Hi All,

Does anyone know that veeam can directly add prism central(AHV) for backup?

Best answer by AnishWalia20

Yes @Wei Cheng that's correct. Currently, there is no way to do so. I cross-checked with few of my colleagues who are DR experts.

Currently, we point the Veeam to cluster VIP and not PC IP. We cannot use the PC IP address to define the AHV cluster proxy appliance settings. This is the reason when you added the PC IP to Veeam the account and password of the PC will not be authenticated & also for the CVM IP  account and password will not be authenticated too.

BTW, what is the exact reason you want to use PC for backups?

Hey @Wei Cheng . firstly a very happy new year 2021.

So currently Prism Central VM backup using Veeam is not a tested workflow by Nutanix, hence we would be unable to comment on the steps mentioned neither would we be able to confirm the integrity of the backup after the steps mentioned have been followed.

The only tested way we can backup PCVM is using Sync Rep on AHV. More details are in the doc below:
https://portal.nutanix.com/page/documents/details?targetId=Xi-Leap-Admin-Guide:dra-draas-introduction-pc-c.html

I hope this helps. Let me know if I can help in any other way.

Hi @AnishWalia20, happy new year 2021 to you ,too.

Sorry, I didn't explain it correctly enough. I mean, can veeam backup AHV virtual machine through Prism Central?

Because I'm in lab environment, my nutanix is CE version,

I could back up the virtual machine through veeam for AHV before. Later, after I joined prism central, I added the PC IP to veeam again, the account and password of the PC will not be authenticated. then I used CVM IP instead, and the account and password will not be authenticated too. So I asked this question. If there is a PC in the AHV, can veeam not add the PC to backup VM ?

Thank you

Hey @Wei Cheng , So I don’t think that creating and managing AHV VM backups through PC is supported as of now. I also checked this https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/van/userguide/infrastructure_components.html?ver=20

from Veeams official website.

Hi @AnishWalia20

So I can understand that if there is a PC at present, there is no way to use veeam for backup?

Thank you

Hi @AnishWalia20

Suppose I need to use PC feature, such as report or flow, and also need to use veeam to back up some database.

hey @Wei Cheng  I see so you basically want to manage the VM backups via PC for all the different clusters registered on PC as a single point.
