Hi,I have a small cluster of 4 nodes. Disk space usage for /home in all CVMs are increasing fast. After some investigation it appears that the /data/logs folder is taking majority of space, more specifically health_server.log file which is taking about 181gb now. 18133488 health_server.log.20201224-1413011144624 sysstats Does the health_server.log file keep collecting indefinitely, there must be a limit to this log file? Thanks.Beg
Hello everybody, i would like to remove a switch from the Network view in Prism Element, which also is no longer configured under Settings => Network Switch. The cluster was moved to different network a couple of months ago. So far I was unable to remove this old network swith from the Network view in Prism Element and it’s also no longer visible using ‘ncli net list-switch’ in CVM command line. There is only the existing switch configured under Settings => Network Switch. We use AOS 5.15.4 LTS currently. If I select ‘Go to Switch details’ when selecting the old visible switch in ‘Network’, I get an error => Switch with id ‘...’ was not found ! Any idea how I can remove such a switch, which is no longer available? Regards,Didi7
Hi All,How to Migrate Clusterd VM (SQL CLUSTER) from 2012 Hyper V Failover cluster to 2019 Failover Cluser?Source Infra:Hyper V2012 with Failover ClusterVM : 2012 VM (SQL Cluster, Shared Disk) Target Infra:NutanixHyper V 2019
Dear All,Can we use 1 G port for Hyper VM Traffic on Nutanix?
UPGRADING SERVER FIRMWARENutanix recommends that you use the Service Pack for ProLiant® (SPP) ISO file for applying firmware updates. Perform this procedure on every host in the cluster, one host at a time. About this taskTo upgrade the firmware on a server, do the following:Procedure If the server is part of a Nutanix cluster, place the server in maintenance mode.Information about placing a server in maintenance mode is available in the host management section of the Acropolis Command-Line Interface (aCLI) documentation. See the Command Reference for the supported AOS version. Turn on the server to the SPP ISO. Connect to the iLO by using the iLO IP address. Log on to the iLO user interface by using the administrator credentials. The default administrator user name is Administrator on all HPE® ProLiant® servers. Passwords for the iLO administrator differ from one server to another, and are available on the service tag on the server. Attach the SPP ISO to the server by usi
I have read the documents and manuals of APC PowerChute Network but it is a scenario that doesn’t apply to mean. Apparently, someone sold to the customer a Vertiv Liebert GXT4 UPS. Liebert’s engineers concluded that the product couldn’t provide a graceful shutdown of the Nutanix cluster, while it could shutdown the ESXi on top.Is there anyone out there who had succeeded in performing a graceful shutdown without APC?
We are planning to add new nodes to existing clusters. Before the extension, proceed with the new Node AOS install (Bare metal image) and then add.At this time, I want to know if there is no problem if the existing cluster AOS and the new AOS are different versions.ex) Existing Cluster AOS 5.10.9 / New Extension Node AOS 5.15.xPlease give me some advice.Thank you.
vCenter 7.0U1c and vSphere Clustering Service VMs on local or shared storage. After test upgrading vCenter from 6.5U3 to 7.0U1c (which worked just fine w 0 issues), every vmware cluster with DRS and/or HA enabled gets 3 new vCLS (very tiny VMs w 2GB storage/.13GB RAM).When NCC is ran it registers 3 WARNs that there are VMs running on the SATADOM’s. I would assume that, even what (little) they do (today), would this wear out Satadom’s or M.2’s?Would this be a concern for G4/G5’s (w Satadoms) and not G6/G7’s (M.2’s)?”While vCLS can be moved to shared storage, wouldn’t they be moved back to local storage during an NX cluster stop?(Like to point out this was done in a LAB environment, not in Production… no bits nor bytes were harmed during the upgrade progress.)
Added 9 nodes(AHV) to existing cluster successfully and when i try to verifyLACP status with command (hostssh "ovs-appctl bond/show br0-up" | egrep "===|lacp_status") it is showing LACP status off.Steps i performed before adding the nodes to existing cluster1.Configured network on all 9 nodes2.Configured LACP on all 9 nodes Please advice.
How many nodes we can deploy at the same time in nutanix ? Is there any limit or shall we just go ahead and deploy all the nodes at the same time ?Same query is related to cluster expansion, can we add multiple nodes at the same time in existing cluster ?Thanks
I’m new to Nutanix so bear with me if this has been asked. Is it possible to simulate a x-over cable between two VM’s? basically I want any traffic leaving a load balancer to be passed via layer 1-2 to a WAF appliance so it can be inspected. The WAF is in transparent mode and won’t have an IP Address. In the past with physical machines i would just cable them inline.
Hi All,Current environment (~40 sites & HO) do not have any 10GbE switches and we are planning 2-node clusters per site. If using 2 x 1GbE Nic for the management like a witness communication, can we connect ESXi nodes using 10gbit ‘direct cable’ to support the workload for all VM traffic, vMotion, vmKernel, and Nutanix and most important, two node disks datastore? It should be not any issue for the Nutanix/VMware level, Switch is on L2.
Can I change IP or VLAN in IPMI after Foundation that will be concern or affect to AHV environment?
I feel it is time to address a seemingly minor question: should you re-image your nodes when re-using them from an existing cluster? To give a better idea of a setup, think of a cluster with eight nodes, for example. You would like to scale down the cluster and re-use 4 of those nodes to form another cluster. You have evicted the nodes, and you could create a new cluster at this stage but let's take a look at the pros and cons of rushing forward.Cluster creation does no wipe the system. All the files on the nodes remain as they are when you trigger cluster creation. That sometimes can mean issues with LCM upgrades or the cluster creation may error out. To resolve those issues you would need to find those files and chances are you would need a Nutanix Support Engineer to deal with that. Some features introduced in software releases are only available if the version is a fresh installation rather than an upgrade.Any networking changes you might need are easy to apply during the foundation
Hi, I’m trying to create a automated NGT install script for my environment: Code:curl --insecure --request POST --url https://x.x.x.x:9440/PrismGateway/services/rest/v2.0/vms/ef064f22-7ac8-4221-96dd-4cc6f2433dfb/manage_vm_guest_tools --header 'authorization: Basic xxxxx' --header 'content-type: application/json' --data '{"operation":"MOUNT","override_guest":true,"uuid":"ef064f22-7ac8-4221-96dd-4cc6f2433dfb"}' Response:{"message":"Hypervisor ahv not supported","detailed_message":null,"error_code":{"code":1101,"help_url":"http://my.nutanix.com"}} AOS: 5.15.1
While expanding cluster out of 4 nodes able to add one and remaining three nodes failed with error “Controller VM disconnected from network”Description:Controller VM is not reachable from Controller VM in the last 3 attempts.
Hi,Is there any ETA for Nutanix Guest Tools for Debian 10? Debian 11 is probably going to be released this summer, so it would be quite nice if NGT supported Debian 10. Or is there a way to “forcefully” install Nutanix Guest Tool on newer systems? Is it possible to build it ourselves to we can distribute it on our thousands of VM’s that is running?
Security PoliciesTraditional data centers use firewalls to implement security checks at the perimeter—the points at which traffic enters and leaves the data center network. Such perimeter firewalls are effective at protecting the network from external threats. However, they offer no protection against threats that originate from within the data center and spread laterally, from one compromised machine to another. The problem is compounded by virtualized workloads changing their network configurations and hosts as they start, stop, and migrate frequently. For example, IP addresses and MAC addresses can change as applications are shut down on one host and started on another. Manual enforcement of security policies through traditional firewalls, which rely on network configurations to inspect traffic, cannot keep up with these frequent changes and are error-prone.Network-centric security policies also require the involvement of network security teams that have intimate knowledge of network
Does anyone facing Storage performance issues on Hyper converged infra for VDI environment.
Hi all,I have a small question. For the pre-installed AHV nodes with CVM, could we able to upgrade only AOS version before creating cluster? Because the AHV version already same version as our desired version, but AOS version is not same. I know the way to re-install AHV and AOS by Foundation VM, but the way takes long time. Therefore I' d like to update for only AOS if we can.In the other hands, we can upgrade AOS from Prism UI so I will able to upgrade AOS after creating a cluster. So this question is just for my reference. My environment is belowAOS : 5.15.2 (want to upgrade to 5.15.5)AHV : 20170830.434
Hi,I would need some guidance on enabling Aide on AHV and CVM and strong password policy for the hardening.I found the guide on this link: Hardening Controller VMIf I enable the AIDE on AHV and CVM. Is there anything need to be done? Additional appliance to deploy?
Hi all,I´m attempting to create one image from a disk stored inside a volume group. While I have succesfully tested image creation for standard disks using acli and api I didn´t find how to repeat the same task for disk stored inside Volume Group. As well documented here and in ther KB articles these sample commands works:ACLIacli image.create image-name container=default-container-nnnn source_url=nfs://127.0.0.1/default-container-nnnn/.acropolis/vmdisk/uuid image_type=kDiskImageAPI with curlcurl -X POST --header 'Content-Type: application/json' --header 'Accept: application/json' -d '{ "annotation": "cloned disk image", "image_type": "DISK_IMAGE", "name": "image-name", "vm_disk_clone_spec": { "disk_address": { "vmdisk_uuid": "UUID" }, "storage_container_uuid": "UUID" }}' 'https://PE-IP-ADDRESS:9440/PrismGateway/services/rest/v2.0/images/'But when I try to use the disk uuid of the disk inside a VG the commands fails both from ACLI than API.Any suggestion/workaround?Tha
We are considering AHV for our environment. I notice that the OEM partner product list https://www.nutanix.com/partners/oem has fixed set of disks. Most of the hardware in the list are capable to be installed with more disks. For example Fujitsu servers are capable of 12 x 3.5 + 4 x 2.5 (on the rear),Can we utilize all disk slots in a configuration like 12 x 4TB NL-SAS + 4 x 1.92TB 2.5” SSD or 4 x 1.6TB NvME ?
Is there anyway I could get all the task or activity of a particular VM?
Hey all -We removed 2 nodes from 1 cluster and want to add them to another. We disconnected from vCenter and then removed them from the cluster using PE. When they were relocated to the new location, the vlan is the same and they could keep their same IP addresses, but the new cluster could not see them. It sounds like the customer had configured Distributed switches on the old cluster. Do I need to undo some of that networking to see the hosts? Would bare metal foundation be a better option and put AHV on the nodes? That is our next route, but I still think there is a problem with the network configured in ESX even for that. Is there any documentation around undoing the vmware networking for bare metal? With factory nodes, I would have just added them to the same vlan and assigned IPs using crashcart and then the cluster should have seen them. Help!
