How to change VLAN of VM created in AHV?
I heard a rumor that for 4.1.1.3 the Protection Domain limit will be 100 machines per Protection domain. Any truth to that rumor?
Hi how can i monitor the reason of Container Deployment stuck on kRestarting state
This is really weird, every night we are getting veeam one "Heartbeat is missing for VM" alerts from every guest in our protection domain, in a chain, by host. For instance, one host starts at 6:30pm and is all resolved by 8:50pn, then the next at 12am and resolved by 5am, then the last at 8am and resolved by 820am. We don't have backups going at 6pm (they start at 😎 and the snapshots go all day, hourly, so it can't be those causing it. Seems like some sort of nightly maintenance on the hosts that would be causing the issue. Any idea where I could look to see those logs?
Hi, In 3 block cluster with 3+3+2 node configuration what will compute & storage will be available incase of: RF2 with block awarness / single block failure RF3 with block awarness / single block failure In 5 block cluster with 3+3+4+2+2 node configuration what will compute & storage will be available incase of: RF3 with block awarness / dual block failure Each node has 24 cores, 256 GB RAM, 2 x 480 GB SSD, 4 x 2 TB HDD
My customer reported that in their test, the CPU Usage of AHV VM always consumes 10% higher than ESXi so I am going to find out what is the most suitable reason behind this problem I have searched around and find out this blog below that having a paragraph pointing about hypervisor bottleneck: "The Nutanix Controller VM (CVM) runs on top of multiple hypervisors and delivers excellent performance, but there is always room for improvement. With our extensive experience with in-kernel and virtual machine based storage solutions, we quickly learned that the biggest bottleneck is the hypervisor itself." http://www.joshodgers.com/2017/06/29/whats-next-2017-ahv-turbo-mode/ Is this AHV hypervisor bottleneck or ESXi problem? On the other hand, I have tested by myself on the scenario in which I have built up 2 VMs with the same configuration on 2 clusters having same Nutanix model and run the CPU test benchmark, the CPU performance of 2 VMs are almost the same except for a case when 10
I'm looking for P2V and V2V migration tool or method. Any recommendation?
Nutanix 5.11.2 Ultimate Licence VMware vSphere 5.5 According to the Nutanix Knowledge base Restore Snapshot (2 options) , I shoud get the option to overide the existing vm when recovering a VM via a Snapshot. However I only see the option to restore to a clone (see attached). Can anyone advise?
I have a large number of VMs created with the boot firmware set to EFI. As I understand it, AHV cannot convert "out of the box" The options I have been told include the following:- Use VMware Convertor to perform a virtual to virtual VM conversion to change the boot firmware back to BIOS Use an import tool to bring in the VMDK files over and run a CLI command to accept the UEFI setup Does this sound right? Is there an easier way? Can new VMs under AHV be created with UEFI ?
Hello! Any experience with Nutanix Xplorer tool? I need to install and run this app in order to collect data of a farm of SQL Servers on my customer. I hope to get your feedback and tips.
Hi, I would like to ask if Nutanix support replace SSD/HDD with different capacity. The reason I ask is that I want to keep the certain Hot Data ratio when data growth but without a growth on compute capacity. My concern is that if I just add the NX-6035C could allow me to growth my data, but the SSD may not enough for maintain the ratio of required Hot Data. Thanks.
Hi, I have a standalone ESX 5.1 server with a VM with multiple 2TB (screenshot from WinScp attached below) vmdk volumes. VM is Windows 2008 R2. My Nutanix cluster is running 5.01, NCC 3.0.0.2, AHV 20160925.30 - Starter Edition I am planning to use a Windows 2012 R2 server with WinSCP to get the vmdk files onto the Nutanix cluster container (I have multiple containers) and then use the Image service (via Chrome browser) to upload/convert via UNC to the container. Here are my questions: I'm wondering if there are any limitations on the Image Server when using the Chrome Browser Any potential issues with these vmdk sizes? What is the syntax for the URL to access the Storage Container so I can upload the vmdk without using the UNC? -Figure this one out. In Image Service use nfs://clusterip/Containername/name ofvmdk-flat.vmdk Since I need to upload multiple vmdk files that quite large, can/should I open multiple browsers to get simultaneous uploads happening ? TIA, Gen
Hello, I connected a CE Edition to our nutanix to test async data protection. A snaphot from the remote side always show "processing" in Async Dir -> Local Snapshots -> Row "RECLAIMABLE SPACE" also if the snapshot was done days before so "processing" is suspicous. Is this a known issue, limitation of ce, bug, or config problem. /Greetings René
Hi all, I have a case open for this with Nutanix Support, however, while I'm waiting... I'm wondering if anyone can explain why in a block that contains 12HDDs and 6SSDs (3-node block), only shows disk statistics for the SSDs and no values for the HDDs in the list (all metrics are 0).
Hi, What is default NIC speed assigned to VM in AHV. Unable to find anyting in GUI.
Hi, We are in need to migrate VMs from Dell cluster to Nutanix cluster. Both are AHV based clusters. What would be the best method to achive this? 1. Creating Protection Domain group and migrate OR 2. Adding Nutanix box to existing Dell cluster and migrate VMs. Rgds, Jitendra Ingale.
Hi team, I have created a Protection Domain with one VM. I have setup a daily schedule with a retention policy of 5. When I look at the local snapshots, I shows me the last 5 snapshots that are available. This is the same when I tick the box "Include Expired". When I add up the reclaimable space for these 5 snapshots, the total comes to 143.72 MiB. When I look at the value of "Snapshot Exclusive Usage" for the PD, it tells me 492.48 MiB. Why the difference? On a related question: what is the impact on performance when deleting snapshots? I understand it is a background process, but is there any impact on the protected VM(s) when this is initiated or while it runs? The environment is running AOS 5.0.1. Thank you. Marc.
Hi, Nutanix box is connected to 10G Brocade VDX6720 & customer network is running on 1G Cisco 2960 X series switch. Is it possible to connect these two switches to give access to Customer of Nutanix box?
I'm working on openstack, we are connecting client hosts through VPN. How do I debug that openstack running in my local, I tried some links but not successful. In which way I go...?
While attempting to upgrade from v4.7.1 to v5.x.x, the pre-upgrade fails with the following error: "Cluster name must be in FQDN format." Is there a way to upgrade the name from "CLUSTER" to "CLUSTER.domain.com" without downtime? Or, alternatively, is there a way to perform the upgrade without making this change/ingoring this message? Thanks all!
Every time we launched the backup jobs we were receiving this critical warning: Snapshot status for vstore XXX: Failed. VM "proxy avamar" on vstore xxx has files from multiple vstores yyy, zzz. Skipping snapshotting this VM. The solution is to change the transporte protocol on avamar backup from hotadd to nbdssl. I hope this helps some of you
I am considering deploying a hub-spoke architecture with Nutanix Clusters at 1-2 Data Centers with Riverbed SteelFusion Hyper-Converged Appliances at the Regional Offices (To Reduce Server Footprint and Optimize WAN connectivity). Has anyone on the board deployed this solution? If so, please elaborate on your experiences... Appreciatively, Dholling "MacMan"
Hello, We have just migrated our entire infrastructure to Nutanix. We are in the process of moving an old file server to a new windows vm. We are running AHV as the hypervisor and are on 10GB ethernet. I am experiencing slow network transfers between these 2 VM's on the same Nutanix Cluster. So bad that the IOPS dont regiser above 300 in Prism. Any thoughts?
AOS: v4.7.1 Server Platform: Multiple Hyper-V (2012 r2) clusters It appears that if you whitelist an IP that belongs to either a Server 2016 or a Windows 10 machine, that machine still can not access the SMB share being published by our Nutanix (v4.7.1) clusters. We found this out after upgrading our SCVMM server to Server 2016. At this point, the VMM server can 'see' the shares but can not calculate share size (reports 0GB) and therefore can't manage the share(s). Since then we've tested with multiple other 2016 and Windows 10 machines - all with the same result: added to the whitelist but can't browse the share, even from Windows Explorer. We are looking for confirmation that this is a known issue. If so, can you confirm if it's resolved by an upgrade to v5.0.2?
Our CVMs are configured with 32GB of dynamic memory. Start, minimum and max are all set to 32GB. I'm curious to know why Dynamic Memory is enabled on these VMs? Since the CVM's OS isn't fully Hyper-V integrated, we don't see memory demand from the hypervisor (this is the only benefit I see from leaving dynamic memory enabled on a VM with all values set the same). As an explicit downside, since we're using Dynamic Memory on these VMs, we lose the vNUMA featureset (not that a 32GB VM is likely to benefit from it). Thanks!
