Hi, When running NCC on one of the customers cluster, the following output is generated... FAIL: Remote site: HQ-NTNXNumber of vstores mapped for the local site on the remote site are not same.Refer to KB 3335 (http://portal.nutanix.com/kb/3335) for details on remote_site_config_check or Recheck with: ncc health_checks data_protection_checks remote_site_checks remote_site_config_check Why is it so important to have the same number of mappings? When we are replication from site A to site B, we can use different mappings than when replication is executed from site B to site A. Regards, Bart
Hi all, I created a document describing how to upgrade ESXi on the XC platform for a customer. It uses the Dell iDRAC specifically. If anyone has feedback on anything that was missed or could make things easier I'd appreciate it. [list=1] Move VMs and place host into maintenance mode[list=1] From vCenter Web Client navigate to Hosts and Clusters Select the host to be upgraded Click Related Objects and Virtual Machines Select all running VMs except CVM and migrate to another host Once all VMs have been migrated right click the host, select Maintenance Mode and Enter Maintenance Mode SSH to the Nutanix CVM on the host Run the following at the prompt: cvm_shutdown -P nowLogin to iDRAC of the ESXi server Default user: root Default pass: calvinClick Launch in the Virtual Console Preview section Click Run twice and accept any errors on the Java applet Click on Virtual Media then Connect Virtual Media Click Virtual Media again and Map CD/DVD … Select virtual media Click Brow
Hello everyone, I am wondering if anyone had any insights on how to get a succesful backup with veeam and nutanix and if there is something I am just overlooking. I know I am oversimplifying but I have followed the best practices setup and have checked all of the settings twice but somehow I still get the following error: 12/5/2015 1:30:11 PM :: Unable to allocate processing resources. Error: Provider [{89300202-3cec-4981-9171-19f59559e0f2}] does not support shadow copies of volume [\LSSHARE01LIFE_NTNX01].--tr:Failed to add volumes to the snapshot set.--tr:Failed to perform pre-backup tasks. I could have sworn that if NOS is added to AD then the share can use the VSS. I am frankly not finding any information on this and have gone from logs, to accounts, to verifying the storage. Any insights would be greatly appreciated.
Hi All-I am in the process of creating some MSCS SQL Clusters on Server 2012R2 . In the applicable documentation in regards to using iSCSI-based VGs with Nutanix. Also read Mike Websters information about hot expaning the disks associated with those VGs in an upcoming software release, really nice! My question is about how I break the I/O over the multiple VMWare P/V SCSI controllers currently. If I followed the instructions in https://portal.nutanix.com/#/page/solutions/details?targetId=BP-2049_Acropolis_Block_Services:BP-2049_Acropolis_Block_Services Wouldn't all the I/O go over the default and only SCSI controller for that VM? I am trying to distribute the I/O for logs, tempDB, etc over multiple SCSI controllers. It was worked well in our environment in which we leverage RDMs and would like to try to repeat this on the Nutanix side. Can you let me know if this is feasable and the best way to achieve it.
I'm new to ntnx and have a what I hope is a simple question. Is it possible to access the nfs data store from inside a vm that is running in the ntnx env? i have a vm that will need tb's of storage but I don't want to create giant vmdks for it. Chris
I've just written an article about the official VMware vRealize Operaitons Management Pack for Nutanix that was published by Blue Medora. If you'd like to check out the management pack and also the content pack for Log Insight, here it is - http://longwhiteclouds.com/2016/09/18/vmware-vrealize-management-packs-for-nutanix/.
Hi all, We have a 3x node Dell XC630-10 Cluster running on AOS4.5.0.2 - Starter License. These nodes are running a Dell Customised 5.5U2 VMware image. I want to upgrade these nodes to a Dell 5.5U3-A04 image build 3248547. This will have to be done manually as we do not have DRS running (Standard VMware license). On top of the image I want to patch them to "Patch 8" level - release date - 04/AUG/2016 (Patch 9 available now). However reading the Hypervisor FAQ it seems that major/minor vSphere releases are supported and QA certified within 90 days of GA. Therefore my question is: After applying the Dell 5.5U3 Custom image then, in theory, I can only apply Express Patch 10 build 3568722- 22/Feb/2016? Comments are much appreciated.
Hi all, I have a requirement with one of our migrated servers to retain its original MAC Address due to licensing. I've migrated the machine only to find these requirements post migration, so the Question is how can I change the VM MAC address? Thanks, Stephen...
I'm running NOS 4.7.1 with vSphere 6.0 and loving the seemless vm migration to the remote site using Metro (for a planned outage). Is there a way to perform a failback just as seemlessly - no downtime? After reading through Mike McGhee's v2.0 Best Practices document I wasn't able to find if this is possible or not.
Hi all, Just wanted to check if anyone else is having issues with PRISM stops collecting CPU and Memory Stats from the Hyper-V hosts themselves. The issue seems to be somewhat sporadic and I havn't been able to Pin-Point any specific operation nor any specific time. Restarting the NutanixHostAgent helps to resolve the issue until it stops collecting again. We are currently running 4.6.1 and are using Logical Switches that perhaps might be one of the problem. When this happends the Runway function in Prism Central stops working properly so while it is a "cosmetic" issue it still affects other functions inside of other Nutanix Functions. Kind Regards
I've had an intermittant problem with some 2012 VMs I had migrated that have been locking up after a random time, usually going to 100% CPU and all IO stops. VM Console is unresponsive and network not reachable, reset is only solution to bring back online. It would then run again for a number of minutes, hours, even a day or more only to do same thing again at a random time through day or night, so was no logical patten to it. I endup tracking it down to a timezone config issue, when rebooting the VMs in question the timezone would set their clock to the hypervisior host time, which was in a different timezone (default TZ nodes were shipped with) to the the host VM TZ. I had a similar problem in the past, although not with the host lockups, where a number of hosts would lose time sync and be out by the TZ difference between host and VM on our Citrix XenServer Cluster hypervisor host. Because our VM are on an AD domain they will be out of NTP adjustment range becasue time differen
Hi all, For a customer, I have a many-to-one replication implemented. On the DR-site, I want to back-up all VMs on the AHV cluster with Commvault... However, because the VM's are in a protection Domain, Commvault cannot discover them, so a back-up is not possible... Solution might be to export all vms from the latest snapshot, backup the vms, and delete the exported Vms from the DR cluster. I tried to do this with the Powershell shell cmdlets, but not successfully... Anyone tried this before? Regards, Bart
I am new to our environment and have been tasked with backing up our VM Servers. The backups are scheduled hourly but have not been configured properly (I believe we are missing a backup location, but I have not been able to find where to configure that item). Any help would be appreciated.
Hi , trying to restore a VM from local snapshot to a new VM and error Error restoring snapshot. NFS path 'OL6-11-2R' is not valid any assitance appreciated Tom
Does anyone have some experience with running SAP on Nutanix, doesn't matter if it runs on HyperV or VMware. Oracle or MS SQL is ok. Just looking for some feedback and best practices. Kind regards Bart
Hi Does anyone having experience or recommendation for tuning Postgresql Server Workload on Nutanix? We followed the Nutanix SQL Server Best Practices and Micheal Webster's Recommandations for vDisk and LVM layout at: http://longwhiteclouds.com/2014/11/27/performance-testing-mysql-and-postgresql-with-hammerdb-and-pgbench/ Unfortunately, the Performance does not meet our expactation compared to our old PostgreSQL server running on a NetApp Filer. Out Setup: 3 Nodes Nutanix Cluster NX-6035-G4 with 1200 GB SSD, NOS 4.6.11 vSphere 6
Running DELL XC630 5 node cluster with ESXi 6.0 / NSX Trying to use One Click Upgrade to move from NOS 4.5.2 to 4.6.2 PreUpgrade Check fails with "Failed to connect to Hypervisor managment IP X.X.X.1 Failed to connect to Hypervisor managment IP X.X.X.2 Failed to connect to Hypervisor managment IP X.X.X.3 Failed to connect to Hypervisor managment IP X.X.X.5" x.x.x.1~5 being ESXi IP External addresses - SSH to all ESXi from all CVM on both Internal and External IP works. (also the reverse connection is working) - ESXi reboot / Genesis restart done - fix_host_ssh done - even updated all ESXi root password on CVM (even though unchanged just to be sure) - No Alert/Warning under PRISM - ncc health_checks run_all came out with flying colors. - Identical setup at DR site having same issue/symptoms tail -f genesis.out shows: esx_utils.py:135 Connection to host x.x.x.1 failed x.x.x.1:443 is not a VIM server host_upgrade_helper.py:655 Error in connecting to local hypervisor Stumped and he
Apart from listed pre-requisites before starting Hypervisor Upgrade (ESXi) listed below, had to Disable Affinity Rules under DRS to enable ESXi host go into Maintainance mode and continue update. Got stuck since i did found this part the hard way... 1) Genesis.out log pointed the target CVM owning Shutdown token and not letting it go. 2) Then from vCenter: Manual Shutdown of CVM -> Manually put related ESXi host in Maintainance mode -> Exit Maintainance mode -> Start CVM 3) Go to PRIMS and upgrade continues... and so does 2048... - Koji
Hi All I'm a Nutanix partner in Thailand, when I present Nutanix product in DR feature one question alway arise from the customers who seriously interest in this feature. "How to caculate WAN bandwidth ?", that mean to how effective compression and deduplication of DR feature. I can not find this information on the Google and Nutanix site. Please advise me. TIA.
There appears to me a Management Pack for SCOM 2012 available now http://myvirtualcloud.net/?p=6687 but I cannot find it. Can anyone pls help? Thx, John Bradshaw
Good day, Quick question regarding Exchange on Hyper-V, I havn't been able to iron out all the questions regarding the support for Exchange on Hyper-V where the .VHDX files resides on the backed SMB3 part. From a Microsoft stand-point they support .VHDX files on SMB3 as long as it's backed by block storage, but I havn't been able to verify that Nutanix actually goes under the "Block-Storage" part, on my own mind it should. There are a few documents where Exchange on Hyper-V is mentioned, and in those SMB3 and iSCSI are both mentioned but no on what part (SMB3 for OS, iSCSI for Databases or in fact VHDX on SMB3 for databases also). VMWare is rather straight forward, Volume Groups to be fully supported by Microsoft, period. But what is the stand-point regarding Exchange on Hyper-V where databases are .VHDX on SMB3 from a Microsoft and Nutanix perspective? Kind Regards
Hi, Is there any way that we can monitor a particular VM activity - log file from Nutanix perspective. we keep on getting VM to be rebooted. VM OS: Windows Server 2008 Hypervisor: AHV
I found a problem that can not type a full stop symbol into User VMs under acropolis hypervisor but if I uesd a remote desktop connect to those User VMs It's available a full stop symbol I want to know that in this case it is a problem with IE or AHV.
Anyone aware of a problem when using (unable to authenticate) domain local AD groups in PC 4.6? Worked before we upgraded to 4.6, but seems that a domain local AD group fails.
Is there any change Nutanix will expose API for Third Party to use Nuatnix Time Stream, and snapshot for Backup Solutions like Netbackup. vF.P
