Deployment Success

Demoing CE edition for alternative to ESXI.  Finished Install.  CVM Won’t start.  I check virsh list --all and nothing is in the list. Demoing on a i5, 32 Gb of Ram.  I’ve been combing through the forms and looking for any insight on what the issue could be.   

Hi,I’ve been trying to install Nutanix CE 2.1 (from this post) on a bare metal server bought from OVH (RISE-1-11) with the following specifications:CPU: Intel Xeon-E 2136 - 6c/12t - 3.3 GHz/4.5 GHz RAM: 64 Go ECC 2666 MHz Disks: 2×512 Go SSD NVMe 2×4 To HDD SATA After multiple tries (OVH’s IPMI/KVM feature is pretty bad so I had a very hard time completing the installation process), I finally succeeded to install the ISO on this machine.However, once I boot in AHV, I try to ping the CVM but get a Destination Host Unreachable error. After checking with virsh list --all I found out that the CVM was in a shut off state. I tried to start it with virsh start <CVM_NAME> but got the following errors from

Hi, I am considering Nutanix for our use-case. We have a HPe DL385 server with 2 L40S GPUs. I understand that Nutanix is supported by NVidia, which is an important plus. However, I am trying to install Nutanix on our server, and now see it requires 3 *physical* drives to operate. One for the Hypervisor, one for CVM and at least one for Data.  As we only have 2 (RAID 1) NVME, and 1 Data drive, we cannot proceed installation. I am not looking forward to sacrifice an entire Data drive (3TB) to a CVM / Hypervisor of only 200 GB. However, the installation does not seem to understand partitions in a drive.  Can you confirm that the Nutanix installation requires 2x *physical* drives to work? Or is there still a workaround to have it understand partitions?Thanks!

I have a difficult problem, and have no idea how to fix them. I installed Nuntaix CE on VMWare Workstation 17 Player, however when I enabled the CVM, there were two errors as below, please help me, if you have some methods to fix. Thank you very much 

Hi,I am checking out Nutanix as a hypervisor. I understand however from our technical supplier that Nutanix will not be able to scale a GPU server using a storage server. Namely, I have a GPU server with some limited storage, which I would like to extend with a storage server(s). These would then be linked through a dedicated switch to the GPU server.He tells me that Nutanix is not good for that, and that we would have to go with VMWare. I understand that this has to do with hyperconverged infrastructure (HCI). However, I cannot imagine that Nutanix does not have a solution for such use-case. My question therefore is: can a GPU server be extended with a storage server using Nutanix?Thanks!

Does anyone have any documentation on the upgrade steps for nutanix firmware with LCM? I want to perform a firmware upgrade on my Nutanix cluster.

Good evening Nutanix’ers, After I configured an active-active bundle on my virtual switch in PE, and modifying my upstream switch with LACP, all seemed well. However, I noticed that the hypervisor rolling reboot never finished, and its been stuck at 90% for ~3 hours. When viewing incomplete tasks in ecli, I noticed that the virtual switch update and hypervisor rolling restore are both stuck at “kRunning.” Screenshot I am thinking about killing the rolling restart task, however doing so warns me that “Using this command can cause database corruption and complete system failure, if used improperly.” I admit that I may have not fully appreciated a step about maintenance mode when following this kb

I understand that the Witness service is now integrated with Prism Central in version 2024.1. Given this, if we still want to set up one Prism Central in Site A or Site B (within a Nutanix environment) while placing the Witness VM in a third site (Site C, which only has a VMware environment), is this setup possible?Thanks in advance!

Hi Nutanix Peeps, I am new in HCI technology and would like to seek your insights on how to configure native VLAN in the Nutanix Environment. The plan was to remove the default VLAN (Data Traffic) to all Cisco access switches therefore removing it will also require to configure new native VLAN in the trunk link between the switches and Nutanix Hosts. Any help would be pretty much appreciated. Thank you so much!

Hello,I am a newbie with Nutanix. Recently, at work, we acquired an NX-1065-G5 with 3 nodes.We currently have Nutanix Community Edition (CE) installed on an HP workstation with a 3-node cluster. We would like to migrate to the newly acquired NX-1065-G5. What would be the best way to approach this migration, and how does the Nutanix CE installation differ between the HP workstation and the NX-1065-G5? 

Hi experts,I'm currently facing an issue with one of the nodes in my cluster. Recently, I noticed that a node was marked as "detached from the metadata store" in Prism, and one of its disks is also listed as detached. Prism shows the disk as "Ready to be added," but I'm unsure if the disk is healthy or needs replacement.When attempting to SSH into the affected CVM to verify the disk's status, I found that I'm unable to access the CVM via SSH, although I can still ping it. The other CVMs in the cluster are responding normally. I tried SSHing into the problematic CVM from another CVM in the cluster, but I received a message saying it's unable to connect.The cluster is running on an ESXi hypervisor. I also attempted to open the CVM from the Vcenter console, but nothing is displayed, the CVM doesn’t respond.Has anyone experienced a similar issue or has any advice on troubleshooting this problem? Your guidance would be greatly appreciated.Thank you!

Is there a centralized document that discusses where logs should be for specific  processes through the cluster or is it broken down into each applications documentation?i.e. - I’m installing Prism Central and I want to watch the logging progress for the process that is running.One way I learn is to watch logs and see what the system is doing to try and understand flows but I can’t seem to figure out where exactly to look.Thanks  

Hi TeamI am trying to create a VM in a specified container by using Prism Central V3 API. I am passing the container details in the storage_config → storage_container_reference of the payload. But what i observed that the VM is always getting created in the SelfServiceContainer.I am using Nutanix Community Edition.AOS : 6.5.2 LTSPrism Central : pc.2022.6.0.11Can you please let me know why new VMs are not being created in the specified storage container and instead end up in the SelfService Container despite passing the correct container UUID in the VM creation API payload? ThanksAkash

Hello,I’m somewhat new to Nutanix and have a lot to learn obviously.  I think this is my first post/question.We have an old cluster running a single VM for Prism Central that used to work for a 3 node cluster.  I cant recall when it stopped working.  The cluster is fine, the nodes are fine, Prism portal on each node runs fine.My thought… Q1) Does the Prism Central web service require credentials to start properly (see orange highlight below)?  Maybe I somehow need to reset the nutanix or root passwords that the HTTP service is trying to use/connect?Q2) Any other tips to try to help get PC working again?Q3) Can I simply de-register the PC from the cluster, then try to redeploy a new one or over top of the existing one?  Would that process have an impact on the VMs currently running in the cluster? Prism Central Status from PE = Disconnected Warning : PE-PC Connection Failure Nutanix v5.17.3 NCC v4

I am doing 4 node AHV cluster decommission. I did all the steps and finally gave cluster destroy and ensure it was destroyed completely. I want to do a factory reset of all the nodes where the hypervisor /CVM configurations like hostname, IP etc will be wiped out. Please let me know the procedure for this. Thanks.

Hello, we are currently evaluating Nutanix as an alternative to esxi. To get some hands on experience with the product we wanted to install it on one of our lab servers. However, I was not able to start Nutanix after the installation. For Installation, I followed the following Youtube tutrial as well as the installation procedure mentioned on the Nutanix documentation.  I keep always stuck on the step where the cluster needs to be started. After installing and booting into AOS, I first run the command `cluster --cluster_function_list="one_node_cluster" --svm_ips= (CVM IP) create` in order to create a single node cluster as mentioned in the video. I am trying to upgrade an old Nutanix cluster managed by Prism Central.  We have done the LCM upgrade and NCC upgrade, however when moving to PC it is failing the Preupgrade checks with the error ‘failed to untar /home/nutanix/software_downloads/prism_central/pc.2022.6.0.10 with ret 2 out err tar:/home/nutanix/software_uncompressed/nos/pc2022.6.0.10: Cannot open:No such file or directory’I can see the files get extracted into the software_uncompressed/nos/2022.6.0.10 folder but they are then getting automatuically deleted which leads me to think something is failing a hash check somewhere.  The same happens with 2022.6.0.11.  Any ideas on how I can resolve this to enable me to upgrade PC?

I recently built a Nutanix CE 3-node cluster on ESXi. The cluster’s up and I want to add a 4th identical node so I can replace node 1 (I have another thread on the disk skew issue I’m seeing there), but the precheck cassandra_ssd_size_check fails when preparing to add the new node (SSD tier on nodes [u'xx.xx.xx.xx'] is not sized to accomodate expected metadata growth on cluster).I wonder if this is a bug because the same NCC Health Check (cassandra_ssd_size_check) runs every hour on the cluster without any problems, and the new node is identical in its disk sizes to the existing nodes.Is there a log somewhere that would tell me what it checked and how/why it failed?Is there a way to verify which disk was assigned to Data and which to CVM boot during install? All of the commands I can thus far locate just tell me info on the virtual disks.

Currently, i see that prism java client and other java libraries with version of 4.0.1-beta-1 are dependent on spring-boot (2.5.14). Since it includes many vulnerabilities, is there a version with the latest springboot version or version above 3.0? Thanks
