I'm new to Nutanix, and have a basic question pertaining to keeping drivers and firmware in the server up to date with LCM. We have Dell XC640 servers running VMware ESXi. Am I too assume the LCM is going to provide all the drivers and firmware required for the stack? Documentation states that Dell provides the payload, LCM installs it. I want to validate after updating the hosts with LCM if that's all that I need to do. Does this also update the VMware Ethernet driver? It seems to good to be true that LCM would actually do that as well. Looking for some guidance on this so that I have a solid game plan that I can document moving forward.
Hello! This is my environment: LENOVO Converged HX3710 Appliance - Type 8689 (4 Nodes) AOS 5.10.5 Foundation VM 4.4 ESXi 6.5 U2 I am trying to install nutanix AOS 5.10.5 on this LENOVO HX server without any success so far. Hello, Just wondering if there is anything special about running CVM commands via ansible or other non-interactive session tools? The ansible ping module works just fine but when I start using Nutanix specific commands i get errors telling me that "no such file exists." The commands i'm running are "cluster status" and "ncli rsyslog-config get-status" These obviously work in a regular interactive session but not with ansible. Am i missing a path variable declaration or something? Are the commands only available via interactive sessions(if that is even a thing)? Thanks Update: a coworker who is better at linux than I am said that the profile probably isn't loaded the same so I need to fully source all the commands. So right now I'm doing my best to find them and running them that way. So far so good. /home/nutanix/cluster/bin/cluster status

is it possible to install nutanix MOVE on bare metal server ?
Recently i have upgraded some Firmware for one of the cluster. Firmware upgrade has migrated all VMs to other host and put the host into maintenance mode. i was cross checking the behavior on vcenter and found in tune as per process but after migrating all VMs to other host it reset the uptime for all migrated VMs in vcenter logs/view. but when checked guest os uptime then it was older than vcenter info. (VMs were not rebooted). i am unable to understand that, is it a bug or do i have an issue with Nutanix cluster.
As the title stated, does someone know whether I can run AsynDR on OEM hardware just as Dell, Lenovo... or not? I have a customer wanting to create a AsyncDR session to backup files from a Nutanix cluster to a Nutanix on Dell servers. Is there any limitation so far? Thanks.
Hey guys, After an installation on customer site, I got this message in the Health Check. INFO: Cluster does not satisfy the pre-requisite for enabling deduplication I can't find a description for that message online. Can someone help me with that? Cheers Dennis
We are creating a Nutanix cluster and staging/patching before moving to the production site. We don't have time during staging to stand up the whole infrastructure on the new cluster (vCenter, AD, etc) so we are adding the new hardware to an existing vSphere/vCenter environment. We will need to then move the cluster to the new site, and build the new AD/vCenter servers and use the new hosts to create a new Nutanix cluster. Trying to discern the best way to migrate the cluster from one vCenter/AD to a new vCenter/AD that will be built fresh.
I have a bunch of VM (>300) converted from vmware, and I have to classify them with categories and projects. I tried in powershell with the rest API, but when I GET the VM characteristics and use ConvertTo-Json to build new json file, it does not "expand" embedded arrays like disk_list, nic_list... so cannot send the PUT request correctly Does someone have an example to set/update categories and project for a VM ?
Hi, Is any nutanix node or any hardware component which includes only cheap storage disk to use for backup? Something like storage cabins... We need cheap and huge storage to use as a backup but we shouldn't waste nutanix node's storage. On the other hand, is it possible to connect to third party storage providers like Hitachi, netapp using FC? Thanks in advance.
I have three questions. Please answer. 1.For example, we are using three nodes. There's a resiliency warning for prism because of the high utilization of storage. Then there was a problem in use and one node failed. I wonder what happens in this case. What kind of error is caused? Can we keep the service? 2.What's the maximum storage utilization that Nutanix can continue with its services? 3.What happens when storage utilization is 100%?
Hello evryone, I want to migrate a Linux VM from VMWare ESXI infrastructure to AHV infrastructure. I use Xtract for do this. But when the plan is created afer a certain time the status plan becomes "failed" and I have this error message : "Internal target agent error '[Container="SMI_DS_NUTANIX_JAG_1", Err="exit status 32", Location="/root/workspace/xtract_vm_qcow2_builder_prod/go/src/tgtagent/ahvtargetprovider.go:985"] Container mount failed (error=0x4012)'" Thank you all for your answers Xtract version : 2.0.2 ESXI version : 5.5 AHV version : 20170830.185
What is the hardware requirement for creating single or two node cluster or is there some particular model that support single or two node cluster deployment. I have nodes from Lenovo, model HX3720. Can I deploy single or two node cluster on this hardware? Thanks.
Hello I am attempting to upgrade a Hyper-v 2012 R2 Cluster to 2016. I've completed the necessary Kerberos settings, however I am receiving an error during the pre-upgrade check "Non-Standard Network Settings, cannot proceed with hypervisor upgrade" This makes me sad 😪 the KB number referenced does not exist so I'm a bit of a loss on what to do next. Is there anyway to find out what it thinks the non-standard settings are - or perhaps work out what it think standard should be? TIA Dave
I wanted to clarify if Xtract is just for converting from ESXi / Hyper-V /AWS to AHV or if ESXi to ESXi conversions are suppported with Xtract 2.0 / Move 3.0. We have about 100 VMs we'd like to move from one ESXi cluster to another ESXi cluster and I know we could use VM Converter or cross cluster vMotions (where supported) but wanted to see if the native Nutanix tools are also an option for this type of migration. I had thought it was mainly for migrations to AHV, has that changed?
We have a couple production SQL servers on our ESXi Cluster that need be transitioned to our new Nutanix Cluster. Nutanix Best Practices indicates that the SQL servers should be created new on the Nutanix Cluster instead of doing a VM move from ESXi to AHV. I am aware that Nutanix had Xtract Db for awhile that was supposed to make moving a SQL instance possible but they have since discontinued the product. I must assume they had issues with it. My question is what are the technical implications of using Nutanix Move to "move" the SQL VM from ESXi to AHV? I have used the tool to move a number of non-SQL VMs without any issues. Knowing that the underlying Hyper-visor components are changing and the VirtIO drivers must be installed before the move and then NGT installed after the move, what might the issue be that discourages or prevents a SQL VM cross-hyper-visor move? The SQL version is 2016 Standard with no mirroring or Always on Availability. Just standalone SQL. We hav
Good Day, I am new to Nutanix, so this may be a very simple question to answer. How do you move VMs on hyper-v 2008 to AHV. The AHV version is 20170830.270. I thought of Nutanix Move, but move does seem to support hyper-v 2008. Any guidance would be welcome, thank you.
Hi all, I have a production ESX cluster and an AHV cluster (currently Dev but will be live soon) and I want to move a couple of hosts out of the ESX cluster and then expand the AHV cluster. I want to make sure I have the correct process and do not miss anything but couldn't find this specifically documented anywhere. Has anyone done this already? current plan is - - Cluster checks. - maintenance mode esx host to move all VMs off. - shutdown CVM and allow maintenance mode to complete. - remove VMhost from the prod vmware cluster in vSphere. - remove from Nutanix cluster using the option in Prism. - wait for Nutanix to remove the node. - Expand the AHV cluster adding the released ESX host. Any comments or advise would be welcome. Thanks.
Hello, I want to migrate vm from vmware vsphere 6.7 to AHV. When i create source and target i find that connections to vcenter and ahv are ok. But, number discovered vm's on vsphere is 0 and "create a migration plan" button is greyed out. What is a problem? xtract 2.0.2. Regards, Mindaugas
I am preparing to migrate several Windows Server VMs from VMware vSphere into Nutanix. Most of the VMs use physical RDM virtual hard disks which are unfortunately unsupported by Xtract. As I understand it, this leaves me with two options for migration: Option 1: Convert RDM to VMDK Steps: Power off VMware VM Convert each RDM virtual HDD to VMDK Power on VMware VM Begin Nutanix Xtract process Schedule and perform Nutanix changeover How to Convert RDM to VMDK - The Ultimate Guide With this option, Nutanix Xtract still automates and handles most of the the migration into the new environment, possibly reducing the chance for issues. However, I would need to plan for two potential downtime windows. Option 2: Import Underlying VMDKs into Nutanix Steps: Power off VMware VM Create Images in Nutanix by uploading each underlying VMDK (from RDM storage) Create a Nutanix VM from each new image Power on Nutanix VM With this option, there is only
Hi everyone, I tried to setup lab for migrade UVM from ESXi 6.5 to AHV 5.10 using Xtract VM. After data seeding completed I select to cutover VM. However, migration was failed with error "Failed to create VM snapshot 'XTRACT-VMSnap-31'. Error: Snapshot hierarchy is too deep.." So, I've checked in snapshot manager and found many snapshot was create by Xtract tools. Does anyone face this issue before? How did you solve this problem? Thank you.
When migrating vm with xtract migration hangs in step 'Cutover'
hello when reaching the 4th step the wizard keep showing loading for both source and target network without progress.
