Hello, all. We’ve had our Nutanix cluster up for all of a month, and I just noticed our Prism Central instance is no longer reporting any inefficient VMs in the cluster (whereas just a week or two ago it had started to accumulate a list of VMs it had decided were overprovisioned or bullies). And when I look at a particular VM, on the main properties page it shows “Efficiency - MeasurementDisabled.”Can anyone tell me why this might happen? Thank you.
Hello.IHAC trying to do an image upload to their Prism Central via this call:curl -k -u user:pass -T "utils/isos/Core-11.1.iso" -X PUT --header "Content-Type: application/octet-stream" --header "Accept: application/json" "https://pc-IP:9440/api/nutanix/v3/images/4ae2fa8d-264b-4191-a56f-0ccd49894b9b/file"But the call returns this error:{ "api_version": "3.1", "code": 500, "message_list": [ { "message": "Internal Server Error. Failed to stream image: Oops - Server error", "reason": "INTERNAL_ERROR" } ], "state": "ERROR"}Since the error message is not clear, we are not sure what is wrong with the call, and there’s also no much information in the API Explorer (https://www.nutanix.dev/reference/prism_element/v2/api/images/post-images-createimage/) Does anyone knows how to upload an image to PC via API V3.0? What does this error refer to?Customer is using PC pc2020.09.01 and also 5.17.1Is it possible to set the storage container? because everything goes to SelfStorage co
During a support case, an engineer might inquire about the version of one or more Nutanix products for which the case has been opened. If the version inquiry is done through email, you may need to find the version of a product without live assistance. While most versions can be found from the Prism or the product’s graphical UI, there are some product versions that can be found via the CLI if necessary. For example, Foundation and Calm versions can also be found using the CLI.KB 8926 provides a single resource for finding any version of a Nutanix Product. This KB can be found in the Support Portal.
When you see an alert about one of the NICs being down the first thought is “oh-oh!”. There is more than one NIC in the host and the traffic will switch over to the other interface or the bandwidth is now reduced (when LACP is enabled, for example). If the environment is not running at the brink of its capacity then a loss of one of the network interfaces should not cause an immediate impact. The issue is detected by NCC health check nic_link_down_check which runs every hour and generates the alert if any issues are found. In the majority of cases using networking troubleshooting logic is enough (make sure the interface is physically connected, devices on both ends are configured correctly and are functioning properly). In some cases, however, the alert may be a false positive. If an interface used to be connected or, in some instances, after cluster expansion on a new node. Eliminate the possibility of the alert being true first. Verify physical connectivity of the host to the switch.
HiI have installed 3 Nodes successfully nested on ESXi 6. the cluster and all nodes services are up. Was able to connect to prism and changed the default admin password. unable to login with new password.... prism keeps on showing "server error" If anyone was able to resolved this... pls help
Hello, Is there any way to use variables for hostnames while cloning VMs from template with Prism (Custom script/cloud init)? For instance can I set hostname equal to VM name (prefix name + index)? brg,Serhiy.
While some users might prefer the GUI (Prism Element) to keep tabs on an LCM upgrade, others might prefer the command line interface (CLI) method. Since LCM is a more GUI based product, it was not easy to track the status of an upgrade without skimming through the logs. However, starting in LCM 2.2, a command line utility was introduced to monitor the progress of an LCM upgrade. To use this, run the following command from any CVM that is currently up: lcm_upgrade_statusTo view sample outputs, check what various states mean, or different options that can be used with the above utility, take a look at KB 7914 in the Support Portal
If you ever find yourself in a position of locking root user on an ESXi host, there is an easy way out.Since the CVM communicates to the local host via a dedicated network handled by vSwitchNutanix it is possible to clear the lock for the ESXi host from the CVM. Verify first that the account is locked. Typically, authentication via an SSH session fails while the DCUI accepts the credentials. Log in to a CVM and call for the account lock rest remotely while connecting to the internal IP of the host. For more details on the verification and the process itself, refer to KB-5703 ESXi root password does not work via SSH, but works via DCUI.For an overview of networking vSphere Administration Guide for Acropolis (using HTML 5 Client) AOS 5.18: Networking Components.
I am looking to replace my SSL certificates on my Prism Central and Prism Element deployments with Lets Encrypt wildcard certificates. I can request the wildcard certificates easily enough sudo certbot -d example.com -d *.example.com --manual --preferred-challenges dns-01 --server https://acme-v02.api.letsencrypt.org/directory certonly I get generated three files: privkey = /etc/letsencrypt/live/example.com/privkey.pem chain = /etc/letsencrypt/live/example.com/chain.pem fullchain = /etc/letsencrypt/live/example.com/fullchain.pem Can anyone advise what openssl commands I can use to convert these .pem files to the required format needed for Prism Central/Prism Element? I have attempted multiple commands from https://www.sslsupportdesk.com/openssl-commands/ but I can't seem to find the exact one. I can also grab the intermediate/root certificates from here if I need additional certs. https://letsencrypt.org/certificates/ I'm looking to ultimately find a way to scrip
To reboot an ESXi host, to trigger a PPR for a DIMM for example, when DRS is on and fully automated there a few questions to be answered before putting together a sequence of steps.First of, should we disable the DRS? When a host is taken out of the maintenance mode the DRS will rebalance the load on the host and as such VMs will migrated back onto the host that has just exited maintenance. What if the CVM is not ready? After all, the CVM is the entity the serves storage to the VMs. Will be VMs affected if the CVM is not fully booted or has not exited maintenance mode by the time VMs are returned to the host? Luckily, the VMs will not be imacted in any way as at the time of placing CVM into the maintenance mode the storage traffic is re-routed and is now handled by other CVMs in the cluster.Should we evacuate powered off VMs for a host reboot? The answer depends on the risk tolerance and risk assessment of the issue. Is it likely that the host may experience issues after a reboot? If s
Title is most of the question… I have a 3-node, local-only cluster (no remote / stretch replication or anything). What do I gain from setting up Prism Central? It seems like Prism Element gives me all of the management capabilities I need (running AHV, probably won’t have more than 20-40 VMs).It feels like standing up PC, even in the single-VM / non-redundant version, will just be a waste of RAM and storage on the cluster. Is there some compelling argument for Central that I’m overlooking because I’m a Nutanix noob?

Hi Everyone,I want to ask some questions.I have 1365G6 , and then there will be two 8235G7 and one 8135G7.When all 8000 join 1365, there will be a total of 4 blocks and a total of 8 nodes. If I enable BLOCK FAULT TOLERANCE, how to calculate the available space ? After enable BLOCK FAULT TOLERANCE can I remove the two 8000s and reinstall them as a backup cluster?? Or can it return fault tolerance domain to nodes? Thanks
I want to fetch report results from Prism Central, and thought the Prism v3 API might do that. I get a 404 when I call any of the reports endpoints. Other API calls I have tried work as expected, including for vms, clusters, and others. For example doing a POST to this address:https://myprismcentral:9440/api/nutanix/v3/report_configs/listreturns HTTP 404 and this message:{"message": "The requested URL was not found on the server. If you entered the URL manually please check your spelling and try again. You have requested this URI [/v3/report_configs/list] but did you mean /v3/remote_connections/list or /v3/alerts/list or /v3/containers/list ?"}I would appreciate any advice, please. Thank you very much.
Greetings all-- I’m curious what larger Nutanix (over 20k VMs) are doing when it comes to VM management. Let’s say vCenter/VMM are out of the picture and it’s all a native AHV/PrismCentral environment; however, it’s got clusters scattered all over the country with various VM admins needing access to their own cluster’s VMs (not hosts) while the clusters are all still being managed centrally. Is there a folder/OU type of construct that you can permission out? How about multiple application owners within the same cluster-- can you give app-owner-x access to just their VMs while app-owner-y only sees/accesses their own VMs?Really just learning at this point if that kind of scaled out VM management is capable with large AHV/Prism environments? Thanks for any insights!
Hi, I have a query regarding the snapshot reference numbers in a replication alert I received recently. The error message is 'Replication was skipped for protection domain xxxx-Policy of snapshot (4779634355498612345, 1559835678912345, 75812345) to remote site xxxx-DR. Replication was skipped as a newer Recovery Point was available'. I understand the last number refers to the ID of the snapshot but what do the two longer numbers refer to? Many thanks.
Since Esperanto never really took off English has become the universal language for business, education and IT industry. It does not mean, however, that you must use English in your environment. Prism supports localization to Japanese and Chinese languages. As any feature Prism localization has its limitations:Logical entities that do not have a contextual translation available in localized language are not localized. The AOS generated alerts and events are not localized to the selected locale language. Anyone experience issues with Windows VMs, Server 2016 and 2019 in my case, not respecting a “Guest Shutdown” action if there hasn’t been any console activity for a while? This occurs with a Prism GUI shutdown or an API call to v2/vms/{uuid}/set_power_stateIs there a setting within Windows that is preventing this or is it a Nutanix issue? Thanks.
When a host running production workloads can become inaccessible or fails due to an unplanned event, AHV will restart the VMs on other hosts automatically (similar to ESXi). For tracking purposes, it is important to get a list of VMs that were running on the failed node and restarted across other nodes in the cluster. One way to gather this information is via the Prism web page. Each time there is an HA event, a task is generated in Prism that will give you a list of VMs that were restarted.Another method is to use the command line interface to look at the tasks and match the output UUID with the UUIDs of the VMs in Acropolis.More information about the above two methods can be found in KB 8956.
Whenever I take snapshots from Prism Central it shows under Recovery point but not under Snapshot. Not sure, if both are same Thing. Also, recovery point give an option to “Replicate” , whereas Snapshot give an option to “Restore”….are both same?
Our datacenter experienced a power outage yesterday and when power was restored Nutanix powered up and everything was operational (Yay!). I've been attempting to find the setting that told the nodes to power up after an event like that rather than stay powered off. On desktop systems I know the BIOS has settings for power events like that but cannot find it in the IPMI web interface. Is there somewhere else I should be looking? Thanks.
Previously, adding an OVA image into an AHV cluster was a manual experience, involving un-tarring an OVA file and importing associated VMDK files using AHV’s Image Management. Now, from within Prism Central, you have the ability to natively import and export OVA files. The tasks that can be accomplished with this new feature are listed below:Export a VM as an OVA Upload an OA Deploy an OA as a VM Download an OVA file to your local machine Rename an OVA file Delete an OVA fileAlso to note, there is now a separate OVA dashboard which is used to perform the above tasks (except for the “Export a VM” task, which is located under the VMs Dashboard).More information about this feature and the tasks mentioned above can be found within Ova Management section of the Prism Central Guide located on the Support Portal.
Hi all,I wanted to register Prism Central in my cluster. I need to set the inital password, that I am aware of. My problem is no default password I found works.I tried these:admin/adminadmin/nutanix/4uadmin/Nutanix/4uDoes anyone know what the right default password is for the latest version?Kind regards Christian
