Hi, I just added a new storage disk onto a VM and copied data onto it then realize we'd rather just expand the current one so I deleted the new disk and when I go to expand the current disk it is showing that I have no more space to use to expand. Where is the space going after I delete disks? Thanks,
Using near sync replication in AOS 5.5 means that normal snapshots on VMs cannot be initiated by external backup tools like comtrade, rubrik This is a bit of a showstopper. If we need an RPO of 15 minutes on AHV, we have to use nearsync - but then we can't backup VMs off the cluster When will Nutanix resolve this rather major downside?
Hi Team, We use SCVMM to manage all our VM's and we are planning to move some machines to the AHV environment..Can you please confirm whether we will be able to do the live migration my VM's from HyperV to AHV?? Regards, V.Pradeep
Is it possible to implement throttling at a per VM level? The thoughts/scenario behind the question: We have had on a couple occasions where we found a VM (different in each occasion) that was running away with storage controller IOPs. Of course the goal is to get the actual issue resolved for the offending VM, but we would like to be able to implement throttling to be able to assure other VMs in that cluster don't suffer when this does occur. Disk I/O has been the scenario so far, but could also see the need to throttle CPU, memory, and/or NIC throughput at some point.
Without a backup solution, am I able to restore a vm on AHV using the built in RF?
Hello community, it is possible Nutanix remote snapshots to a remote site and additional snapshot to a 3rd remote site? Environment: Small ROBO Cluster ROBO Backup Node (1155S) Central Backup Target Small Robo Cluster > Remote Snapshot to ROBO Backup Node (1155S) > Remote Snapshot to Central Backup target.
Is there a way to deactivate an old Protection Domain and move the snapshot data to a new Protection Domain?
Hi Everyone, im just cruious about this scenario, I have 3 server type 2310 with single ssd, So if SSD FAIL on 2 different server at the same time what will happening?
Does anyone know of any official documentation on the best way to perform a migration from Hyper-V 2016 on Nutanix to a new AHV cluster (not an in place migration)? Or any good guides on doing this? It is going from Hyper-V 2016 to AHV but 2012 would be helpful. I have found a few articles but they are either quite old or not very well written. https://vmwaremine.com/2016/04/11/migrate-windows-2012r2-from-hyper-v-to-nutanix-ahv/ https://vmwaremine.com/2016/06/06/migrate-hyper-v-generation-2-vm-to-nutanix-ahv/ http://vcdx56.com/2018/06/migrate-hyper-v-2012r2-vms-to-nutanix-ahv/ Thanks
Hello, I have turned on Windows Dedup for some of my file servers that reside on AHV, however the storage reduction is not reflected on Prism. Any thoughts as to why? I wish I could run the Capacity Dedup from AHV however the last time that I turned it on I received the following alert: Do not replicate protection domain XXXXXXX comprising entities from the storage container that have deduplication enabled to a single node remote site XXXXXXX. (XXX denote omitted field)
How do virtual machines on AHV migrate to vmware?
Caution: Deletion of the remote site is currently not supported from Prism. Contact Nutanix support for further assistance. Not quite sure if I get this ?
Hi All, Hope you are doing well. I have question regarding the storage usage and space reclaimation in VMWare 6.5 with Nutanix clusters. This question is more into VMware instead of Nutanix, thought of checking here. Just to give a overview we have Nutanix nodes and we have got VMWare 6.x installed on the nodes, a single storage pool and multiple containers. I got a RHEL VM migrated from the old environment and it got 4 disks (10GB, 20 GB, 500GB & 5 GB), all the 4 disks are in the same DS and thin provisioned. No deduplication & compression enabled on those. Now when I access the VMware web console and look for the vmdk files by browsing the files in the DS, I can see a different capacity from the actual usage compared at the server level. When I see the same VM via PRISM and I cannot see the 4 disks assigned to it. It shows only 1 disk with some 160 MB used out of 20 GB and none other than that. Could you please help me to understand why its not showing the disks in the P
When I load the SSR portal through the desktop shortcut, or by browsing to locahost:5000 within a second or two the browser chokes and becomes unresponsive. I thought it may be related to the background animation, does anyone experience this also? Is there a way to disable the animation in the SSR portal page? Mant thanks, Daniel

PROBLEM: When doing VM Migration from XenCenter to AHV, the VM gives a boot disk error at the startup in AHV after migration. DESCRIPTION: VM to Migrate: Windows Server 2012 R2 XenCenter Version: XenCenter version 7.1 64-bit Nutanix HyperVisor: AHV I am trying to do VM migration from XenCenter to Nutanix AHV. I am referring this article (https://portal.nutanix.com/#/page/kbs/details?targetId=kA00e000000kAKJCA2) which seems to be the exact case what I am trying to do here. Every step is going smooth, but I am facing error only when the VM is migrated and when I start the VM it will always go into disk check and boot device not found error. See image: This is happening in both of the following case when I am creating a VM in AHV and mounting the disk image of the VM to be migrated: 1) When the DISKs are mounted as SCSI a. Now, when I am mounting the disks as SCSI which is the normal approach, the VM startup goes into the same error and VM will reboot and goe
Hi,I am trying to move a Windows Server 2012 R2 VM from Xenserver to AHV. With reference to this article: AHV | Migrating a Windows VM from XenServer to AHV everything is working great except when I am at the last step. When I turn on the VM in AHV, I am getting a boot device not found error and windows will not boot up.Windows will start with a windows icon throws the error and restarts, then goes into disk repair, reboots and same error and goes into the troubleshooting menu and when I am restart the VM in AHV it again and always goes into the boot disk inaccessible error.I made sure all the Xen components are already uninstalled from the vm and Nutanix VirtIO drivers are also installed. Tried with loading the image as scsi and IDE, but still going into the same error. Also tried booting up in safe mode, tried disk repair, etc. but no luck. Please help if someone has a solution.PS: I am migrating Windows Server 2012 R2 from XenServer to Nutanix AHV.
What options are available within nutanix to speed up replication to a remote site? The best i am able to get on a single stream is about 20MBps (160mbps) with an aggregate speed of about 60MBps (480mbps) spread out over several streams. However, we have a 10gbps link between sites, so i expected to get better throughput.
Hi All, I've just published an article on my blog regarding what I consider the top 5 best practies or tips for successful SQL Server virtualization projects. Thought you might like to check it out: http://longwhiteclouds.com/2017/02/01/best-practices-for-running-sql-server-virtualized/ Kind regards, Michael
Hi everyone, I´m trying to export the VMs from AHV in vmdk and qcow2 formats directly from a CVM. Sometimes I get the errors bellow: qemu-img: NFS Error: NFS: Write failed with NFS3ERR_JUKEBOX(-11) qemu-img: error while writing sector 44426880: Resource temporarily unavailable In other situations Putty just close in the middle of the copy. After several retries, I finally made backup of two big VMs (around 50 gb). The commands that I am using are: qemu-img convert -O vmdk nfs://127.0.0.1/TKWORKSTATION/.acropolis/vmdisk/d9759595-6dee-4138-bcc0-bad7bf8e1075 nfs://127.0.0.1/Backup_VM/TAIPEI.vmdk qemu-img convert -c nfs://127.0.0.1/TKWORKSTATION/.acropolis/vmdisk/d9759595-6dee-4138-bcc0-bad7bf8e1075 -O qcow2 nfs://127.0.0.1/Backup_VM/TAIPEI.qcow2 Nutanix Community lastest version. Thanks in advance!
Hi, Our customer would like to utilize the snapshot feature on Nutanix AHV as backup solution. They would like to know if they could create Application Consistent snapshot. I did some research. 1. In the Web Console Guide which mentioned about Application-Consistent Snapshots "This option is available for ESXi only; it is not supported for Hyper-V or AHV. However, athird-party product could be used to invoke VSS when the hypervisor is Hyper-V or AHV." 2. QEMU should have guest agent and which the VirtIO Driver should have included. So, my question is. Can Nutanix AHV support Application Consistent snapshot. Thabnks
Hey Everyone. So, I am relatively new to the whole Nutanix game. Im curious what everyone is suggestion is for CVM allocation. We had nutanix do our original provisioning, but the provisions the installer set it up with seem a bit excessive. 10 Cores and 32gb ram per CVM, Any thoughts?
Hi, we have the need for nested shares on our fileserver. While this was easy on NetApp Filer it seems impossible with Nutanix AFS, or I am missing something. We are currently on latest GA release AFS 2.0.2. with AOS 5.0.2 on ESXi 6.0U2. Is this on the roadmap or even possible with AFS 2.1? Replacing Fileservers (Windows or NetApp, doesnt matter) could only be done with full feature set. best regards Steffen
I am suffering with exausthives crashing in my Domino server and IBM support said that the possible problem is related to disks. I did an analysis in Prism and there are really trace of problems. The storage bandwith for this VM is much higher than all others. Is there anyone running Lotus Domino sever on Nutanix Cluster? I would like to hear your feedback and feeling about it. I am using Nutanix with vSphere 5.5.
As the most of you probably know, with AOS 5.6, has been introduced the Volume Group with Load Balancing function, well known as VGLB As i know the 5.6 version is in short term support. Now i'm deploying a two Oracle 12c RAC clusters on 2 8000 6-nodes AOS-AHV clusters with AOS 5.5.3.1. It involves using volume group with multiple vdisk, network related configuration, Linux related tuning and so on... Of course, with 5.5.3.1 (so far the latest GA version in long term support), i've not the VGLS choice, every volume group's I/O is managed by a single CVM. By the other side, with AOS 5.6, i could distribute this load on every single CVM and every single node storage on the cluster. Of couse this heavily impact on the resiliency, the performance and the resources distribution. The questions are two and i need some suggestions. 1) could be better to upgrade to 5.6 even if it is in short term support? 2) is it possible to update "on the fly" the volumes's configuration with "vg.upd
