Good Day, I am very new to Nutanix and recently purchased a cluster. It has only been running for about 30 days now managing my network and I am in the process of make some configurations to it. I need some assistance with an error message that I am receiving. I am using AHV as hyper-visor on my 3 node cluster. On this cluster I am running 5 Windows based Server VM's (not using Hyper-V or VMware). I followed the instructions from the Administration Guide by enabling VSS Shadow Copies on the Servers, then installing guest tools on all the servers and creating a protect domain Async DR. My configurations are working and snapshots are being created for my Domain Controllers and Application Servers. However, when a snapshot is trying to be created of my File Server, I keep getting the following error. "Warning : VSS snapshot failed for the VM(s) FS-01 protected by the FileServer in the snapshot (169035, 1563300389081879, 960) because Quiescing guest VM(s) failed or timed out. Impact
I’m in the process of migrating from VMWare to AHV. I was curious if there are any licensing changes in regard to SQL. Do I need to just make sure that I have enough core licensing to run the actual VM or do I have to buy core licenses for every core on my entire 4 node cluster? I heard of something called infinity that I could use to keep my VM on just one node? Thanks for your help!
There are many situations when you might need to abort an ongoing disaster recovery replication job on your Nutanix cluster. You may be deleting the protection domain or maybe you added a large VM to an existing protection domain and now you don’t want to include this new VM’s baseline replication in the existing job, at least not before the weekend. Maybe the destination is running short of space and we need to stop adding to the problem. You can see the replication in Prism, but there’s no button to pause or cancel it. To abort the replication we will need to go to the CLI. This process is covered in https://portal.nutanix.com/kb/3272 SSH to a CVM in the cluster as the user ‘nutanix’, then run ‘ncli’ to get into this interactive CLI. First, list current ongoing replications with this command. You’ll need the Protection Domain name and ID from this output for the next command. <ncli> pd ls-repl-status You’ll need the Protection Domain name and ID from this output for th
It’s five-o’clock on Friday and the database admin has just let you know they’re working on a problem and need to keep last week’s Friday afternoon snapshot until further notice. If you do nothing that backup will expire in about an hour due to the protection domain schedule. How can we make sure this snapshot sticks around? Don’t worry! There‘s an NCLI command for this. You can change that snapshot’s expiration time to indefinite, and it will wait around until you delete it manually later. See the solution in the KB article here: https://portal.nutanix.com/kb/8594 First, you need the snapshot ID and the protection domain name. You can get this from the Prism UI, or from NCLI. To capture these details from Prism go to the Data Protection dashboard, Table view, Async DR tab, and select the protection domain from the table here. In the lower panel click on Local Snapshots and find the snapshot with the right Create Time. The number in the ID column is the snapshot ID you need, alo
Hi, Anyone know the highest supported ESXi version we can upgrade to on the Dell XC630-10?
Trying the veeam AHV appliance, i had a crash whilst taking a backup now am left with orphaned snapshots on a PAID ACCOUNT, and nutanix sends the ball to veeam back to nutanix, so here i am Protection Domain DP-QC-3 has 3 aged third-party backup snapshot(s) and may unnecessarily consume storage space in the cluster. i have a multitude of these and want to manually remove those snapshots, is there a process for this ?
Attempting to add the Hyper-V feature to a fresh Server 2016 VM. I receive the message: "Hyper-V cannot be installed because virtualization support is not enabled in the BIOS" After picking through some very limited search results I attempted to modify the VM using "cpu_passthrough=true", however the error remains. Any advice to get this working? Thanks Andy
Technology landscape is changing rapidly, and IT teams in organizations should embrace the newer technology at the earliest as it would be refreshed in no time. Meanwhile, there are some technologies which are making their presence felt and getting enough attention that every other vendor is willing to launch or have a me-too product irrespective of its Reliability, Availability, Serviceability, and Scalability features. The technology is Hyper-Converged Infrastructure aka HCI. The organization coined and pioneered this is Nutanix Enterprise and a product initially good for running Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) Solutions has become de-facto standard for all kinds of virtualization workloads be it VDI, Remote Office Branch Office (ROBO), Business Critical Applications (BCA), or similar virtualized workloads. Nutanix is about to complete 10 Years in industry, lot of things have changed from its inception as a Hardware Appliance-based Solution to True Hybrid Cloud based solution.
We are currently considering implementing NearSync for a DR with an RPO of 15 minutes. Is there still a cluster limit of 40TB in 5.16? I can't find anything more specific in the documentation. https://portal.nutanix.com/#/page/docs/details?targetId=Prism-Element-Data-Protection-Guide-v5_16:wc-dr-near-sync-requirements-limitations-r.html The restrictions that backup tools like rubrik or netbackup cannot take normal snapshots when nearsync is active should be solved in 5.9 or not?
Looked around for new backup tools and found two interesting ones: http://www.nakivo.com/VMware-VM-backup-replication-recovery-software.htm And second Cloudbacko Cloudbacko shows a screen were a 1 TB is backup in 2 Minutes http://www.cloudbacko.com/en/cloudbacko-advanced-cloud-local-server-workstation-amazon-S3-google-backup-software-benefits.jsp
Hi there, I’m a network guy and this is my first time post here. Sorry if I broke any forum rule. We are having some issue with vServer host on Nutanix, and I would like to see if any experts here can tell the solution of the problem from nutanix stand-point. We have nutanix setup as LACP and connects to two nexus switches(5000) by using virtual port-channel. Sometimes mac address of vServer showed incomplete on arp table in one of the switches, not only one vServer. Then we finally realized that if we shutdown one port of the switch, which mac address incomplete in arp table, the vServer started to work immediately. After we executed no shut, the issue was back again. We checked the issue from switch stand-point, but couldn’t find any issue. Is anyone know the issue can be related to Nutanix? Thank you.

You have a new Nutanix solution configured using ESXi hypervisor and you’re facing issues with Networking like packet drops and NIC configuration. You want to check if you have quite a lot of RX/TX errors in the NIC or if your NIC is flapping. You might also want to check the VLAN and MTU configuration or how vmkernel port(vmkX)is configured. Troubleshooting is fun if you understand the architecture and know the commands. We have a knowledge base article to guide you regarding troubleshooting network issues on ESXi in a Nutanix environment and help to make the users a little more aware of the commands and the networking architecture. Go through the following KB to get a brief idea regarding network troubleshooting in ESXi.KB-1088 Go through the following vSphere Networking Guide to know more about the architecture.vSphere Guide Networking

Let’s say you have a new NX Hyper-converged architecture and want to use Hyper-V as a hypervisor, but now you are confused regarding the initial configuration and what all are required.Questions which are hovering your mind right now !!! What are the requirements to create a Nutanix cluster with Hyper-V? How can I image the nodes with Hyper-V and install AOS? How can I manage my Hyper-V host? How can I create a failover cluster and update Hyper-V settings? How can I create and manage VMs, especially HA VMs? Do we provide a documentation which can help you answer all these queries? Yes, absolutely Give this following documentation a read to easily get started with Hyper-V.KB-2235Want to know about the configuration of Hyper-V in Nutanix in-depth? Hi Would like to check if there is any tool which help in Migration from On premise physical workload directly to Nutanix Xi in AWS. Let me know if it is technically feasible to do this. On Premises server → Nutanix Xi in AWS (P-V Migration)
I cant seem to find any info in the manual on how to manage consistency groups assigned to entities?
Can I get official documents / links from nutanix that PCI DSS is compliance with.
Configuring data protection and disaster recovery solution in your Nutanix environment is seamlessly simple and interesting. What if you have configured a remote site and have configured all the settings but still you are not sure regarding the configuration. Have you configured the vstore mapping correctly? Have you configured the network mapping correctly? Is there a check which can help me verify all the remote site configuration? Nutanix Cluster Check provides a check which helps you to verify the mapping configuration of a remote site. Give the following Knowledgebase article a read to know more about the check. KB-3335 Give the following documentation a read regarding best practises of DATA PROTECTION AND DISASTER RECOVERY to understand the configuration and limitations in-depth.DATA PROTECTION AND DISASTER RECOVERY
Inquiring if Possible to create Data Protection Async DR of VM that also backing up by Veeam Availability for Nutanix at the same time or different schedule? Or what if I will use Agent Base Veeam Backup and had Data Protection Async DR? Thanks in Advance.
i`m looking for technical document to configure AHV with Actifio sky. Anyone did that or is it compatible? i found that in 2017 Nutanix announced partnership but can`t find technical info. https://www.actifio.com/nutanix-actifio/#sthash.Jotd7mm3.dpbs
Hi All, i want Plan a strategy as below. is this possible using Nutanix and Azure cloud. replication from Onprem to Cloud (Azure- GOV) Another primary site (Azure ) will replicate to Azure cloud Both primary - ( On-Prem and Azure ) will connect to interconnect.
Let's say you're running a huge infrastructure of 10 pretty big SQL VMs and just shifted your infrastructure to Nutanix. You must be bewildered and confused regarding the best practices of SQL in Nutanix and how can you improve the performance. For most SQL server databases, there is nothing that needs to be done in order to successfully run on Nutanix. SQL servers with small DBs are normal and okay but what about larger workloads?Do we have some best practices guide that can help us improve our performance?Yes, we have some general recommendation for running SQL workloads. Try giving the following Knowledgebase articles a read to understand the configuration and recommended settings to improve performance of SQL workloads.KB-3532KB-1833 Want to know the best practices for different SQL workloads. Try giving the following solution documentations a coffee read. Microsoft SQL Server MySQL on Nutanix PostgreSQL HammerDB on SQL You can try giving the following blog a read which s
I am trying to implement SLB, or LACP, rather than A-B. To do this seems to require using either the manage_ovs show_bridges or list port {br0 | bond0} command. Other then the Command_Ref-AOS and AHV_Admin-Guid, where can more information be found ? I am getting a `ERROR kvm.py:488 failed to execute ....` error.
Hi All, One of my customer doing POC Nutanix right now. They create VM with application that use for Exam Online. So they set Public IP on that VM where their student can access for Exam from outside. Suddenly for 2 days the VM active, they found on their router that VM consume almost 500 Mbps internet bandwith usage. They already have that application on non-Nutanix server and not find any issue related. Is there any application or service or something on Nutanix platform consume internet bandwith that we don’t know?
