrate the Files instance the best option is configure PD and migrate, this is best way possisble,

  1. Files PD - For Migration, for DR (active-passive, manual activation)
  2. Smart DR - For DR or many to one consolidation.
  3. Move - Migration to Nutanix Files from third-party, (Not sure source can be Nutanix Files )
  4. Manual ways using some free sync solutions and then rename/cutover.

But the best way for migration of Nutanix Files here will be PD based, as it will maintain same AD connections/ namespace and IPs. SO=o although the cutover will require some downtime, you will not have to reconfigure any client connections.

Please do share your experience.

Very helpful. I agree that the protection domain (PD) does look like the way to go however, the only thing that makes me uneasy is that the migration process looks like it deletes the VMs and file share servers on the source cluster. Is that correct? Whereas with Smart DR is looks to be non-destructive. Thank you for sharing your insights!

We used Protection domains, and the migration went smoothly. I had to type in all the old IP address information when activating on the new cluster, but it worked great. the outage was around 30 minutes. Thank you!
